TYPE: COMPETITION WINNING PROPOSAL TEAM: TOMMASO BERNABÓ SILORATA LOCATION: PARIS, FRANCE FLOOR AREA: 76.000 M² DATE SUBMISSION: DECEMBER 2015

Although Paris is one of the biggest and fast-changing metropolises of the world, the Parisian skyline appears rather restricted to regulations that aim to preserve the existing landscape, limiting opportunities for vertical expansion of the city. High-rise buildings are, therefore, prevented from growing in the city’s urban core, which makes any attempt to submit such a proposal quite a challenging issue. Skyframe responds to the above challenge by integrating an “absent shape” into the Parisian skyline. The building is conforming to a regular shape inside which a more complex negative shape is growing that acts as a landmark for the city. A reversion of the commonly found relationship between exterior and interior space is here introduced. PERSONAL WORK Skyframe

The design of the Bavarian history museum by X+UN Architecture takes into account the impact of the most important landmarks surrounding the site. Located in Regensburg, it is placed on the bank of the Donau River, which acts as a visual promenade that makes the building visible from a long distance and channels an important flow of people into the site. The shape of the museum is generated from a series of stripes parallel to the river. The design of the building with the differentiated stripes series makes reference to the pass of different generations and phases during the decades and how their superposition add richness and complexity to the process of history. THE ISLAND PARIS CHAMPAGNE BAR

TYPE: COMPETITION TEAM: TOMMASO BERNABÓ SILORATA SARA SANCHEZ LOCATION: PARIS, FRANCE FLOOR AREA: 350 M² DATE SUBMISSION: JULY 2014 Paris is one of the most visited city of the world, it receives about 27 million visitors per year. The site area is a very dynamic place full of tourists and people from everywhere. It is a location not really lived by its inhabitants, it is more a “non lieu”,as Marc Augè defined this kind of locations. This makes it not a very peaceful place where people might enjoy the beauty of the river Seine and the poetry of Paris atmosphere, so it is like there is the lack of a spot where people can rest one moment and enjoy the marvellous surroundings. Starting from this purpose, we thought about an organic architecture which can be perceived more like a natural landscape than an artificial contemporary building. Its conformation is conceived to be used in different ways and to generate different interactions between its visitors. The exterior space is no more only horizontal, it is a juxtaposition of layers which creates many different ways of experiencing the bar. Wood is surely the best material to produce the sensation of being in a natural context, like if they are in a forest on the river. The Island is a way of taking away our lives from stress and chaos and to really appreciate the beauty of one of the most enchanted city of the world. And what is the best way to experience this moment if not with a fresh sparkling champagne taste in the mouth? PERSONAL WORK The Island

The Supply Change is a new way of re-thinking the industrial fabrics in order to find viable social, managerial and creative solutions in according to the typological character of the site and the existing spaces. The supply change is a melting pot between the production world and cultural world. the old insustrial site becomes a flexible and dynamic place. the labs (The Factory) represent the production phase and the supply change is the headquarter (The Bend) which promote cultural events (The Stage) for the community over the years. TYPE: COMPETITION URBAN PROJECT TEAM: TOMMASO BERNABÓ SILORATA ALEJANDRO GONZÁLEZ PALACIOS JORGE SANTACRUZ BONILLA CLAUDIA VALDES LOCATION: DON BENITO, SPAIN DATE SUBMISSION: JUILLET 2013

The project aims to revitalize a very important void in the city center fullfilling it with different activities and a housing system. The East-West directionality, follows an irregular path of succession of urban spaces that converge on the site of the project, its geometry has a variable character conditioned by the geometry of the traces of the streets and ordered convergence spaces. The North-South directionality follows a route perfectly regular, oriented to better functionality, which will serve as the basis for a flexible housing. TYPE: COMPETITION MARKET TEAM: TOMMASO BERNABÓ SILORATA LOCATION: CASABLANCA, MAROC FLOOR AREA: 500 M² DATE SUBMISSION: NOVEMBER 2012

The project aims to revitalize the area creating a new public space open to the people, a space which invites the visitors to enter and at the same time gives them a cover from the sun and the rain. The market is set up on 3 different levels joined by a central space which captures the sunlight and which serves as a connnecting space for the various activities. These 3 levels are reached by a walk starting at the ground level ending up in the cafè. This walk is a way to explore the market and, turning around the central space, partecipate on the whole activity of the market.

TYPE: PROJECT OFFICE: KILO ARCHITECTURE ROLE: PROJECT ARCHITECT LOCATION: LAAYOUNE, MOROCCO FLOOR AREA: 24.000 M² DATE SUBMISSION: IN PROGRESS

Starting 2016, a Science and Technology Park will be built in the deserted area of Foum El Oued, Eastern Morocco. Having won the competition launched by Phosboucraa in 2015, the architectural firm OUALALOU+CHOI will start construction works of the High School of Excellence, one of the many buildings that will rise in this part of the African desert. This project will grow on an extraordinary natural site, placed in between the sea, two oued (dry rivers, occasionally invaded by torrential rains), and desert dunes. This area lacks from strong architectural influences and consequently does not have a strong identity, reason why natural events such as radiance, winds, temperatures, as well as sand banks and floods risks are the guidelines of the project.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY RABAT TYPE: COMPETITION OFFICE: OUALALOU+CHOI ROLE: PROJECT ARCHITECT LOCATION: RABAT, MOROCCO FLOOR AREA: 17.500 M² DATE SUBMISSION: 2015

The National Museum of Archaeology and Earth Sciences sits astride two fields of knowledge, and the architectural and curatorial ambitions of this project unite these different disciplines. The museum unfolds through a series of discoveries, from the gardens, to the patios, and through the succession of exhibitions. The volume of the permanent exhibition galleries are lifted from the ground and organized into a continuous ring around the exterior of the building, shadowed by an inner ring housing educational and support spaces directly related to the exhibitions. The public core of the museum, located at the heart of the building, is thus made both visually and publicly accessible from the surrounding public park. As our position changes, so too does our perspective–and with it our perceptions and preconceptions. PROFESSIONAL WORK National museum of Archeology

AFRICA HOUSE TYPE: PROJECT OFFICE: OUALALOU+CHOI ROLE: PROJECT ARCHITECT LOCATION: BEZANNES, FRANCE FLOOR AREA: 152 M² DATE SUBMISSION: 2015

The “Africa House” is one of five buildings in “The Houses of the Five Continents” project, an experimental residential project sited in northern France. The house is a prototype commissioned by a developer who is searching for new models of residential construction. This project continues the office’s explorations of new constructive methods for building in earth. Houses have been built in earth for millennia; the challenge arises from adapting this primitive material to industrialized methods and adapting it to modern modes of living. Similar to the way in which adobe blocks were placed within prefabricated industrial panels for the World Expo 2015 Pavilion of Morocco, this project ventures to adapt adobe construction and a sense of environmental responsibility to mass-produced residential architecture in France. This project is a search for a singular identity using multiple entities. The programmatic objective was to assemble all the various departments of the company, previously housed in separate buildings scattered throughout the city, into one building. In this tower, each department is housed individual volumes which are then stacked to create a vertical community. The different departments are physically and visually linked by the presence of a central atrium which runs through the core of the building. The projects aims to forge an architectural unity and create an urban landmark while still maintaining a strong sense of identity and independence for each department.
