ARCHITECTURE DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Nowadays Berlin is facing a crucial situation in which the gentrification effect is wiping out the underground scene, which characterizes the city since the fall of the Wall in 1989. The lack of these free spaces in the city center is pushing the underground scene to the periphery. Facing the question of whether designing a sport center for the developers or offering a space for the Berlin underground scene. This dilemma became in the leitidee of the project, designing a building which hosts both of them. The formal “fancy” sport center and the informal one are independent and interdependent at the same time. Indeed, the aim of the project is to try to generate unexpected interactions. The building is placed on a site between the central district Mitte, the soviet development of Friedrichshain and the river Spree. Although it is in a very central position, the passage of pedestrians on the area is very limited. However, the proximity with the Jannowitzbrücke station is seen as an opportunity to bring public life in the area, creating a new urban room for Berlin.

Cultural Center in Valldoreix ETSAV | TAP II

Project year 2014 Site Valldoreix Barcelona Spain Professors Berta Bardi Emiliano López Antoni Pérez Tutor Antoni Pérez Team Tomás Rosselló Barros

Space for public activities and diverse program is planned for this quiet residential neighborhood. The particular characteristics of the plot, located above the tunnel of the Vallvidriera highway, does not permit the construction of an unique building. The design should be disperse and ready to grow along the time. Under the parameters of the theory of Open Form, announced by the architect and theoric Oskar Hansen, interdependent modules are created. Open Form was interested in developing strategies of indeterminacy, flexibility and collective participation, always exploring the possibility of continuous transformation. Starting from this principle, the organic shape defines the spaces of the building. Due to its fractal geometry the expanding symmetry creates similar boxes at increasingly small scales. When it is necessary, the different volumes establish a connection with each other. Yards with gardens are generated, becoming an important part of the outdoor relationships.

One way of inhabiting our residential buildings is to provide them with a number of equipped and autonomous rooms that allow the house to grow temporarily according to the needs of their tenants. The proposal of the Satellite Rooms points in that direction. The main idea is to provide the building with a sufficient number of rooms separated from the dwellings that allow the house to be extended temporarily to meet the needs of the community and, once satisfied, make them available again to the tenants of the block. In line with this approach this Social Housing project include 30 dwellings - of 40 square meters - for single people or couples of all ages, and 15 additional rooms - of 20 square meters - are situated and can be incorporated to the homes to provide them with additional space. These spaces can be used independently as a Satellite Room. The day spaces of the apartments faces the central coutyard, hence generating activity in its surrounding facades. Making it the center of the social meeting of its inhabitants, always in contact with the plaza.

The museum is only one floor of galeries. As opposed to most museums the Nowhere Art Gallery remains as a subtle staple. In a structure gauge of 25x25x10 meters the art gallery is located, creating interior and outdoor spaces for the center. The Maximum structural unit is 4x4 meters. The repetition of elements is crucial to build this Modular Space with a prefabricated system, which is fast and versatile to build. The orientation is according the natural light. All of the galleries and the main circulation are solely iluminated by sunlight passing through the louvers. That mean tot take special care about an important risk: the direct sunlight is harmful for the art pieces. The objective was to provide a difussion of light within the exhibitio walls, without losing the sense of the external climatic conditions.

Project year 2016 Site Sala i Badrinas Factory Terrassa Spain Professors Isabel Castiñera Enric Massip Tutors Xavier Matilla Manuel Sanchez-Villanueva Roger-Joan Sauquet Team Tomás Rosselló Barros

34 ARCHITECTURE DESIGN PORTFOLIO

The industrial past of Terrassa has left an inheritance of large factories that generate a multitude of empty spaces, this fact causes a sponge effect in the Segle XX neighborhood. These areas have to be recovered and integrated in the city to generate urban continuities. Making a city involves the fact of building from the public space. The project proposes to establish continuities with the existing system as in the historical centers of European cities, the aim of the intervention is to create looped itineraries that allow citizens to walk from one space to another and discover the different urban spaces and their qualities. The factory Sala i Badrinas is a textile industrial area currently in disuse. Three main streets are created, which are adapted to the urban scene. The proposal revolves around a large central hybrid space in connection with a public school, commercial offices and different housing programs such as multifamily dwellings, ateliers and nursing hoses.
