Valley of Toledo Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite End Of An Era There’s no doubt about it - Jon Parton is a legend. It would have been impossible to know, when he joined the Masons in 1964 that he’d have such a positive impact on our fraternity. Nevertheless, he clearly has had more impact on Freemasonry in general, and the Valley of Toledo in particular than almost anyone else. For 41 years, Brother Parton has been the Stage Manager for the Valley of Toledo. The Valley has gone through a great deal of transition throughout those years, from multiple-weekend venues to one-day classes; from stage performances to theater-in-theround, and even conducting degrees in numerous multiple and varied locations. Nevertheless, Brother Jon Parton was always there to make every event a success. The honor of Meritorious Service Award was conferred on him several years ago to thank him for his many years of dedicated service, but even that great honor seems hardly enough. Now, he has announced his retirement as Stage Manager for the Valley of Toledo. How can we thank a legend for being such a steady force for all these years? The measure of our gratitude can hardly compete with all he’s given us. Please, please be sure to thank Jon the next time you see him. He’s not looking for applause, and he’ll be the first to say he’s just been doing his job. We all know however, that the rest of us couldn’t have done ours, without his steady and determined devotion to the Craft. Now, here comes the hard part. We need to replace the legend! Clearly Jon will never be replaced, and his efforts have left an indelible positive impact on us all. His shoes will be very big ones to fill. Nevertheless, after all these years he has earned his retirement, and it’s time for us to find someone else. Fortunately, Jon has agreed to work with his replacement, and to help our new Stage Manager in any way possible to make the transition a smooth one. As a result, we anticipate that our new icon, with the assistance and input of our retiring one, will insure the success of the Valley of Toledo for many years to come as well. If you have interest in this position, or know of someone who would be a great person to consider for this important position please call the Valley office. Interviews will be scheduled, and we hope to have the role filled in the near future. Jon was Stage Manager when most of today’s members of the Valley joined. In that sense, it is the end of an era. With his help however, we anticipate the beginning of a new era, and the birth of a new legend. Please help us to determine who that new legend will be.
