Todd Genger ‐ Obama Urged to Pass Transportation Bill to Avoid Economic Fallout

President Barack Obama has urged the lawmakers of the House of Representatives to pass Transportation Bill to continue the pace of our economic recovery, which may otherwise be derailed again by ideological differences between House Democrats and Republicans, according to Todd Genger, an independent financial services consultant in New York.

The U.S. Senate has already passed a version of the Transportation Bill, but the same Bill is getting delayed while moving through the House of Representatives. “It is another example of politics getting in the way of progress,” says Todd Genger.

President Obama said after a few days, funding will stop for transportation projects, so construction sites would have no work and workers will have to return to their homes. Obama said Congressional leaders should forget about their party loyalties and join together in a bipartisan vote in the support of the bill to encourage further economic growth in the country.

Obama said the Transportation Bill got the support of 52 Democrats and 22 Republicans in the Senate. “Now, it is turn for lawmakers in the House of Representatives to put aside partisan posturing and to consider the interests of the American public,” says Todd Genger.

The previous transportation law expired in September 2009. Thereafter, funding for road, bridge and transit projects and gas tax collections have been continued by a series of temporary extensions of the bill.

Since a version of the bill has already been cleared by the United States Senate and will be interesting to see what steps the House of Representative will take on the bill after the bold statement by President Obama. If a Transportation Bill is not passed, it could lead to further deterioration of our aging infrastructure. “We can only hope that we will not have to wait for a bridge to collapse or a train accident to awaken our representatives to the importance of investing in highways and railways,” explains Todd Genger.
