All About Business 7 Relationship Marketing Strategies to Turn More Prospects Into Clients! By Katrina Sawa

A

s a business owner, you probably know that what matters most to your bottom line is the relationships you have with your customers.

The goal then should be to find more ideal prospects to build relationships with and continue to keep in touch with them, right? If you are NOT continuing to nurture those relationships or actively seeking new ones all the time then YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A LOT OF SALES! The following are 7 Crucial Relationship Marketing Strategies to Turn More Prospects into Clients: Understand your UNIQUE TARGET MARKET – Narrow it down as much as possible because you can’t afford to market to everyone with your time or money. GET PERSONAL and BE MEMORABLE - Find out what really matters to your target prospects, get personal with them and share a lot about yourself too, that’s how to build real trust and connect. NETWORK EFFECTIVELY to build your list – Hopefully you are doing a lot of networking because networking is the least expensive, most effective form of marketing for the small business owner; it’s the fastest way to build new relationships that can make a difference. Implement CONSISTENT FOLLOW UP – This is where the system usually fails; it’s where most small business owners get too busy IN the business that you forget or put off your follow up. BUT THIS IS THE ONE THING YOU COULD BE DOING THAT COULD DOUBLE YOUR SALES! GIVE FIRST, SHARE ALWAYS – You’re probably wondering how this fits in to getting more business? Well, when you give more referrals, advice and you share your expert opinions with people when you’re out networking and you do it in a giving way, I believe the universe will give you business back. Utilize an attention-getting CALL TO ACTION – When you are marketing your business or when you are building relationships – which go hand in hand – you can’t forget to slip in a trial close or ask for the sale or appointment.

Finally…. AUTOMATE AND DELEGATE – I realize it’s hard to pay someone else to do stuff you are capable of doing yourself, especially when money is tight, but if you don’t realize that you have to stop doing so much yourself, you may never reach your big goals. © Copyright 2011 K. All About Food Nancy’s Sassy Salsa By Nancy Newcomer No secret, I’m a big fan of farmer’s markets. I especially enjoy going this time of year because of the tomatoes. Yes, I LOVE these babies that taste sweeter than anything you can buy in the “regular” grocery store. Of course, many of you grow your own and quite frankly, I’m jealous. Unfortunately, I did not inherit my dad’s green thumb, so instead, you’ll find me trolling the aisles of the market coveting the romas, beefsteaks, cherries & heirlooms. When I get my hands on these beauties, I LOVE to make salsa. You can’t beat FRESH salsa with super sweet tomatoes. My recipe’s got a little “kick” just enough to spice up your meal. Perfect with chips, tacos, fish, grilled chicken, tri-tip and more. Not only does it taste fabulous, it adds gorgeous color to any dinner table. Viva La Sassy Salsa! Nancy’s Sassy Salsa 6 medium to large tomatoes diced ( I LOVE the heirloom variety) 1 jalapeno pepper minced & seeded 2-3 garlic cloves minced ½ cup red onion finely chopped ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro ½ tsp cumin 1 tsp sea salt ¼ tsp fresh ground pepper 2 TB fresh squeezed lime juice 1 28 oz can diced tomatoes~ I like to add the canned tomatoes along with the fresh ~something about the acid from the canned variety helps blend the spicy flavors. You may opt NOT to do this and add 2 more fresh tomatoes. I’ve tried it both ways (for YEARS) and I still like adding the canned. Combine all ingredients and let sit for at least one hour before serving. Even BETTER if you make the night before so the flavors and spices can blend. Longtime Santa Barbara radio personality, Nancy Newcomer is a food blogger and an accomplished cook & creator of simple, healthy meals made from fresh, organic ingredients. With an emphasis on gluten free fare and local farmer’s market bounty, her Facebook food blog, “Back to the Kitchen: Healthy Living with Real Food” is followed by people in over 22 countries. Check out Nancy’s new website, www.NancyNewcomer.com where she shares recipes & shopping tips and continues to advocate cooking “real food “ recipes and having sit down family dinners.

All About Fashion Style Fit Solution – Must Have’s For Fall! By Lisa Cole

I

f you asked most women what is there favorite season of the year for shopping, and an astounding number of them would tell you the fall. It’s so fun! If you’re looking to step out of the box, or just spice up your existing work and leisure wardrobe, we have the styles and solutions that will make a woman feel confident when she gets dressed in the morning. The key word this season is “reinvent”. What does that mean? Try a new body type when it comes to pants or skirts. Have you considered a color statement that can be carried through your wardrobe? By simply adding a few new tops or camisoles, your entire wardrobe can become fresh and alive. This saves time and if your budget conscious a perfect way to trim the spending. I believe women should never say “I can’t wear that”. We also incorporated the “fit” solution for you as well. Certainly, not every trend is going to be for you, but as the mantra goes if you don’t try it, you may never know. Here are some top picks to consider in your fall shopping season: Statement Skirts are a woman’s best friend when it comes to a professional wardrobe. Try something new and add details to your ensemble. A few buttons, a ruffle or bows are going to be the statement of the season. (Nordstrom.com) Loose inches in a minute! Yes, the waist cincher can make trend dressing a breeze. Eliminates the muffin and rolls, and were not talking about breakfast. (TC Fine Intimates)

The Slim Pant is becoming a style solution for every woman from petite to plus. Complete the look with a vintage inspired top or crop jacket. The companion to slim fit pants and tricky fabrics that show everything! Problem solved. This can also double as a sheer legging in black and help to lift your rear. This is important for most women complain that they looked smashed in slim fit apparel. Hosiery is amazing this season. It can change your entire wardrobe by adding a few textured tights and leggings to your existing apparel. Fit Tip: Hosiery was the original shapewear back in the day. Look shapely, trendy and totally dressed from head to toe. The Draped Cardigan – If you want to make fall your best dressed ever, make the cardigan that is loose, soft and flowing your first choice for a statement item. This trend began last year and now the designs are awe inspiring. Asymmetrical

This trend began last year and now the designs are awe inspiring. Asymmetrical shapes are also sizzling hot. Animal Love! Leopard is rocking the runway in every aspect this season. Shoes, handbags, jackets etc. This is an easy way to style your wardrobe with your existing black and brown color palate. (Nordstrom.com) Make this season work for you, your wardrobe and your lifestyle by selecting key items and trends that make an impact on helping you feel beautiful, confident and ready to seize fall. All About Social Media Your Personal Branding At-a-Glance Checklist: For Conversational Facebook Topics That Inspire Engagement & Interest By Marla Dennis

“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” -Anonymous Personal branding in business today is not a luxury; it's a necessity if you are to hedge the competition and stand out among the sea of entrepreneurs who are marketing without a personal brand. As savvy women business owners today, we are actually delivering a brand; not marketing a business. Why? Your personality and everyday thoughts, feelings, and events create your brand in order to build the know, life and trust factor while using social media. I am referring to your personal page at Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Your personal page is paramount in effective personal branding and marketing. Please do not leave this out of the equation because you may think you are not supposed to “mix business with personal.” Quite the contrary. The fan page is 100% business; but it’s your personal brand that captures the emotional resonance of your relationships online. When we move our offline life to an online presence (virtual world) we aspire to be as authentic and transparent as possible in order to build relationships that eventually convert to clients. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube are the four main social networks your personality must be visible for effective marketing and results. I am encouraging you to raise your standards in how you market so that you are in alignment with the way our NEW economy is requiring us to be and do. In other words, “social reward economy” first and foremost. The name of the game with social media is engagement. We aspire to talk “with” our communities not talk “at” them as we post and inspire interaction. My clients consistently ask what’s the most simple way to begin to raise my standards and how do I inspire engagement? I start with “content is queen” and even

All About SUCCESS Lisa Druxman, Founder and CEO of Stroller Strides, named one of Entrepreneur’s fastest growing franchises 2007—2010 After she had a baby ten years ago, Lisa Druxman was looking for a way to blend her passion for fitness with motherhood. “I decided to create a workout that I could do with my baby,” she recalls. “I didn’t want to miss a moment of his new life but also knew that I needed to take care of myself.” It was one beauty of a brainstorm. The San Diego resident created an exercise routine for new moms and realized that other mothers would benefit from working together to restore their wellbeing. Now she’s the CEO of a business that brings exercise, companionship and support to tens of thousands of moms around the country. In fact, Stroller Strides is one of the fastest-growing franchise businesses in the country. Lisa Druxman and Stroller Strides have been featured numerous times on NBC’s Today Show, CNN, The Montel Williams Show, Access Hollywood and profiled in magazines such as Entrepreneur, Woman’s Day, Good Housekeeping, Self and more. “We give moms the strength they need for motherhood, not just physically but emotionally too,” Druxman says. “Women are looking to get their bodies back on track and connect with other new moms, and we help them do just that.” The women who run the nearly 1,000 Stroller Strides locations share Druxman’s passion for a business that gives top priority to family. “Our franchisees are not just fitness professionals. They are everyone from stay at home moms to teachers to nurses. So many moms are out there looking to have a business that’s supportive of motherhood.” So what’s the secret to her success? t my college graduation in 1987, I was ready to enter grad school and continue my education to receive my PhD in Psychology. Even though it was the “all about me” 1980’s I fell in love and two years later, I was a mother to a beautiful baby girl. I never saw myself as a stay-athome mom; yet here I was so connected to another human that I couldn’t even imagine leaving her for a day! Even though I was content changing diapers and making sure our house was “just so”, a little voice continued whispering; “Your career is waiting and it is a doozy! You are here to make a BIG difference.” Three years later, I was blessed with a baby boy who at 3 was diagnosed with autism. Now making sure my son had every possible advantage along with making sure my daughter never felt slighted from the lack of attention was my focus along with a comfy suburbia lifestyle full of carpools, PTO Presidencies, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and creating “the perfect” home. Then I fell apart. I am the queen of hiding my sadness; but when 50 extra pounds hooked onto my body my glued on smile just wouldn’t stick. I was living my life not only for my family but also through my family. I was the puppet master pulling the strings; however, I couldn’t control myself. Finally with a lot of surrender and a sabbatical to a health institute I re-discovered myself. I released those 50 pounds and as I said goodbye to those pounds a new

vision emerged. Through the years, that quiet voice within never left; she continued to talk to me but now she said; “you had to move through those years of pain so that you can stand strong and help the millions of women who are where you were” I have never had a career. I didn’t know anything about autoresponders, backlinks, or SEO. I used Facebook for chatting with friends. However, I refused to let all that negative talk within my head or from those around me keep me from my vision. I went to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and received my Certification as a Holistic Health Coach in January 2011. I also read everything I could, invested in products, and coaching. I created blogs, websites and programs. Everyday I ask myself: “how can I scare myself today?” Through my website http://www.makingitallfit.com I provide an experience. With each interaction, whether virtual or actual, my mission revolves around each person being pampered and treasured and when they walk away or hit they (x) they feel better than they did before. Recently I participated in a Branding Archetype exercise where I crafted the following leadership statement: I am the role model living the statement “It’s never too late for a fresh start.” When you are ready for your fresh start; call me at 314-780-4968 or Maureen@makingitallfit.com. y name is Michelle James and I am the owner of SeekingSitters South Bay. I want to say thank you for voting for me and allowing me to write this article. I should probably start by telling you what SeekingSitters is and how I got here. SeekingSitters is a babysitting referral service, where we provide easy, safe, and reliable sitters for full-time, part-time, or individual events. At SeekingSitters we do all of the work for you! I personally interview each sitter and check references. We use a third party to back-ground screen all of our sitters, looking at credit history, public records, along with social network pages to gain perspective on all aspects of the sitters. Our sitters are CPR/First Aid Certified, experienced and arrive with activities for kids. We currently serve over 200 families in the South Bay allowing parents to enjoy evenings out or feel secure when leaving for work, knowing their children are well cared for by experienced sitters. I am a mom of two and am picky about who watches my kids! My husband and I started this business because we had no family here when we had children, and

no one to lean on for help. I was tired of always scrambling for sitters, calling around to find someone available, going with one of the teenagers in the neighborhood, who at the end of the day left messes for me to clean, or sitters who put my kids in front of the TV. I wanted more for my kids and I wanted to feel more at ease leaving them at home. I strive to make SeekingSitters just that, better sitters and an easy to use high quality service. We have been open for just over three years now and I have learned a lot along the bumpy journey. I learned very quickly that you have to choose your path and the pace you want to approach that path. Many companies approach goal setting very differently, but it is extremely important to chose a path and set goals that you are capable of achieving. I have chosen a slower but high quality growth plan for our business. Unless you are a non-profit company, money is always one of the goals, but it was not my biggest driver. The number one goal I set for our business and the ultimate driver for me is pleasing each of the families we serve by providing second to none sitters, service, and always keeping children safe and happy over anything. As a small business owner who does not have deep advertising and marketing dollars, I had to look for ways to build the business that did not break my budget. My best marketing tools don’t cost anything. The first marketing tool I found was my service itself! My referrals from our current families we service don’t cost me marketing dollars and are the best compliment I could be paid. If I do what I said I was going to do and deliver the service I said I was going to, then usually the thank you I receive from that family comes in the form of a friend whom they referred. Service is key and my number one tool. The second tool I have is creating a strong babysitter team. My sitters are my front lines and they are in your homes. They need to be great! They are not only representing themselves, they are representing me. Without great sitters, I would not be in business very long. If I deliver the service I committed to, then the referrals usually follow and the business continues to grow. I would like to leave you with a THANK YOU and a quote from a person well known for his customer service, Mr. Bob Farrell, the former owner of over 130 Farrell’s Restaurants around the country. Mr. Farrell’s “Give them the pickle” mantra applies to every type of business that wants to give that extra level of service and keep their customers coming back. He says, “It’s not what you make or sell that is critical, it is how you take care of the people who buy it”. www.seekingsitters.com or call 424-634-1018 (Continued on page 22)

All About Copy Writing Your Strategy For Crafting Compelling Copy Depends on Placement By Lisa Manyon Where is your message going to be seen or heard? This is an important question to consider BEFORE writing a single word. Consider the medium or channel of placement and this will help you create a content strategy to support your overall marketing goals. Will you reach your audience via radio or television broadcasts, viral video marketing, billboards, online marketing via blogs or websites, direct response mailings, email, trade publications, newspaper ads, press releases, social media or some other method? Knowing your delivery method is crucial to deciding the length of copy. Do you need a long sales letter to speak to already qualified leads? Is a short, pithy ad in order? Or, is this a campaign requiring a skillful balance of long and short copy? Perhaps you need social media posts that pack a big punch with just a few words? The bottom line is -- what works in print might not always work in broadcast or online That’s why it’s important to understand your delivery options and educate yourself on what is effective and what is not. If you don’t want to take on this task yourself, the key is finding a crafty copywriter with experience spanning the mediums so your message is carefully tailored to work with the delivery vehicle of choice. While you must cleverly craft copy in accordance to your content strategy plan, you must also realize the importance of creating messages that are a fit for each particular medium. For example - copy you create for your social media status updates probably isn’t completely appropriate for your print ads for various publication. Once you've determined where you'll place your message, you'll also need to educate yourself on what type of copy really works for that particular medium. For example: hard sell tactics (generally never a great idea) as especially ineffective on social media platforms. Take the time to do your (Continued on page 25)

Lori Ketkar Lori.Ketkar@todayswomanpreneur.com Serving the areas of the South Bay and Westside, Los Angeles, California I am Lori Ketkar, President of Help My Tween Succeed. The most amazing aspect about my business is I am able to share my time and energy working with families as a whole! I am a mother of two beautifully amazing young girls and a wife of a husband that supports me even if I don’t see it. It is with his love and patience that I have found myself here as one of the first Area Directors of “Today’s Womanpreneur” magazine. I have been working with children and parents in academics and athletics, guiding each individually to find their successful path since I was in college, 25 years ago. I have found over the years that the success of an individual lies solely on the success of their lifestyle. Simply put, your home-lifestyle success directly affects your business success. What you do in the home is what you do outside the home. With this belief in my heart, I have teamed up with Cathy Alessandra to support her magazine and the women who read her magazine online or in print. Welcome to TW; enjoy the ride.

All About The Office The Perfect Arrangement By Lisa Kanarek The beauty of having a home office is that you can set it up any way you like. Your only constraints are budget and available square footage. Choose one of these four arrangements to make your home office more functional, productive and inviting. •The U-shaped work area, the ideal of all four, allows you to keep everything within reach on three surfaces. If you tend to save too much, however, limit the amount of open surfaces in your office. In addition, get in the habit of putting things away or at least storing them somewhere other than on the floor. •The L-shaped work area offers the important advantage of getting equipment off your desk and onto a secondary surface, without taking up as much room as the U. •With the parallel work area, you place one surface in front of the other and still have two places to work. Your desk could be in front of a credenza or a sideboard. • The fourth arrangement is the V or corner arrangement. If home office space is tight, make use of often-unused corners. You'll have a surface in front of you (ideal for your monitor) and surfaces angled to the left and right. Whichever arrangement you choose, depends primarily on the size of your office, the type of furniture you have, and how much work surface you need. When you set up your home office to fit your work needs, it will be a place you’ll enjoy using. After all, if you don't like your home office, that’s the last place you’ll want to work. Home office expert Lisa Kanarek is the founder of WorkingNaked.com and the author of five books about working from home. Lisa works with entrepreneurs and home-based employees through seminars and individual consultations, to create functional home offices that meet each individual’s working style.
