Six students from Sir Thomas Wharton Community College won through the Doncaster heats of the Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition at Hill House School on Wednesday 18th January 2012. Both teams were “awesome, a credit to themselves and the school”. The winning teams were: Emma Smith, George Brookfield, and Chris Townsend – Year 12 Senior team, who spoke for 10 minutes on `The genius Leonardo Da Vinci – Artist or Scientist?’ Claudia Ridgeway, Nicole Miles, and Emily Hewitt – Year 8 Intermediate team, whose subject was ‘Would your world be a better place without music?’ The teams now go on to compete against Gainsborough High School and Skegness Grammar in the District Finals on Saturday 3 March. Help for Heroes Well done to Jordan Pearce, Jordan Wakelin, Joe Lidster, Scott Bentley, Charlotte Mickley and Olivia Waiton who raised £77 for Help for Heroes selling refreshments at the school Musical Recital Evening on 31 January. They presented the cheque to Tony Eaton from H4H during Assembly. News in brief: Our `Golden Oldies’ Easter Tea Party’ will be held on Thursday 29 March and will be a very special celebration for one of our guests. Our students are working hard to ensure that this is a day that everyone will remember! More news on this next month. Congratulations to our stars – Jamie Smeaton who won a bronze medal in the U14 Tae Kwon Do championships in Germany, and Josh Foltyn who was part of the winning crew in the Doncaster Schools' Rowing Association competition.
