T

he Queen’s Birthday long weekend was a welcome break in what has become an unseasonably strong winter auction season. The break will be short lived however with record numbers of properties listed for auction on the next two weekends. In the Financial Review on Tuesday, Marshall White director John Bongiorno said that the strong results in the first quarter of the year were a driver for many to sell and lock in the capital gains on their house. “A lot more supply has come onto the market. We’ve seen buyers with a greater choice; the pendulum has swung their way and vendors are having to lower their expectations. However, supply typically dries up in July which could reverse the equation in months to come.”

amish Tostevin is no stranger to the City of Boroondara; he and his family lived in the area for many decades – beginning with his entrepreneurial grandmother, who opened a pharmacy in Balwyn North - then surrounded by fruit orchards - in 1949. Other than two final years of secondary education at Geelong College, Hamish was educated locally at Carey Grammar.
