I can’t believe it! I can’t believe that we have another cancer case here. One of the residents of our Estate has recently had a breast cancer operation, and is now at home and feeling quite chipper, but again, has asked me to write another article on this. Since I first went to have a thermal image scan and was so impressed by it that I wrote my first article, I have met three ladies who have succumbed to cancer. One, unfortunately, died recently, but the others have all pulled through. In each case the ladies all said that they had read my article, and then forgotten it – a case of “oh, it won’t happen to me”. Well, it does. The latest victim is not young, so has a bit of a fight on her hands, but she is very positive and determined to get on with her life. Can I reiterate that a visit to Dr. Jacques Lotz at the Health Emporium will tell you if you have a clean bill of health, or if there is something which needs further investigation. For those who are new to the Estate and have not read my first article, Dr. Lotz has a thermal

image camera, which can tell if there is something suspicious by highlighting in red the tissue which is affected. I initially went for a scan, which was clear, but was so impressed that I later went for a full body scan, which showed me that I had an underactive thyroid. The thermal image camera can show up an affected tissue up to three years before it makes itself a nuisance and is, for that reason, more use than a mammogram, which is something which I have a deep dislike for, and have yet to meet any lady who does not dislike it. In fact, my GP doctor says that thermal imaging is surely the way to go. Please ladies, admit that it could happen to you and give Dr. Lotz’s rooms a call on 012 753 3313. March has come and gone which means Autumn is now here. Our golf course is still looking awesome, the only sign of Autumn is that the leaves are now changing colour and some trees have started to lose their leaves. The 2013 Club Championships have been played. Thanks go to Jannes, Hans, Johnathan, Marius and Nicola for putting such a successful event together for us all to enjoy. Amarille, once again, did herself proud by serving us the most tasty Sunday lunch that was enjoyed by all after the prize giving. The weekend went off without a hitch and this year we had a record amount of entries into the ladies Championships. Thanks to all the ladies who supported the event. The 2013 Ladies Club Champion is Helena Mowatt, the runner up in the A Division was Sue Smith. I was fortunate enough to be in the same four ball as Helena and Sue for the final round and it was great to see such good golf being played - well done to you both. Best Nett for the A Division was won by Althea Oosthuizen. The B Division was won by Kayleigh McKee runner up was Dalene Smith. Best nett in B Division was Wilma de Wet. C Division was won by Brigitte Laurent. The ladies Veteran Champion 2013 is Rosa Lombard. Well done to all this year’s winners. The Knock out winners for 2012 were: Ladies singles was won by Joey du Toit, doubles was won by Sue Smith and Elize Visser. The Mixed Doubles was won by Hayley and Alan Mendes. Champion of Champions for 2012 was won by Marliza Annandale, the ladies match play was won by Helena Mowatt. All these awards were handed out during the Club Championships prize giving. Well done to all the trophy winners. This year’s knock outs will get underway shortly, please put your names down on the sheets that are up on the club notice board as Jannes will be doing the draw shortly.

Our last Spar & Tops Mini Open took place on 28 February 2013. As usual it was a great success, thanks to Carol-Anne Ferreria from the Spar & Tops in Jean Ave for your sponsorship over the last year, it was really appreciated. The competition format was betterball and it was won on an excellent score of 49 points by two ladies from out neighbouring club Zwartkop CC, Anthea v d Westhuizen and Marialese Coetzee. Second and 3rd place went to our home girls, in 2nd place was A Langford and E Vandrau on 45 points, in 3rd place was Dee Meredith and Wilma de Wet on 44 points. Nearest the pins went to Henriette Roux #3, L Smith #8, Margie de Kok #11, Dee Meredith #17. Dee likes hole 17 as this is the hole which she got her first hole in one on last year.
