6TH ANNUAL

CRC DOG DAYS of Summer!

B

y all accounts it is hard to believe that August is already upon us, but considering the temperatures outside at the moment – 95+ degrees; clearly the “Dog Days of Summer” have arrived! Did you know the expression was originally coined by the ancient Romans to describe the long, hot, humid days of summer? Weren’t they a clever lot?

In This Issue

Apparently the official “Dog Days” run from July 3 to August 11, though in Georgia I think the dates may vary just a bit. Back in ancient Rome, the great scholars of the day paid particular attention to the constellations. During most months of the year, Sirius, known as the “Dog Star,” and the main star in the Dog Star constellation, was the brightest in the nighttime sky. Remember, we’re talking about ancient Romans here; this is not to be confused with the Sirius satellite radio service many of us subscribe to today. During July and August however, the Romans noticed that Sirius rose S E S H O E B E N D H O M E O W N E R S ' A S S O C each day with the sun. And, the days were decidedly warmer. The Romans assumed the two stars were in cahoots to create “days of great heat.” And it’s during these days that dogs, and other species, tended to simply find the shade and stay there, moving as little as possible. Ah … dog days … it all makes sense now!

Introducing WebNews Web-based newsletters are optimized to be read on mobile, tablets, and desktop computers and contain association-related content just like our print editions. Research shows that approximately half of those who use the web-based version read it on their mobile phones. This gives you the opportunity for your advertising message to be clicked on to call you, take them to your website, or to a landing page designed to convert the inquiry. WebNews is now available in Aberdeen. Other neighborhoods coming soon! Ask your representative for more information.
