FRIDAY, JUNE 5th LAST DAY OF SCHOOL NOON DISMISSAL NO AFTERNOON EXTENDED DAY

IMPORTANT NOTICES

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL . . . for the 2009-2010 school year will be Monday, August 24th. FCAT SCORES . . . Congratulations to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students and teachers on their performance on the FCAT this year. Overall scores went up in each area for each grade level and we attribute this success to the hard work of our students and teachers and parental support. Congratulations on a job well done! Individual FCAT reports will be sent home next week with your child’s report card.

STUDENT LUNCHES ON JUNE 4th and 5th . . . will be bag lunches. The menu for June 4th will consist of Turkey and Cheese sandwich on wheat bread or PB&J sandwich, Tiny Twist Pretzels, box of raisins, and assorted cookies. The menu for June 5th will be PB&J sandwich, Tiny Twist Pretzels, box of raisins, and assorted cookies.

MEDICINES AT SCHOOL . . . If your child has medicine that is being kept in the office at school, a

parent must come in and pick it up by Tuesday, June 20th. Medicines may not be kept at school over the summer, so any that is not picked up by June 30th will be discarded. Thank you for your cooperation.

CLASS ASSIGNMENTS AND INFORMATION FOR 2009-2010. . . Please make sure that we have your current mailing address for when we send out classroom assignments. This information will be mailed out in mid-August. General supply lists for the 2009-2010 school year will be given to each student with his/her final report card and should be available online June 15th. A link to the bus schedules will be available online as soon as it is made available to the school. Our school website is www.duvalschools.org/tlae. No information regarding class assignments, bus schedules or supply lists will be given out over the phone. If your class assignment letter is returned to the school, new proof of address will be required before you will receive the information. We appreciate your cooperation.

THE CHAT IS MOVING TO THE WEB . . . In an effort to cut costs and conserve paper, the CHAT will only be available on the TLAE website (www.duvalschools.org/tlae) beginning August 27, 2009. It will be posted on the website the first and third Fridays of each month. WILDCAT CHAT 1

SPECIAL THANKS . . . to Mr. Reggie McCleese, store manager at Winn Dixie on Ft. Caroline Rd. for donating grocery bags for the students to use to take home all of their things on the last day of school.

BACK TO SCHOOL COUNTDOWN Here are some suggestions to help the beginning of the next school year go smoothly for you and your child. 3 weeks before school starts: • Inventory your child’s clothing and make a list of what he/she needs • Check out the school website at www.duvalschools.org/tlae • Call your emergency contacts to confirm that they will help if needed 2 weeks before school starts: • Shop for school supplies and clothes • Label jackets, lunchboxes, backpacks, etc. with your child’s name • Confirm child-care or after school arrangements • Plan morning, afternoon and evening routines; enforce bedtimes 1 week before school starts: • Shop for groceries for next week’s lunches • Wash all your child’s school clothes • Show your child his/her bus stop • Ask your child if he/she has any concerns • Recheck the school website for updates. The night before school starts: • Lay out clothes, shoes, and backpacks for the next day • Plan breakfast • Put your evening routine into action • Get plenty of sleep

A big thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who made our “Celebration of the Arts” night such a big success! From the many volunteers that helped with the display of the student artwork to those that purchased the framed artwork, we appreciate you so much!!! We have been informed by Kids Art Fair who supplied the frames that we made approximately $800 for our art program. These funds will be used to purchase art materials and equipment for the upcoming school year. EXTENDED DAY NEWS Pre-registration packets for the 2009-2010 school year have been sent home to all current Extended Day students. In order to guarantee a space for next year, the enrollment form and payment must be received by Friday, June 5th. As of Monday, June 8th, all remaining spaces in the program will be open for enrollment of new students to the program.

ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS Remember, Duval County policy requires all volunteers to be screened before they can volunteer in the school. If you have already been screened and received your Volunteer Identification Card, please note that your card will expire 2 years from the date it was issued. At that time, you will need to submit a new Volunteer Application to the Community Involvement Office. Please check your ID card to see when it expires so you can apply for a new one during the month your current card expires.
