The most famous wine in Kvarner is Vrbnička Žlahtina. It is a superb, dry white wine with gentle notes of citrus and green apple made with the indigenous sort of white žlahtina grapes, which are grown around the town of Vrbnik on the island of Krk. Žlahtina grapes are also grown in the vineyards in the hinterland of the coastal town of Novi Vinodolski, across from Vrbnik. Valomet sparkling wine is made using Vrbnička Žlahtina and a modern and exclusive fermentation process under the sea. The bottle decorated with seashells and corals is the ideal gift or souvenir.

Try dishes made with game and wild mushrooms, frog's legs, snails, dormice, grilled trout, škripavac cheese made with cow's milk, and the unavoidable Gorski spread (boiled pig's stomach stuffed with eggs, ham, bacon, bread, and onions). While there, raise a glass of brinjevac, traditional schnapps made with spruce. 
