HOW DOES AN INTROVERT MORPH INTO A LEADER? Join every campus organization that your schedule allows. When Nayong Quan (BBA15) moved to Iowa City from China her freshman year, she was so far out of her comfort zone. But once she broke out of her shell, she was unstoppable. After a little push from her advisors, she cultivated a network at Iowa to win a competitive IT internship in Washington, D.C., and became a top campus leader.

HARD TO BEAT FOR CONFIDENCE When Torrance Windham (BBA16) arrived at Iowa, he wanted the full college experience. He lived in the BizHawks Living-Learning Community, building relationships with other business students even before taking his core courses. Then he branched out campuswide—first as an On Iowa! orientation leader, then as a Campus Activities Board member. And he kept branching out. After a transatlantic internship in Paris at Hotel Baume, Torrance began filling up his passport and filling out his résumé. Two months abroad launched him into a new hospitality career plan, fueled his desire to travel and gave him the confidence to compete on a worldwide stage. Up next: London.
