Surface Creation

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

The three fundamental type of fabrication techiniques isďźš 1. Subtractive methods 2. additive methods 3. Transformative methods. Substractive methods: subtractive fabrication is final target which is carved out of a huge piece of material use CNC machinery. Additive methods: Additive fabrication use CNC machinery to add to it and is the process where you start with a smaller piece of material. Formative methods: Heat or steam apply to a material to form it into the desired shape according reshapng or deformation.

In order to create simple, clear, modern and also changable space, I tried several kinds of surface and chose the biggest one above as my final work. Basically, all of my pavillian are try to get the base floor to by equal and straight. InsteadďźŒ I trist the upword surface to creat interesting space.

Laser Cutting

The quality of moutain board I print outside are too weak. More time are needed to be left to do the leaser cut job. Besides, more line means more works to fold, which might influce the neatility of the model, therefore, when create the patern, It is needed to think more about the real model than just look at the pitcture in Rhino.

Isometric

Basicially. the model are interect with each the from every surfaces. All the spaces are connected with each other accoring different size of holes. Moreover, not only big openings are created, but also some small cirles are developing with make the space more intersing.

I change the attractive point and the size of sphere to see the space they create, After comparation, I increase the differences between the largest one and the smallest one to get my final pavilion. Which could get more interesting intersect spaces.

Task 01

Task 02

Task 01 Matrix

Task 02 Matrix

The final modle which I chose above has equal and straight base floor. which is simple and clear, What’s more, the tristing surface make the space to be interesting, and the increasing openings above are able to gathering more sunlihght. The patterns on the right side can create funny shadow into the space. Instead, the other side are design as solid to build an different feeling.

Instead of smaller size, bigger sphere are able to connect all the surfaces together and create interesting intersections. I presever one corner of the the trigular to build a feeling of contrast in this model.
