i and welcome to the years middle edition of Scene! June is a pretty special time of the year, especially having the opportunity to welcome all our new families to the district. Shifting house at the best of times can be stressful but I can only imagine for many of you with a couple of hundred cows, all your farm machinery and equipment, and your family, the sight of empty boxes will be something you will really look forward to! I hope it hasn’t been too hard on you and that already, you are enjoying the hospitality of the community we all call home. The town that really Mata matters! On Sunday a group of past and present Intermediate students and their teacher Mrs Mac (Jaime McIntyre) organized “Clean up Matamata 2018” Over 140 volunteers turned out and collectively, bagged 390kg of rubbish! aving been a dairy farmer, and with members of my extended family still farming, I have been busy lending a hand with moves over the Gypsy Day period. I grew up in Matamata, and am a proud supporter of rural and provincial New Zealand. I consider this district to be a major contributor to the primary industry success in the Waikato region, with a big heart and great community spirit. Matamata is a strong rural service town, where the diversity of businesses can cater to all your needs – whether you’re working on farm, or relaxing off farm. We have fantastic schooling, top notch medical facilities and a wonderful public space and library with the new Matamata-Piako Civic and Memorial Centre. As your Member of Parliament for Waikato, I welcome the opportunity to connect with you; I want to hear your views, concerns and recommendations to make our community and our country stronger. Keep an eye out for a notice of
my hosted coffee mornings and public meetings, and if you are interested in politics, we hold a number of events and meetings through the year. Contact my electorate office for more information on these events. My talented team of electorate agents are here to help, and can support you in communicating and dealing with Government departments, business and non-Government agencies. There have been some real challenges for the agriculture sector recently, and I want to reiterate that I am here to listen and help where I can. One of the most important things to remember when times are tough is to keep communicating, get out and connect with others through our schools, sports clubs and community groups, and while it can seem the hardest thing to do at times – keep smiling!
