* Timothy Duma – Stages of a Construction Project

The first stage of a construction project involves planning and design. A professional may have an idea for a private or public project. The idea is studied and the potential project is sent to an estimator for a calculation on cost. If the project is approved, it is then sent to the design board.

Next is the schematic design phase. During this phase, the project is defined and the budget is refined. The construction manager and clients may determine the size of the building as well as the location and the style.

*

The design is developed and refined during the next stage. Materials and finishing touches are picked out for the building. The next stage of construction involves obtaining the necessary documents and permits for the project. The construction manager will then find contractors and sub-contractors and start construction. The preconstruction process is just as important as the construction itself
