Tim Writes On Wednesday a wind storm ripped through Cobden and elsewhere causing a mass of destruction that included some of our church property. The Cobden vicarage lost half its roof, five trees, parts of five fences, a garden shed, log fire flu, hotwater cylinder overflow pipe, electricity, and phone. The church lost its sign, two windows, two skylights, guttering, downpipes, power and got a hole in the wall. The garage has some dented walls and St Thomas' had one sheet of iron lifted. Since then we have been in touch with insurance assessors and tradespeople and every aspect of damage is now scheduled for repair. However what impressed me more was the bunch of volunteers who answered the call to arms on the Thursday and helped remove the rubbish and tidy up the trees and grounds. Apart from the damage to the buildings and some sawdust you would

almost never know we had been hit. It was a great effort and I and the parish are very grateful. We are also very grateful to the efforts of the fire service who put tarpaulins on our roof and to those who worked so hard to restore power, phone and took away the debris from the storm. It truly showed something about the strength of the Coast's community spirit. Well done everyone and thank you. We've also received messages of support over the disaster from Rodney Dunlop, the Gribbles and the Button's

PRAYER IN THE VESTRY Just a quick reminder to those involved in prayer out the back in the vestry after the Cobden service. While we offer ministry prayer out the front during the service it doesn't take the place of the chance for more extensive prayer out the back for those who would appreciate it. If you are rostered on for Prayer in the Vestry then please make your way there immediately after the service and if no-one turns up after five minutes then come on out and join everyone else for coffee and a chat. CELEBRATING MARRIAGE On the last Sunday in August (31st) we're celebrating marriage in the service. The service will include a marriage blessing for couples who

want it and a draw for a nights accommodation and breakfast at "The Rocks". We would also like folks to bring their wedding albums along to display, something nice for the shared meal and maybe even some bubbly to drink afterwards.
