This week at St Mary’s : For our Prayers Sunday Intercessions & Prayer Focus for each day this week At St. Mary’s – Our Serving & Transforming the community. In Horsham – There are many in Horsham for whom it is a constant struggle to feed and clothe themselves and their children. We pray for them and for all the work that the Churches do to provide for these needs; we ask for guidance about how we can do better. In the Wider World – We pray for Christian Aid’s partners working to provide water, food and shelter for thousands of drought-stricken and displaced people in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Southern Sudan. Members of the welcome team will of course be delighted to answer any questions you may have. Children & Young People are most welcome at THE LIGHTHOUSE, our lively Sunday Club which meets in the Church Centre, during the 9.30 services in term-time. If parents find they need it, the Lighthouse Crèche is also available for your use in the side chapel. We hope you will be able to stay after the 9.30 service, and join us for a cup of coffee. St Mary’s Church Family News THIS WEEK PLEASE TAKE AWAY A BUNDLE OF ST. MARY’S CHRISTMAS CARDS TODAY – they are prepared in street order for our part of Horsham Parish, so please can we all take some and deliver them through the doors of our neighbours (or of streets we know) to invite them to our Christmas services ... THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP! Saturday 17th December from 09.30: Attention - able bodied people! The traditional St Mary's Crib Scene will be installed and the Christmas tree tinselled take place today. Please come and help - previous experience preferable but not essential. Refreshments will be provided! Those who have helped previously will be most welcome plus anyone who would like to come and learn the ropes. Contact Steve Benson (255477) for details. Saturday 17th December: Horsham Churches Together Carol Service and Fireworks, Starting at 4:00 p.m. in The Forum, Horsham. The churches of Horsham invite you to join us to celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ with a traditional service of lessons and carols followed by a firework display. There will be a programme of entertainment on the stage in The Forum during the afternoon running up to the start of the carol service. Sunday 18th December 6.30pm: Service of Nine Lessons and Carols - Please come and bring a friend to this highlight of the St. Mary’s year, when our Choir will be inspirational as always!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION For all the families of the Lighthouse, St Mary's nursery and Little Footprints: You are invited to a Kings & Queens party on Saturday, January 7th, 3.30-5.30pm in the Barn, Church centre, Causeway when we will celebrate the wise men finding baby Jesus. Party games for the little ones (dressing up is optional); pasta tea for children & afternoon tea for parents. Please contact the church office with the number of people coming (for catering): 01403 253762 Diocesan Safeguarding Training All volunteers who care for children or youth in St Mary’s, and also church wardens, readers and clergy in St Mary's must undertake a diocesan safeguarding training every 3 years. If you have not attended a diocesan course in the last 3 years, there will be training on Saturday, February 25th, 10am-12.30, in the Barn and Thursday, March 1st, 7-9.30pm in the Leslie Room. Please contact Fiona Prentice to say which one you would like to attend. If you cannot attend one of these, there are others in Crawley, Worthing, Hove and Ardingly. St Mary’s Bookstall: Howard Dawson will take over the running of the bookstall under the tower in the New Year. Howard already manages the Home Group information resource located in the Church Office. He can be contacted on 01403 252536. St Mary’s Nursery would like to say a big THANKYOU! They have received £295 from the Waitrose tokens collection. Sister Eileen Wheeler has just published a new book, The God Who Keeps His Promises which is a sequel to The God Who Speaks. The book is available from the church office. They are modestly priced at £6.99 and will make an excellent stocking filler! The loop system for hearing aid users will be repaired/upgraded on 16th December. Please could you let Janet Palmart know if you have any comments about the upgraded system. Please note that the St. Mary’s Primary School Car Park does not belong to St. Mary’s Church. It is only kindly made available for our use by special arrangement – which normally means on Sundays only. Please do NOT park on School grounds on Saturdays or other weekdays, even for Church events – Thankyou. "An hour's oasis of prayer and support for women in the busy-ness of the working week". We are a homegroup with emphasis on prayer and support rather than a heavy study and time commitment outside of our meeting time. We meet term-time, Wednesday evenings from 7-8.15pm, in the Leslie Room in the New Year. There are beautiful Advent candles & calendars, stunning Christmas cards and brilliant gift suggestions to help show your family what we are celebrating. St Mary’s Christmas Cards are now on sale at the back of the church, after the Sunday services and also in the church office. New designs now available! They are sold as packs of 10 cards for £3.50 or 5 for £2. This year the proceeds will be shared between St Mary’s Church Choir and St Mary’s Fabric Fund. Coming soon at St Mary’s Christmas family celebration in St Mary’s church centre, the Barn, the Causeway on Friday, 23rd December, 3.30-5pm. Nativity crafts for children over 5, mulled wine for the grown ups followed by the candle light crib service in the church at 5.30 pm. We will be making a decorated candle jar for you to take into church for further information contact church office (01403) 253762. The Friends’ Evenings of Swinging Jazz Saturday 21st and 28th January at 7.45pm in the Church Centre. Tickets £13 in advance only, to include fish and chip supper available from the church office or Horsham Music on East Street. Thursday 2nd February, 2012, 7.30pm, The Barn: Information Evening for Youth & Parents about the HORSHAM PARISH CAPE TOWN AUGUST 2013 YOUTH TRIP (Youth must be 16+ by End July 2013.)
