2016 Pine Bush UFO Fair Guide

Welcome to the ‘Pine Bush UFO Fair and Parade’ in the Town of Crawford! It’s my privilege to serve as Town Supervisor. On behalf of the entire Town Board, we’re very happy to serve as hosts of this fun, family-friendly event! 2016 has been a very big year for us. The new Senior Community Center, (located next to the Town of Crawford Government Building) will be opening soon. Our local seniors will now have a new, safe, one level, efficient building in which to conduct their business and social meetings. Charles E. Carnes In addition, the space can be rented out for social occasions, and that income Supervisor will help to support the costs of maintenance. Town of Crawford We listened to input from residents and business owners, and utilizing that information compiled and developed a Community Development Plan. You may have noticed the improvements and upgrades made to the ‘Crawford Commons’ shopping area and parking lot located behind the Village Center in Pine Bush. The enhancement project supports walking traffic and the shopping experience in the historic Main Street business district. Grant funding helped us to secure the addition of new restroom facilities in the back of ‘Tessi Chessari Memorial Park’, off of Alice Court where local children play soccer and lacrosse, and the Town’s annual Relay for Life Event is hosted. In addition, brand new Pickleball Courts have been added as a feature at the Town Park on Red Mills Road. We’re also in final stages of the development of a mile-long scenic walking trail on Ward Avenue Road, which will cross over a stream and provide beautiful views of the Catskills and Shawangunk Ridge. If you’re thinking of relocating your family or business to this wonderful, community minded place, please give us a call anytime! Enjoy the fun today and we hope that you’ll come back again soon. Paranormal expert to share his experience By GARY M. AYD

S

keptics are always abound when it comes to issues of paranormal activity. But for Westchester postal worker and paranormal expert Al Santariga, there are few things he’s ever been more shore of. Santariga is a member of the Bronxville Paranormal Society (BPS). A not-forprofit group that investigate buildings and locations that are suspected to be haunted or otherwise occupied by paranormal beings. Al and his team will speak for two hours from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Paranormal Center on Main Street. One hour will be dedicated to UFOs, the other to paranormal activity.

Santariga comes from a family of believers. Aside from his lifelong experiences which he could not share due an upcoming book that’s yet to be named, his mom also had visions and his brother is a para psychologist. After doing some research Al went about formally putting together a team thus BPS was formed. While he and his family strongly believe in the existence of paranormals, Santariga also understands the large number of skeptics. “I tell everyone I can’t make you believe something you don’t want to believe,” Santariga said. “If you’ve seen the things I’ve seen and experienced you’d be a believer too.” He continued, describing how people go from skeptics to believers. “I always take one or two out with us not on the team because they can validate what we do.” “Most people that go from non believers to believers convert because they experience something.” After speaking at the UFO fair, Santariga and his team will head over to Ward Ave the Skywatch. The team will also investigate a 100-year old victorian home at 9:30 p.m. To learn more about BPS you can sit their website at: bronxvilleparanormalsociety.com.

She’ll introduce unique significant characteristics that have appeared repeatedly, suggesting powerful energy signatures are being left on land scrapes for which hoaxing cannot offer reliable explanations. Jennifer is a member of the PA Mutual UFO Network, and founder of Main Line MUFON. For more information: traviswaltonthemovie.com

Peter Robbins The subjects of UFOs and their implications have been taken seriously by our military and intelligence communities since the summer of 1947. Exactly why then have the overwhelming majority of related news reports been subjected to a level of ridicule, sarcasm and condescension unmatched in the annals of modern journalism? Peter discusses why it’s so important that we understand its origins and the manner in which it was first set it in motion.

Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association: a star-studded cast By MATT BARBERO

M

aybe you’ve heard of them? They were represented recently at the New Paltz Earth Day Fair & Festival. Or, you may have met members of their organization in the past at the Pine Bush Area UFO Festival and Parade. The Mid-Hudson Astronomical Association (MHAA) has been active in the Hudson Valley since the early 1980’s. Some of the old timers are still around, but many of the newbies are here to stay. If you’re familiar with local Meet Up groups or if you’ve read about their upcoming astronomy events in the local newspapers, you’ve certainly heard of them. Having an established relationship with SUNY New Paltz, the MHAA meets at New Paltz’s Coykendale Science Building on a regular basis to present lectures, discuss recent topics in astronomy, and present planetarium and observatory shows. Dedicated to the increase of

knowledge of astronomy to members of the general public, the MHAA has promoted the enjoyment of the universe to persons of all ages. Lending their members’ knowledge and skills to educational organizations and other affiliated groups, this organization has invited members of the general public to participate in their guest lecturer programs, author visits, star parties, and any other events that have come across their calendar over the years.

During a recent interview with Willie Yee, a retired psychiatrist and president of the MHAA, we not only discussed the club’s past, present, and future events, but also their networking with other organizations. With a dedication to his organization that only a motivated retiree can provide, Yee outlined the many projects, events, and affiliations that the club has shared over the years. pollution is an issue that transcends not only the observer’s view of the night sky, but environmental, health, and effects on wildlife, have become a growing concern over the years as world population and with it night sky lighting steadily increases. The MHAA, in affiliation with the International Dark Sky Association, has become involved with public education and influencing local municipalities. Through Globe At Night, an international scientific research program that measures light pollution in the night sky, the MHAA has taken their citizen scientist approach to another level as members of their organization are part of a study that is actively tallying the level of light pollution locally. Although not officially promoting Trekkies, MHAA members are not afraid to dabble in the fringes of their intellectual pursuits. Yee, a Star Trek fan and a member of the new crew of the Enterprise, can be found performing at the set of Star

I’ve attended several of the club’s lectures recently, and was particularly impressed with the breadth of topics covered on a regular basis. More important than the variety of topics explored by the club, is MHAA’s dedication to communicating scientific concepts to the general public. With guest lecturers such as Chad Orzel, author of books such as How to Teach Physics to Your Dog and How to Teach Relativity to Your Dog, the club has demonstrated its commitment to the promotion of a better understanding of astronomical topics on a down to Earth basis. Like any group of people with a strong commitment to a specific topic, the MHAA has lobbied for their cause. With a dedication to rectifying issues with light pollution, the club has branched out beyond their academic pursuits, and has delved into community outreach. As any astronomy enthusiast can tell you, light

Trek New Voyages. Being filmed in the Ticonderoga area, the bridge of the USS Enterprise has been recreated, and is hosting new episodes on the Web. With the assistance of former members of the original cast such as George Takai and Walt Kernig, Yee and other enthusiasts are busily working on filming of new, original episodes of the Enterprise’s journeys through deep space. These new episodes can be found at startrekphase2.de/en/new_voyages. php. I’ve taken my passing interested in space exploration and astronomy in general one step further by attending several of the MHAA’s programs, and am wanting to go back for more. If you are interested in attending a program, information on the MHAA can be found at facebook.com/mhastro, MidHudsonAstro.org, or meetup.com/ mhastro. If you would like to contact members of the organization directly, they can be reached at president@ midhudsonastro.org or.255-4719.
