Is your newborn really not getting enough milk? Getting enough milk; signs:-Day 1: 1 wet diaper, Day 2: 2 wet diapers, Day 3:3 wet diapers-4 + Days: 6-8 wet diapers-Passing meconium the first few days-In the first month baby should have 3-4 yellow and runny stools per day-Gaining weight (after 10 days old)-Relaxes after feeding, or falls asleepNot getting enough milk:-Not enough wet/stool diapers per day (see above)-Sucking but is fussy and you can't hear or see him/her swallowingRestless and fussy between feedingsNow, if you have determined that your infant is getting enough milk by looking at his/her wet and dirty diapers and weight gain he/she could possibly be fussy because of gas, colic, allergies to food in breast milk or allergy to a formula, if you are supplementing. Or, it could possibly be that you have a high-need baby.If you have decided that your infant really isn't getting enough milk, here are the methods for producing more milk:-Nurse frequently (AT LEAST every 3 hours even if you have to wake him/her up)-Wear your child, keep him/her close, this helps milk production and reminds your infant to eat-Think about, smell and touch your infant-Skin to skin contact-When his/her suckling decreases, burp and switch breasts, continue switching back and forth between breasts-Sleep with him/her (naps or throughout the night) this helps you to get rest but the closeness also helps milk production and letdown-Don't use a pacifier-Massage breasts and express milk with hand to help release hind milk, fully emptying the breasts-Drink Milkmaid Tea-Try not to be stressed, stress inhibits milk letdown-If baby won't stay awake, try:-Changing them-Tickling their back-Tickling their feet-Switching breasts -Expressing milk into baby's mouth with your hand to help him/her get interestedFor tips on getting more rest, calming your infant and much more read the ebook "Restful Nights" at Myblessedbaby.com [http://www.myblessedbaby.com] The Baby Book, many online sources and personal experience
