Aussies and Kiwis
AC-45 Luna Rossa early tomorrow we begin the long journey home. Friday, February 22 ~ I am writing this paragraph in advance... Today-today is Friday-Friday. Through the magic of crossing the International Dateline from west to east, we will gain back a day of life that we lost three weeks ago. When Friday ends it will be Friday again. So, on Friday, February 22 at 8:35 a.m. (New Zealand time) the following journey will begin in Auckland, New Zealand. And, also on Friday, February 22 at 7:15 p.m. (East Coast, USA time) we will arrive back in Philadelphia. Sounds easy enough.
Step One: a three-hour-andthirty-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand, to Sydney, Australia. Normally, one would fly directly from Auckland back to the U.S.A., but a flight schedule arrangement by the airline redirected us through Sydney. Step Two: a one-hour-and-fortyfive-minute layover in Sydney. Step Three: a thirteen-hourand-thirty-five-minute f light from Sydney to Los Angeles. Step Four: a four-hour-and-thirty-minute layover in Los Angeles. Though this seems like a long time, it takes a while to wait in line for the privilege of convincing officials of the United States Department of State that we actually belong in the Good Ole U.S. of A. Step Five: a five-hour flight from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. Step Six: a two-hour drive from Philadelphia back to DelMarVa. Step Seven: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
