• Back in 1903, Crayola offered one blue crayon, simply called blue. Cornflower and periwinkle were made available in 1949, aquamarine in 1957 and midnight blue in 1958. According to Crayola, seven out of the top 10 of America’s favorite colors are in the blue family. That plain old blue is number one, with cerulean in the number two spot, midnight at number four, aquamarine at five, followed by periwinkle in slot seven, denim at eight and blizzard blue at 10. • The intensely blue lapis lazuli is a semi-precious stone that has been mined in Afghanistan for 6,000 years. Ancient Egyptians used it in amulets, and it has been found in their excavation sites dating back to 3300 B.C. Cleopatra used powdered lapis as eyeCARIBBEAN shadow. May 19th was epic, yeah that’s right — EPIC! If you missed the show, (tsk tsk tsk!) you can check out all the bands and their performances, band profiles, and pictures at www.tntrokrumble.com. Amousia, The Brass Action & Erin Frances & The Socialites perform on June 2nd. Special judges include top industry professionals from Greenhouse Studios.

THIS IS IT!

JUNE 2nd is the the TNT ROK

FINAL for RUMBLE! It’s been nothing but rock,

sweat and tears for the past 12 weeks. And now it comes down to this one final performance. The gloves are off, the guitar picks are out and the crowd is ready to have their faces melted off by these insanely awesome bands. Everyone, please welcome your top three finalists: Amousia, The Brass Action and Erin Frances & The Socialites! These three very unique bands with very different sounds are competing for the crowning spot on June 2nd at TNB Club in Coquitlam.

Grand prizes include a photo shoot, a band website, a live audio recording as well as a broadcast quality master recording at Greenhouse Studios with Engineer Chris "Hollywood" Holmes. Over the last 23 years Greenhouse Studios has worked with Nickelback, Wide Mouth Mason, Odds, Spirit of the West, KD Lang, Cher, Bon Jovi, 3 Doors Down, and Default amongst 1000 others. Chris "Hollywood" Holmes has worked with Korn, Veer, Simon Collins and Katy Perry!?

PICKS OF THE WEEK “Drive Angry” (R) -- You can always count on Nicolas Cage to bring the crazy, and in “Drive Angry,” he brings it with an atomic gusto not seen since “The Wicker Man.” Cage stars as Milton, a condemned soul who escapes from Hell to avenge the death of his daughter and to save the life of his infant granddaughter, who is to be sacrificed by a bat-guano insane cult leader (Billy Burke). Aiding Milton on his mission is the spunky, conventionally attractive waitress Piper (Amber Heard). Of course, one doesn’t simply walk out of Hell, and pursuing Milton and Piper is The Accountant (William Fichtner), a ruthless servant of Satan savagely determined to drag Milton back to the fiery abyss. Packed with blood, explosions and breasts, “Drive Angry” is ridiculous, gory, vulgar neo-grindhouse fun.

YOU WANTED IT! And, you got it -- Vancouver’s Best Bands! Doors open at 8pm, the first bands rocks out at 9pm. When the bands finish, TNB welcomes resident DJ’s who play the best mix of club hits and old favourites. Drink specials include $3 Canadians, $5.75 Vodka Dank and $4 Jagermeister shots.

THE BLUES (continued): • The entertainment industry’s Blue Man Group has been performing together since 1987. These anonymous “mute” artists dress in black clothing and wear blue grease paint over latex caps. Their percussive instruments include the electric zither, hammered dulcimer, the “drum wall” (a two-story structure with seven percussion stations) and a mixture of varied PVC pipes. It is their habit not to speak with members of the audience, and if you ask for an autograph, expect a smear of blue paint. • According to folklore, if you dream of the color blue, you will be free from worry or will receive help from an outside source. • The word “blue” has found its way into many terms in the English language. Of course, if you’re feeling blue, you’re unhappy or downcast. Yet, conversely, if blue skies are coming your way, it means that happy times are imminent. If you use blue language, it is characterized by profanity or cursing. Were you born into the nobility or aristocracy? You might be described as a blue-blood. Has something hit you out of the blue? It seemingly came from nowhere at an unexpected time. Someone who’s done a blue-ribbon job has put in a top-notch, first-place performance. If an event is considered rare, it comes along “once in a blue moon.” A true-blue friend has proven himself to be loyal and faithful.

I haven’t enjoyed a film this much since “From “American Graffiti: Special Edition” (PG) -- George Lucas’ 1973 blockbuster about a Dusk Til Dawn.” group of high-school kids raising hell on their “Stanley Kubrick: Limited Edition Collection” last summer night before college is a rock ’n’ (R) -- Nine movies, 10 discs, all high-def remas- roll-fueled nostalgic joyride through the eartered on Blu-ray, this boxed set contains the best ly 1960s. Featuring Wolfman Jack, Richard works of one of cinema’s grand masters: “Sparta- Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford and a cus,” “Lolita,” “Dr. Strangelove,” “2001: A Space ton of other young actors who would become Odyssey,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Barry Lyn- big movie stars, and a soundtrack that is a don,” “The Shining,” “Full Metal Jacket” and pure joy to listen to, “American Graffiti” is “Eyes Wide Shut.” Also included in the set is a the best film George Lucas ever made. hardcover 40-page book packed with photos and DOG OF THE WEEK essays about the films. “Passion Play” (R) -- Mickey Rourke, Bill Murray, Kelly Lynch, Rhys Ifans and Megan Fox star in this horrible, direct-to-DVD mess about a jazz musician (Rourke) who falls in love with a winged sideshow attraction (Fox) and is pursued by a gangster (Murray) who must possess the enigmatic, pouty-lipped freak.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19)

Although you would prefer to move forward at a steady pace, it might be a good idea to stop and reassess your plans. You could find a good reason to make a change at this time.

TAURUS (April 20 to May 20)

Just when you thought you had everything planned to the smallest detail, you get some news that could unsettle things. But a timely explanation helps put it all back on track.

GEMINI (May 21 to June 20)

Home and work continue to compete for your attention. But you handle it well by giving each its proper due. Someone you trust offers valuable advice. Listen to it.

CANCER (June 21 to July 22)

Unsettling news creates a difficult but not impossible situation. Continue to follow your planned routine, but keep your mind open to a possible change down the line.

LEO (July 23 to August 22)

Lick your wounded pride if you like, but it’s a better idea to find out why your suggestions were rejected. What you learn could help you deal with an upcoming situation.

VIRGO (August 23 to September 22)

Feeling a bit listless? No wonder. You might be pushing too hard to finish everything on your to-do list. Cutting it down could help get your energy levels up.

LIBRA (September 23 to October 22)

Taking time out of your busy schedule might be the best way to handle that sensitive private matter. It will help reassure everyone involved about your priorities.

Q: When will one of my favorite shows, “Drop Dead Diva,” be back for its next season? -- Gennifer T., via email A: Well, you don’t have long to wait! “Drop Dead Diva” returns to Lifetime Television for its third season on Sunday, June 19. For those who haven’t seen the show, “DDD” is a one-hour comedic drama that tells the story of a shallow wannabe model who dies in a sudden accident, only to find her soul resurfacing in the body of a brilliant, plus-size and recently deceased attorney, Jane. This season’s guest stars include Paula Abdul, Kathy Griffin, Wanda Sykes, Clay Aiken, Lance Bass, Amanda Bearse, Tony Goldwyn, Howard Hesseman, Sharon Lawrence, Jennifer Tilly, Quinton Aaron and more. *** Q: I was watching a new sitcom on ABC called “Happy Endings,” and the actor who plays Dave looks very familiar. What else might I have seen him in? -- Jerry G., via email A: Well, I remember Zachary Knighton best as Bryce from the shouldn’t-have-been-canceled show “FlashForward.” I also rewatched “The Prince and Me” recently, and realized that he plays one of Julia Stiles’ brothers in that movie. He’s also had guest roles on “House, M.D.” and “Bones,” as well as “Law and Order” and “Law and Order: SVU.” Stop me when something sounds familiar .... *** Q: I was so happy to hear that FX’s “Justified” has been renewed for a third season; however, I was sad to see Joseph Lyle Taylor’s character, Doyle, get killed in the second-season finale. Now that his run on “Justified” is over, where can I catch this

A: Joseph’s next role is that of Martin Chisholm in the feature film “Seven Days in Utopia,” which also stars Melissa Leo, Robert Duvall and Lucas Black. Joseph told me a bit about the film: “It’s really a heartfelt movie about this kid, played by Lucas Black, finding himself. I play his father. It’s such a pretty script. “My character rides his son hard to do his best in golf and makes him practice and this and that. He ends up giving him some bad advice, and his son ends up not winning the tournament, takes off and that is where he meets Robert Duvall (who plays Johnny Crawford) out in Utopia. He learns some life lessons out there, and he comes back and tries to make amends with his father. It’s really touching.”

Every year on April 22 -- Administrative Professionals Day (also known as Secretaries Day), appropriately -- a local radio station sponsors the event, in which contestants are raised in a lift truck to a height of 50 feet, then compete to see who can land a typewriter closest to the bull’s-eye painted on the ground below.
