What is Kiteboarding? When you mix elements of windsurfing, wakeboarding and surfing you get kiteboarding, which is also called flysurfing or kitesurfing. Kiteboarding began gaining in popularity in the late ‘90s and now has a strong following. According to most kiteboarders, the sport is relatively easy to learn and once you become familiar with all of the equipment and safety aspects of the sport, investing in lessons are a very good idea. After a few lessons, most kiteboarders are able to stand on their board and with five to six lessons under their belt they are ready to attempt jumps. Huge jumps are one of the most exciting aspects of kiteboarding and highly skilled borders can easily jump ten to twelve feet. The required equipment for kiteboarding is a kite, a control bar with lines, a board and a harness. This gear ranges $500 - $2,000 depending on the size and brand of equipment. For beginners, a helmet is certainly recommended and a wetsuit may be required for boarding in cold water. Kiteboarding equipment is constantly improving and changing so it’s a good idea to invest in equipment two years old or newer. For more detailed information on kiteboarding, please visit
