Blue Thunder Ice Cream By Abbie Thornley In October of 2010, Westlake and their rival high school, Lehi, went head to head in an ice-cream selling contest held by Lehi's very own Emmett's and Ethel's. Each school created a unique flavor and sold it to the student body to find out which school had more school spirit. Westlake came up with the brilliant idea of a creamy blue contender consisting of blue mint ice-cream, Oreo chunks, and white chocolate chips. In the end, Westlake's Blue thunder Icecream won the contest and got their well deserved ice-cream party. At this point, I'm guessing that you would like to taste this scrumptious dessert yourself, right? Well, there's no need to fear! Westlake has kept the spirit of the ice-cream alive by selling it every Friday during lunch. Everybody has the chance to buy a cup of it for only a dollar. You won't want to miss out on this experience. Bring your money and you'll be able to have a taste of Westlake's iconic Blue Thunder Ice-cream!

Preparing for Powder Puff

The crowd erupts in cheers as the girls run out onto the football field for the opening of the Powder Puff game. Many junior and senior girls are working hard to prepare for the Powder Puff game. The game will be at 7 p.m. on the 26th. We want to see all Westlake students there! The junior and senior girls teams are practicing every day after school and the senior team is also practicing during second lunch. They have to work hard in order to make sure they can play well for the game. With this much practice being put in, it should make for an very fun, competitive game this year. Come cheer them on and see all of the effort these girls have put in pay off in the greatest Powder Puff game yet!

Kneaders in Saratoga Springs opened August 31st and has become a big deal to students here at Westlake. To some it’s an essential at lunch time. Though it may be more expensive, students feel it is a better, healthier choice.

Mariah Woodfield says, “It’s the best place around here to eat at. My favorite thing on the menu is the turkey bacon avocado sandwich. I also love their frozen chai tea!” Mckay Rodabough says, “I feel like it’s straight out of France when I walk in!”

Shae Anderson (employee) says, “The atmosphere is so positive and I love all my coworkers!!!”

Keep your toes high, and your trumpets higher because we’re talking about band! This year, our marching band has hit new heights in success. With Kylie Lincoln, Sara Lee, Mary Funk and Janelle Morgan as their drum majors, Westlake Thunder Marching Band has placed at every competition except one. (But they say that it was because the judges were crazy!) They recently got fantastic feedback at their Weber Review. Their show is called “Making of a Masterpiece”. The show is about an artist’s thought process throughout painting a picture. They have solos, amazing Color Guard routines, and fantastic music playing from their instruments. I’ve seen a lot of marching bands, but none come close to Westlake’s Thunder Marching Band. This last Saturday they competed in Logan at the BBI competition. They took second in region, and won captions in Visual and Guard. Congratulate them on their success, and come to the Homecoming Game this Friday to see [5] their winning piece! You won’t regret it!
