Children have been enjoying an exciting mixture of new play equipment which includes a zip wire, jungle swing, flying saucer, climbing tower with tube slide and lots more. The next part of this work is to refurbish the tennis courts, develop a multiuse games area, provide new seating and install table tennis tables. These new facilities will be supported by an activity programme and at a later stage, a skate park will be created. These works are in partnership with Abbots Langley Parish Council. Restoration and Conservation in Leavesden Country Park If successful with a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid, the heritage associated with the area will be celebrated and provide a legacy for the Leavesden Hospitals, Aerodrome and Film Studios. With support from Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, a Heritage Trail, known as Minds, Machines & Movies will be built highlighting the significance of these institutions and their remarkable community impact. The bid to HLF, which distributes money raised by National Lottery also includes restoration work to the lychgate, railings, the existing Edwardian Garden and creation of a new Rememberance Garden in memory of those who spent their lives in the hospitals on site. Learning & Sharing In partnership with the YMCA there is a Community Activities Co-ordinator providing a range of events and park based activities. A full time Park Ranger post initiating projects in Leavesden Country Park
is planned along with a new Heritage Wildlife Centre. This facility will provide a hub for visitors and local groups including display and interpretation boards explaining the history and biodiversity of the site (subject to funding and planning). Arts & Culture an update by the Henderson Hub After years of planning, things are finally starting to take shape at The Henderson Hub - an exciting new community led arts project in Abbots Langley. The Henderson Hub is being developed for visitors to experience a range of visual, literary and performing arts and arts related activities. The project has been made possible by funding from various organisations, including Three Rivers District Council, without whose support the project would not have been possible. The main hall now boasts a movable tiered seating system and state of the art surround sound which has totally transformed the hall and enhanced the audience experience. Further refurbishments are underway which will result in an accessible space with a community arts centre, a permanent exhibition area and coffee lounge. The Hall is widely used for shows by local amateur drama groups, as well as popular films (FilmHub). Further art exhibitions and interactive workshops are planned along with more free community events, with live screenings of events such as Wimbledon, Trooping the Colour and Strictly Come Dancing final. www.henderson-hub.org.uk For all the latest infomation visit the new website www.abbotslangleyleisureproject.com
