Thrashers History A group of local businessman brought the former Drumheller Raptors junior b hockey team to Three Hills in 2002. After a "name the team" contest, the Three Hills Thrashers Junior B Hockey team was officially born. On October 4, 2002 the team played its first regular season game in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League, a 6-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Vipers. In their first season the Thrashers finished in first place in the North division but then lost their first round playoff series in overtime in the fifth game against the Ponoka Stampeders. The Thrashers first head coach was Reid Fenton, assisted by Aaron Sept and Rick Lobe. Fenton served the team for six years as head coach, and during this time other assistant coaches included Rod Perks, Weldon Wilson, Travis Kletke, former Thrasher defenseman John Regehr and Ian Hall. Ian Hall took over as head coach for the 2007-08 season and returns for his second season behind the bench. His assistant coaches this year are former player Josh Sohn and Wayne Sharp. In their seven previous Heritage Junior B League seasons, the Thrashers have missed the playoffs only once (2004-05). In terms of playoff success, their best season was in 2007-08, the year the Thrashers played host to the Junior B Provincial Championships. After winning their first ever playoff series against the Mountain View Colts, the Thrashers lost out in the North division semi-final to Stettler. However, as hosts of provincials, the Three Hills automatically qualified for the tournament and found success. After a thrilling 4-2 semi-final victory against the Cochrane Generals, champions of the Heritage Junior B League, the Thrashers lost 5-3 in the championship game to the Sherwood Park Knights and claimed the provincial silver medal in front of their hometown fans. The Knights went on to win the Keystone Cup at the Western Canadian Junior B Hockey Championships in Selkirk, MB that season.
Best of luck to the 2009-2010 Thrashers!

Three Hills Thrashers President James Main We're back for another season with a competitive team that should provide a lot of entertainment for Three Hills and area fans. Once again, I'd like to remind people that it takes more than players to make a team. It takes a dedicated board of directors, coaching staff, management and training staff, sponsors and most importantly, a strong fan base. To date, we have been blessed to have all those ingredients that make up a recipe for a winning team and a much admired junior hockey organization. In these tougher economic times, many of our sponsors have remained steadfast and they have our eternal gratitude because it takes a lot of effort to reach our target budget of more than $85,000 a year. Everyone from players to parents to directors are contributing their efforts to reach that goal, but in the final analysis, fans and sponsors are our lifeblood. That puts the onus on us to give you a competitive and entertaining team and we hope we have done that with the group of dedicated young men who make up the Three Hills Thrashers.
Norma Dickau, Team Manager Well, here we are again for another exciting year of Junior B Hockey. While there may have been a hint of disappointment at last year's early playoff finish, we know that our coaches and players did all they could and just came up a little short in a very tough series. There is always a learning curve in any level of hockey and although we lost some gifted players, we are blessed to have a core of experienced players who are skilled and dedicated. They will lead the way for our band of talented and eager newcomers. As was the case last year, we have a great coaching staff, parents, board members and fans to help us on the exciting season that we hope will build a championship team! Thanks to all involved!
