Full Scale Installation

6

Students were tasked with creating a full scale installation to be scanned by a 3D scanning company. My team and I decided to create an undulating surface that would mimic the surface of the ocean as it flapped in the wind. It was constructed with tyvek, climbing rope, and grommets. The 3D scanning company generated a point cloud from their scans (as seen on this page). Students were then tasked with turning that point cloud into a topography surface.

House of An Impermanent Dweller

10

I conceive an impermanent dweller to be someone with some kind of spiritual dimension, seeking to disconnect from the world. This house will serve impermanent dwellers by being a liminal space between earth and heaven. By being in the wilderness of the Badlands of South Dakota, one is Disconnected from the world and, therefore, connected to the present moment. The house will gently touch the land and rise above it as a means of exemplifying this disconnect from the world and reconnection with the here and here and now.

Students were tasked with documenting themselves performing a motion with their body. They then extrapolated a 2D composition from that motion and translated that into a 3D form. This 3D form would then be 3D printed.
