1235 SMALL COLONIAL PORTRAIT OF IDENTIFIED FRENCH & INDIAN WAR BRITISH ARMY OFFICER, GEN. DWIGHT FROM MASSACHUSETTS - Portrait of Brigadier General Joseph Dwight, (1703-1765), of Massachusetts Provincial Forces in the French War of 1756, signed ‘Marchand’ after Blackburn, (verso, under letter, apparently). 1235 Identified by Newman F. McGirr of Philadelphia in a lengthy 1930s letter verso. Other than the identification of the sitter, the letter reads: “See Dunlap’s Arts of Design, page 24, Vol I, for illustration of the original Blackburn painting (three-quarter length standing). In the original lemon gold molded frame, OS: 12 3/4” x 10 1/2”, SS: 9 1/2” x 7 1/2”. Some small scuffs. $800 - $1,200

1236 ENGLISH CARVED OAK GUILD EXAM PANEL - Deep Relief Carving in golden oak, in the manner of Grinling Gibbons, featuring fruit, done as a skill examination for the Woodcarver’s Guild in England. 25 1/4” X 17 1/2”. Slightly cupped, with splines at top and bottom. $1,000 - $1,500

1237 SATINWOOD TEA CADDY WITH PATERA INLAY - Early George III Period Satinwood Tea Caddy, early 19th c., with canted corners, inlaid patera lid, front, back and side panels, foliate marquetry motifs surrounding cartouches and to corner panels, edge stringing, bone lock escutcheon (no key), interior with two lidded compartments with traces of foil lining, felted base, 4 3/4” high, 7 1/2” x 4”. Minor veneer repairs, surface wear. $800 - $1,000

1238 HENRY PARLEE PARKER (UK, 1795-1873) - “The First Day of Oysters”, oil on canvas, unsigned, but with original handwritten label pasted to stretcher giving title and indicating “By Parker from Lord Lindsay’s Collection”, depicting a small group of people gathering in the dooryard of an inn enjoying the fresh harvest. (Possibly from the collection of Major General Sir Henry Lindsay Bethune, 1st Baronet dejure, 9th Earl of Lindsay, 1787-1851.) Another later label verso appears to read, “W.H. Johnson, Jan 11 ‘96.” Housed in the original gold painted matched corner gesso cove frame, OS: 16” x 18”, SS: 7 1/2” x 9 1/2”. Good 1238 condition. $1,000 - $1,500 60
