Gallery Copy of the monumental “Harbour with Villa Medici” of 1637, now hanging in the Galleria Degli Uffizi, Florence, Italy. In the exact size of the original, 52” x 40”, with a substantial gilt frame liner of the period. OS: 56” x 44”. 1188 JOHAN BARTHOLD JONGKIND (NETHERLANDS/FRANCE, 1819-1891) Dutch Harbor Under Full Moon, oil on beveled mahogany panel, signed lower left, ca. 1870, possibly depicting Rotterdam, men gather around fire on right near cluster of boats with sails up drying, distant city with large ships and ghostly reflections, housed in a large Victorian gilt gesso frame with wide beaded black panel liner, red and gold lip, the panel floated within, OS: 30” x 26 1/2”, SS: 10” x 8”. 1189 CAPTAIN WILLIAM ELLIOTT, R.N. (UK, 1755-1792) - Two British Warships Annihilating Two French Frigates Close to Shore, Napoleonic Wars, oil on canvas, unsigned, artist identified on frame tag (with wrong death date), housed in vintage gold cove frame, OS: 28” x 40”, SS: 23 1/2” x 35 1/2”. Cleaned and relined. Lt. Elliot gained some reputation among society circles for his naval battle paintings, mostly executed between 1780 and 1790. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and was made an Honorary member, while still serving in the Navy. 1186 CLAES CLAESZ WOU (NETHERLANDS, 1592-1665) - ‘The Battle of Kijkduin’, oil on mitered oak panel, unsigned, depicting the height of the naval battle that was also known as the Battle of Texel, 21 August 1673, between the Dutch and the combined English and French fleets, for a Dutch victory. This was the last major battle of the Third Anglo-Dutch War, which was itself part of the Franco-Dutch War (1672–1678), during which Louis XIV of France invaded the Republic and sought to establish control over the Spanish Netherlands. Set in contemporary gilt frame with linen liner, OS: 20” x 33”, SS: 15 1/2” x 28”. Good condition. $12,000 - $15,000
