Technology is Forever Changing Entertainment By Judy Loy, ChFC® and CEO of Nestlerode & Loy, Inc. I recall in the late 1990’s walking into Dan Nestlerode’s office and being introduced to one of the first portable digital music players The Rio, made by Diamond Multimedia. I wasn’t very impressed as it didn’t hold many songs, but it did portend the coming age of digital music. The age of Napster and Rio has passed but iTunes is still having an effect on the music industry. The first Apple music player, the iPod, was introduced in 2001 and Apple’s digital music store, iTunes, opened in 2003 and currently holds the title of biggest music vendor. Have you seen a stand-alone, bricks and mortar music store recently? They are few and far between. Album sales, which once were the backbone of the industry, are a thing of the past with singles leading the way. Now we have Pandora, the largest free internet customizable radio, and their many competitors providing free music streaming through the internet. With an iPhone, Sirius, Pandora and listeners’ other options, people can pick and choose the music they want to listen to and disregard those they don’t, which is even easier than turning a dial on the radio. With the introduction of the e-reader, a mobile electronic device to read digital e-books and periodicals, many pundits foretold the end of paper and hardback books. Although the first e-book was the Sony Librie, introduced in 2004, it was the Amazon Kindle that became a smash hit in 2007 selling out in five and a half hours. Amazon’s online bookstore and ebooks certainly put a large dent in bricks and mortar bookstores. Borders, an international book and music retailer, went Chapter 7 and ended its existence in 2011. Bookseller Barnes & Noble is also feeling the pinch from its electronic and internet competition. Its e-reader, the Nook, failed to compete with the existing e-readers and tablet computers, which run apps that allow for electronic reading. One area that is actually benefitting from electronics is audio books. Sales of audio books have moved up by double digits recently and audio books are a $1.2 Billion industry. In 2008, Amazon purchased Audible, an online digital audiobook retailer. Now, it has introduced Whispersync For Voice that permits a reader to switch not only among devices, but also from the audio version of a book to an e-book version and always leave off on either device where you stopped ‘reading.’ So you read a book in bed before you fall asleep and continue listening in the morning on the way to work in your car using your smartphone. The latest developments in entertainment can be seen in the stock price of Netflix (NFLX), with a price to earnings of 232 and a market price of $246.21 per share at the time of this writing. Netflix, Hulu and their competitors are changing the way viewers watch movies and TV. It started with DVRs (digital video recorders), which let people watch whatever program they like at whatever time they choose, without worrying about changing that VHS tape. I have to admit I don’t watch anything when it is actually on anymore and I recently subscribed to Netflix. I talked to a salesperson at an Apple store who had stopped his cable service and just used Netflix and Hulu for his TV viewing. Rather than be at the mercy of a broadcaster’s schedule, now people are viewing entire seasons of shows on weekends. This activity even has a name: binge viewing. Netflix took it one step further and created its own show with a big name star, House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey, with an entire season issued at once. Was it a success? House of Cards garnered nine Emmy nominations. As far as viewership, Netflix will not reveal the audience for their original shows. Will Netflix and internet viewing kill broadcast TV? Will paperbacks cease to exist? Or will it all just add more competition to a family’s downtime schedule? We know the latter is definite as far as what’s next for our entertainment dollars but whether paper books go the way of 8-tracks and cassettes is yet to be seen. What’s interesting is what will be next, reading Alice in Wonderland to your child while holographic images of the story are played out in front of you? It’s Time: Is Personal Care right for me? If you are having more and more difficulty with everyday activities such as showering, dressing, getting around the house and running errands, a personal care community or facility may be the answer. You can get the daily support you need to remain as independent as possible. While it can be a difficult decision to leave your home, it is important to be realistic about your needs. If you are trying to decide if personal care is right for you, ask yourself the following questions:  Do you need more help than family or friends can provide? Are the activities of daily living becoming more stressful and overwhelming?  Do you feel lonely or isolated in your home? Having an active social life is vital to your health and happiness and prevents depression. A personal care community offers a range of social and recreational activities and some offer volunteer opportunities.  Do you worry about safety? Maybe you are afraid of what might happen if you fell and could not get back up

and caring. Ask about the food. Is it appealing to you? Investigate costs and what is included in the fee. Get a sense of rate increases each year. And look into financial stability and longevity. Remember that this will be your new home. Make sure it offers the activities that are important to you.

or you worry about another problem where you can’t get help.  Is transportation a problem? Perhaps you no longer drive or no longer wish to drive, especially at night or in bad weather. Personal Care communities offer transportation so that you can get where you need to go without having to rely on friends and family.

Welcome Neighbor!

 Are you tired of maintaining your home? Homeownership entails a lot of responsibility and work. Personal Care communities provide a homelike atmosphere without the work of cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping or even laundry.

Foxdale Village is pleased to neighborhoods announce that of both Darlington House, our personal care neighborhoods, and Anthony House, our skilled and memory care neighborhoods, are now accepting residents from outside the Foxdale Community. Whether you need short term rehab care due to a hip or knee replacement or long term personal care, don’t miss this exciting opportunity to become the neighbor next door.

Once you reach the decision that a Personal Care community might be the best fit for you then you must start doing your homework. As you start your search, remember that the amenities, while important, matter much less than the residents and the staff. It is the people that truly make any place. You want a place where residents are active and friendly and the staff is warm

Perhaps you are an adult child who has watched an elderly parent struggle to maintain their lifestyle. It’s not always easy to know when a loved one needs help. The following warning signs might signal a need to at least talk about options: • Your parents or loved one wears the same clothes over and over again or neglects personal hygiene. This can indicate that doing laundry or getting dressed is physically challenging.

The Extreme Makeover For Your Smile In Yes…As Little As 3 Months Fastbraces Technology allows for movement of the roots of the teeth towards their final positions from the beginning of treatment by torquing them from the very first appointment. Patients can now get results often with less sensitivity, in about a year, and in some cases, just a few months. It has been developed and tested over the past 20 years Nicole and is now becoming available in countries around Carnicella DMD, MAGD the world. Fastbraces Technology is fast, safe, easy and affordable treatment that comes with a lifetime satisfaction commitment from the doctor providers. With the patented triangular design of the braces, cutting edge techniques and a special heat-activated wire, this new technology is revolutionizing the field of orthodontics. Traditional braces move teeth into position two stages, usually over a period of about two years. In the first year, the crown of the tooth is moved into alignment. In the second year, treatment addresses the position of the root of the tooth. However, the brackets used with Fastbraces work on a different mechanical principle altogether. The patented system uses an innovative bracket and a specially-shaped wire to correct the position of the root of the tooth, from the beginning of treatment. This combination is key in realigning the root and crown simultaneously. The Fastbraces Technology brackets have an elevated slot and a unique elbow design. The shape of the bracket is critical because it literally changes the force-flexibility equation. The square shape of conventional brackets defines the distance between the brackets and that distance determines the flexibility of the wire. However, the triangular shape of the Fastbraces patented bracket, with its elevated slot, typically increases the distance between the individual brackets, which increases the flexibility of the wire. Additionally, the “elbows” of the bracket help deliver torquing and tipping forces to the root from the beginning of treatment. These fundamental differences allow treatment to be completed in about a year, or as little as 3 months in select cases. For the consumer looking for an aesthetic cosmetic solution, Fastbraces Clear ceramic brackets are also available and offer the same technology advantages of moving teeth as the Fastbraces metal brackets. Twenty (20) years of history, thousands of consecutively treated patients and university research have shown that Fastbraces are not only safe but offer many additional benefits. Patients oftentimes experience September / October 2013

less discomfort and these are no more risks with Fastbraces than those associated with traditional braces. Additionally, the fact that the braces are on for less time means that there is possibly less chance of tooth decay due to improper oral hygiene. Treatment with Fastbraces Technology improves the patient’s lifestyle because treatment typically takes just a few visits at the doctor’s office. Less doctor visits mean less money spent, less gas used getting to and from the doctor’s office and less time off school or work. Another remarkable benefit is the reduction of retainer usage. When the braces come off one needs to wear the retainers only 15 minutes a day in the shower, cleverly described as Fastbraces “Tooth Shampoo”. Results may vary for each patient.

Please call our office for more details about this exciting technology and our great introductory offers.

Standing Guard for Breast Cancer? Lymph nodes are often a topic of discussion when a cancer is discovered. They serve as a system of defense for our bodies from outside invaders. In the case of cancer, they can trap cells which can then be detected to help determine how aggressive the disease has become. The number of lymph nodes involved with cancer help determine the stage and prognosis for the patient. To understand lymph nodes you need to start with lymph. Lymph is a fluid which remains after the arteries deliver the nutrients to the tissues and the veins return the blood to the heart. At the tissue level lymph fluid is collected in tiny lymph vessels and through body motion is gradually propelled back to the larger lymph vessels. Eventually it is drained back into a large central vein where it is then circulated back in the blood stream. Since this lymph fluid is coming from the tissues, it has the potential to have bacteria and foreign substances which we do not wish to have in our blood stream. The lymph node has special cells, which to put it simply, filter and destroy these invaders by making antibodies and other special substances to protect us. This is not, however, the whole story with cancer cells. Let’s take the example of breast cancer and how lymph nodes become involved. In the average human axilla (arm pit) there are 55 lymph nodes. Each node receives a lymph vessel from a particular place in the body. As far as the axilla is concerned, this may be the hand, arm, shoulder, upper chest and the breast. There is an average of 15 to 20 nodes filter fluid which comes from the breast. The sentinel lymph node biopsy is a special procedure used to find the node which drains a specific site on the breast to begin the evaluation for cancer spread. The name sentinel, meaning guard, was chosen as if that node was defending the body from a particular place in the breast. It is found by injecting a radioactive protein or a dye around the cancer and then finding the node that lights up in the arm pit. If the node is negative then the axilla is considered clinically clear of cancer. If the node has cancer cells, depending of the size of the cancer in the sentinel node, additional lymph nodes may need to be evaluated. It is the number of nodes involved which determines the cancer stage. Unfortunately, the lymph node is not just acting like a filter in the case of cancer. The breast cancer cells are actually growing in the node as new nests of tumor. A single cancer cell in a lymph node is not considered positive and the body may eventually kill it. The nests of growing cancer cells are what present the concern. These nests mean that the particular cancer has cells which have special characteristics which let them grow with autonomy. The patient’s body does not recognize them as foreign and they can develop their own blood supply permitting them to grow and spread. So the sentinel node really is not much of a guard for the body with cancer. It is just one of the first places a cancer that has bad acting cells can set up shop. When found, these tumor nests in lymph nodes let us know how aggressive a cancer is to help plan therapy. The more lymph node disease present, the greater the chance of distant organ spread. The seven booby traps in a badly fitting bra: 100 years after its invention 80% of us are STILL wearing the wrong bra size! When it comes to finding the right bra, even the most proficient shoppers often despair. And, according to a survey by popular lingerie firm, it’s hardly surprising – because there are seven different ways in which they can go wrong. Believe it or not, four in five women admitted to suffering from one of the problems, nicknamed ‘booby traps’, every day. 1. THE SIDE BOOB - If the wires in the side of your cup are sitting on your breast, rather than your rib cage, it is likely that your cup size is too small. 2. THE SUPER DROOPER -The back of your bra may be too big and the band may be too loose. 3. THE BIG STAND OFF - If the front of your bra does not sit flat on your sternum, the band of your bra is most likely too big 4. QUADRABOOB -If your cleavage spills over the cups giving the impression of four breasts, your cup size may be too small 5. THE LEDGE - If you find your bra gives you too much uplift, creating the impression of a ledge, it could mean the cups and the bra are too small! 6. THE HIGH RIDER - If the back of your bra is riding up on you, the it is not the proper fit and your band is too big. 7. SAGGY CUPS - If you have too much fabric creating wrinkly cups, the cups are much too big Although all the ‘Booby Traps' identified could be avoided by wearing a good fitting bra, only one in five women said that they were extremely confident that they were wearing the correct bra size. This is unsurprising, as the study also identified several reasons why women continually experience such uncertainty about their bra size. These included losing or gaining weight, going through menopause, or having a baby. At Jezebels, our professional staff is specially trained to match you with a bra and lingerie that is exactly suited to your unique figure. We can help you avoid the dreaded “booby traps”. We understand that bra shopping can be overwhelming and intimidating, but at a Jezebels we listen to our clients and guide them to the styles and items that fit their bodies and their lives. We promise all our customers an expert, individualized approach to finding a flawless fit, which will deliver the maximum in comfort and beauty.

A Fun Event for a Serious Cause the event that they wanted to hold one in Altoona, with proceeds going to the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center. I went that first year… and I was hooked, I talked with the co-chairs; Juls Bratton and Dana Chestney, and volunteered to be on their committee for the next year. These incredible women work tirelessly, year round, for this signature event.

By Dianne M. Crust Researchers say that over 240,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. That’s an alarming amount. Many women, when asked, say that it is one of their greatest fears. In my family alone, my mother and my oldest sister, Mom’s sister and her oldest daughter faced that fear, and have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. In 2008, after a routine annual exam, my doctor’s office called with the message “your doctor suggests that you see the breast cancer specialist, Dianna Craig at the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center in Windber. You have a questionable mammoand she wants a specialist to see you and get your family history. If you stay on the line, we can make that appointment for you”… within 5 minutes, I had an appointment for the following week.

This year, we will be holding our 6th Annual Girls Night Out Altoona, Inc. Silent and Live Auction, October 16, 2013 at the Jaffa Shrine Center in Altoona. If you’ve never attended one, I welcome you to join us…I believe you too will be hooked! It’s a fun event for a serious cause.

Immediate Reconstruction Has Advantages for Mastectomy Patients You can consult with a plastic surgeon as part of your breast cancer treatment at Susquehanna Health’s Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center. Reconstruction services are part of the Center’s comprehensive approach to your care that begins with detecting cancer at its earliest stages and continues with helping you return to looking and feeling your best following treatment. Dr. Nathalie Lavallee, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, works within the Breast Health Center, making it simple to coordinate your care to include breast reconstruction and immediate breast reconstruction.

“While not every woman who has a mastectomy wants to have breast reconstruction, we believe it’s an important option to offer,” says Dr. Lavallee. “The Center’s comprehensive view of care includes helping women thrive after cancer; breast reconstruction can help women who have had a mastectomy feel better about their bodies and femininity to brighten their outlook at a critical time.” Immediate breast reconstruction, which is an option for some mastectomy patients, is performed in conjunction with the mastectomy.

“I was blessed to be treated at an amazing comprehensive cancer center, right here in Williamsport. I knew I was in good hands the moment I walked into the Susquehanna Health Cancer Center, with its bright, airy and modern facilities. They treated my breast cancer with the latest technology and therapies. Throughout it all, I was impressed by the skills and compassion of the doctors, nurses, nutritionists and social workers who treat you – body, mind and soul. They provided comfort and guidance for me and my family every step of the way. Now that my cancer is cured, I’m exercising regularly and have already dropped 30 pounds. I’m healthy, strong and feel like a new person – and I appreciate every magical moment of life.” – Sue Danneker, Linden To learn more about our Cancer Center and Sue’s story of survival, visit

For women who plan to have reconstruction, this initial step eliminates time spent waiting with significant physical changes and scarring that may have a negative impact on spirit or self image. Additional advantages include: • Cosmetic results tend to be better • Fewer surgeries and need for anesthesia • Shorter recovery With offices in the same center, the breast surgeons and Dr. Lavallee consult daily on cases to plan joint procedures and provide the best care possible for their patients. “We are comfortable working together and have mutual respect for our roles in the overall care and well being of our patients,” says Dr. Lavallee. In addition to skilled surgeons and breast health specialists at the Breast Center, you have access to quality physicians, nurses and social workers, just steps away in the Cancer Center, who provide support, address concerns and help you make the best decisions about your care every step of the way. Renew Your Confidence and Self-Esteem

Want to Save Time and Money?

areolas when a double mastectomy is necessary. Today many women choose to have nipple/areola tattooing because it is less invasive than tissue grafting, heals quickly and looks most natural when applied by an expert. Soft tissue can be unpredictable and so the breast mounds and/or scars can be constant reminders of cancer. Areola Restoration can create a beautiful, symmetrical and natural-looking nipple-areola complex. Clients feel that Areola Tattooing provides the esthetic "finishing touch" after breast surgery that helps them to focus on "living" giving them a renewed sense of confidence and esteem.

What Permantent Makeup pigment composed of? Pigments are made of Iron Oxide base colorants. These colorants have been used in the cosmetic industry for years and are found in candy, confectionary pills. How is Permanent makeup performed? Sterilized, disposable needles are used to implant desire color Eyebrow or remove color into the dermis layer of the skin. With Permanent Makeup re-enhancements or maintenance may be desired for some people (510 years). Depending on the bodys ability to hold pigment.

Thinking of Removing that Tattoo

In life you go through many obstacles. It’s a great accomplishment to see the smiles on people’s faces whey they leave my shop. I love meeting new people and I'm always up for a challenge. - Lorie Haney

That Just Does Not Make Sense Anymore?

EliminInk Tattoo Removal is a unique system utilizing the latest binding technology for safe removal of unwanted tattoos. There are numerous reasons for the use of EliminInk in removing Tattoos, such as permanent makeup corrections, unwanted name, gang related tattoos, tattoo markings for radiation, tattoo redesign, or impulsive decisions. These are only a few reasons. EliminInk is designed to bond with the original tattoo ink/pigment, and then draw the ink to the surface. DermRenu, a scar inhibitor which is built into the ElininInk solution (as well as being a stand-alone product that is used as part of the after-care program) is designed to minimize or prevent scarring. How it works and will it be painful? The Eliminink Tattoo Removal System works much like the original tattooing process. The EliminInk solution is applied using a tattoo over procedure. However, instead of applying ink or pigment this time, EliminInks specially formulated solution bond with the original tattoo ink, and then draws the ink to the skin's surface. You will have some pain associated with this procedure, no more than when you got the tattoo, so if removing a tattoo is what you want then you will have to endure it.

Please contact me today at (814) 339-6823 or email to set up an appointment.

“It’s Not Pulled. It’s Not Tight. It’s Just Perfect!” By Lucy, Actual Patient

do it again in a heartbeat.

Hi, my name is Lucy and I’ll be 68 this month. I recently had a facelift by Dr. Robert Louton. I’ve had a double chin for as long as I can remember, even as a little girl I had a double chin. Well as I aged, the skin started to really hang and it really bothered me every time I looked in the mirror. Nothing else bothered me about my appearance. My crow’s feet didn’t bother me. It was just the sagging skin and the wrinkly neck. So I decided to go ahead and have the procedure in May and it was amazing!

Before Facelift After Facelift

I met Dr. Louton about 20 years ago when he first did surgery on (two of my family members) and I was very impressed at that time and just kind of kept him in the back of my mind.

Dr. Robert Louton is a board certified plastic surgeon with offices in Altoona and State College. Dr. Louton routinely performs all aspects of cosmetic plastic surgery including breast augmentations, tummy tucks, liposuction, and facial rejuvenation. Non surgical options include a wide range of injectables (Botox, Dysport, Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra, and Artefill) as well as medical skin care and multiple cosmetic lasers. Call 814-949-7280 today to set up your private consultation. Complimentary nurse-only consults are always available for patients exploring their surgical options.

To view Lucy's testimonial video or to learn more about Dr. Robert Louton and his cosmetic plastic surgery practice, visit

I have a girlfriend who has sort of the same problem and we decided (to take the first step) together. So we made the nurse’s appointment and that went well, and then I met with Dr. Louton. He felt sure he could give me exactly what I wanted and he did! I just wanted something that looked natural. It’s not pulled, it’s not tight, it’s just perfect! The change in my appearance is subtle but inside it made a big difference. I feel more confident. I’ve had a lot of compliments, not that they knew I had anything done, but on how good I look and how young and healthy I look.

KNOWLEDGE IS A BEAUTIFUL THING You’re smart, inquisitive, and always pushing yourself to be the best you can be. You want to look as good as you feel. You’re considering cosmetic surgery and you know the single most important factor in your aesthetic outcome is the surgeon you select.

Make the smart choice. Dr. Robert Louton is a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in the most current and effective restorative procedures for the face and body. Dr. Louton has 20+ years of experience with all cosmetic procedures and his solid professional reputation means that you can rest easy, knowing you’re in expert hands.

Some people wondered why I waited till my late 60’s to have the surgery done, but I was for years trying to achieve my ideal weight and I thought I should have any surgery after that. Well, I realized that it may not be ideal but this is the weight I will probably be for the rest of my life and I decided to go ahead with the surgery and it made me look thinner! And I owe it all to Dr. Louton. His staff is amazing. His nursing staff, his office staff, everybody (at Blair Plastic Surgery) was so kind. I would recommend Dr. Louton to anybody seeking plastic surgery. It was a great experience and I would September / October 2013

Successful Rehabilitation Relies on a Team Effort A few months ago, Centre County resident Gerry Santoro sustained multiple injuries from a motorcycle accident when a car pulled out in front of him in Pine Grove Mills. Broken bones included his left humerus, left wrist, right thumb, left ankle and left knee cap. After surgeries, and a stay at Altoona Regional Trauma Center, Gerry chose HealthSouth Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital for inpatient rehabilitation. As a faculty member in Penn State's College of Information Sciences and Technology, Gerry’s main focus is on network and cyber security. He has an amateur observatory and a small organic farmette. Gerry also studies martial arts, and enjoys playing guitar and riding his HarleyDavidson. Gerry’s wife, Sue, describes him as “someone who likes to go above and beyond in life.” She adds, “He was determined to go to HealthSouth because he knew that he would get more therapy.” THREE HOURS OF THERAPY A DAY For over three weeks, Gerry worked hard in physical and occupational therapy. At HealthSouth, three hours of therapy a day are required. “In physical therapy, we worked on gaining strength and flexibility in my lower body,” says Gerry. Occupational Therapy Assistant Darla Dickson adds, “When Gerry came to HealthSouth, he only had the use of his right shoulder and his left hand. We focused on teaching him to use adaptive equipment so that he could accomplish goals like dressing himself.”

Gerry Santoro (front, center) visited HealthSouth staff that provided rehabilitation after a motorcycle accident caused multiple injuries. “I will never forget the many who kept me feeling optimistic and wanting to work to get better,” Gerry says. “We are very happy to share our success story, since it truly is HealthSouth’s success story as well.” Pictured front row, from left, Tyler Snook, L.P.N, Gerry Santoro and Physical Therapist Jenna Micsky. Why You Shouldn’t Clean Your Ears with a Cotton Swab Are you one of those people who like to use cotton swabs each morning to remove excess wax and debris? Anyone in the medical field can tell you, they have seen many catastrophes resulting from the use of cotton swabs. From punctured ear drums to super impacted wax, there are many negative consequences associated with "do-it-yourself" ear cleaning. There are a number of items that people use to clean their ears. Some of the most interesting seen in the doctor’s office are: Cotton Swabs (Q-Tips), Hair Pins, Tweezers, Pens and Pencils, Paper clips! (CAUTION!!! It is important to understand that NOTHING should be placed inside the ear to remove dirt and debris. This is a dangerous practice that could leave you with hearing loss.) The ear canal has specialized cells that produce ear wax. For some people, ear wax accumulates much faster than others. This can lead to wax build-up that causes decreased ability to hear and in some instances, pain and ringing in the ears. Some people resort to using swabs to remove excess wax to avoid seeing the physician. While this may seem like an excellent alternative to waiting in a doctor’s waiting room, using a cotton swab may do more harm than good. The ear drum is easily reached with a swab. Because the ear drum is so delicate, it can be easily ruptured by using even the gentlest of pressure when using a swab. Ask anyone who has experienced a punctured ear drum - it isn’t a pleasant experience. While a punctured ear drum will heal, it typically takes awhile and can even lead to a conductive hearing loss. In most cases, the ear canal does not need to be cleaned. During hair washing or showers, enough water enters into the ear canal to loosen the wax that has accumulated.

Additionally, the skin in your ear canal naturally grows in an outward, spiral pattern. Most of the time, the wax will loosen and fall out on its own while you are asleep. For those that have heavy wax build-up, a trip to the doctor may be needed. Doctors can easily remove with specialized tools or an irrigator that injects water into the ear. The process is virtually painless and is very effective in removing impacted wax. Never stick anything into your ear canal, including your own fingers. As a good rule of thumb, if you aren’t sure if what you are doing is safe, contact a health professional. If you or someone you know has hearing loss, visit your local audiologist to see what can be done for you or your loved one.

How To Get Rid Of Knee Pain Once And For All... Without Drugs, Shots, or Surgery Now, in Central PA, one doctor is helping local residents with knee pain live more active, pain-free lives.

Pain Evaluation”. Just call now and here’s what you’ll get… • An in-depth consultation about your problem where I will listen… really listen…to the details of your case. • A complete neuromuscular examination. • A thorough analysis of your exam and findings so we can start mapping out your plan to being pain free. • Two trial visits • You’ll see everything first hand and find out if this amazing treatment will be your pain solution, like it has been for so many other patients. Until this offer ends, you can get everything I’ve listed here for only $60. The normal price for this type of evaluation is $175, so you’re saving a considerable amount by taking me up on this offer. Remember what it was like before you had knee problems. When you were pain free and could enjoy everything life had to offer. It can be that way again. Don’t neglect your problem any longer – don’t wait until it’s too late.

Living with knee pain can feel like a crippling experience. Let's face it, your knees aren't as young as you used to be, and playing with the kids or grandkids isn't any easier either. Maybe your knee pain keeps you from walking short distances or playing golf like you used to. Nothing's worse than feeling great mentally, but physically feeling held back from life because your knee hurts and the pain just won’t go away! My name is Dr. Thad Diehl, D.C. Since we opened nine over nine years ago, I’ve seen hundreds of people with knee problems leave the office pain free. If you're suffering from these conditions, a new breakthrough in medical technology may completely eliminate your pain and help restore normal function to your knees.

Finally, You Have An Option Other Than Drugs or Surgery

Here’s what to do now:

New research in a treatment called low level laser therapy, or cold laser, is having a profound effect on patients suffering with knee pain. Unlike the cutting type of laser seen in movies and used in medical procedures, the cold laser penetrates the surface of the skin with no heating effect or damage. Cold laser therapy has been tested for 40 years, had over 2000 papers published on it, and been shown to aid in damaged tissue regeneration, decrease inflammation, relieve pain and boost the immune system. This means that there is a good chance cold laser therapy could be your knee pain solution, allowing you to live a more active lifestyle. Professional athletes from the NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL rely upon cold laser therapy to treat their sports-related injuries. These guys use the cold laser for one reason only…

Due to the expected demand for this special offer, I urge you to call our office at once. The phone number is 814-238-0232 Call today and we can get started with your consultation, exam and trial visits as soon as there’s an opening in the schedule. We have offices in State College and Clearfield. Tell the receptionist you’d like to come in for the Knee Evaluation. Sincerely, Dr. Thad Diehl, D.C. P.S. Now you might be wondering…

“Is this safe? Are there any side effects or dangers to this?” The FDA cleared the first cold laser in 2002. This was after their study found 76% improvement in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Their only warning – don’t shine it in your eyes. Of course at our office, the laser is never anywhere near your eyes and we’ll give you a comfortable pair of goggles for safety. Don’t wait and let your knee problems get worse, disabling you for life. Take me up on my offer and call today (814)238-0232.

It Promotes Rapid Healing Of The Injured Tissues.

Before the FDA would clear the cold laser for human use, they wanted to see proof that it worked. This lead to two landmark studies. The first study showed that patients who had cold laser therapy had 53% better improvement than those who had a placebo. The second study showed patients who used the laser therapy had less pain and more range of motion days after treatment. If the cold laser can help these patients, it can help you too.

And That’s Why I Should Have Let Him Keep the House! When you get divorced, deciding what to do with the marital home can be an emotional issue. Keeping that house may not be a victory. Don’t let it become so. You want to keep the marital home. It is agreed you will have custody of the kids and you have the admirable goal of trying to give them a stable environment. After all, the divorce is hard enough on them. Why also burden them with a stressful move and uprooting their lives? You can afford the mortgage as long as you receive financial support from him through child and/or spousal support. Makes sense right? Not really. First, your house is an illiquid asset with no cash flow. Even if it has positive value, it may take years to realize if the house is not sold immediately. You may be better off taking liquid assets instead. Second, if you have a joint mortgage with your husband, it will not matter to your creditor who is responsible for the payment. If your ex-husband decides to withhold child and/or spousal support, or simply can’t afford it, the creditor can still come after both of you and your credit is impacted if the spouse responsible for the payment does not pay. Also, having your name on that debt may prevent you from getting a new mortgage. If you keep you may need to refinance to avoid the above situation and remove the other spouse from the mortgage debt. Refinancing will be done on your credit score. When you consider keeping the house, don’t forget to factor in the expense of fluctuating mortgage payments,

increases in property taxes, maintenance costs, replacing old systems (HVAC, hot water heaters, etc.), and utilities. This house may become a financial burden in a very short period of time. Consider selling or letting your ex keep the home and getting an alternative home that is less expensive. Consider whether this new home that has less maintenance. Kids do not necessarily have to change schools and all their friends can still live close by. Be pragmatic. Make sure you know whether you would be in better financial shape if you walk away from the marital home.

Custom Closets

Get Organized

With the change of seasons this fall, you're probably craving some new outfits right about now. But before you cram one more piece of clothing in your closet, think about cleaning it up a bit. Here are a few tips to help: USE IT OR LOSE IT. You know it's true: there are some things in your closet that you'll never wear again. This is the perfect time to ditch those wastes of valuable space. Try using these guidelines... • Anything with a stain that won't ever come up, regardless of what detergent you try • Anything with a hole that can't be hidden or mended • Anything that makes you think, "Ugh, I hate how this looks on me," when you actually wear it • Anything that has purely "sentimental" value (it's just a piece of clothing. You'll live without it) • Anything that will fit you just as soon as you start up that diet again Whether you need a pro to organize your space or just want some ideas of your own, stop by our showroom in Selinsgrove to get some ideas. Ask the Nutritionist Dear Ask The Nutritionist: I have had severe lower back pain for many years. I have gone to MDs, chiropractors, massage therapists, physical therapists and others and no one could solve the problem. Do you think nutrition might help? — Claire M., Philipsburg, PA Dear Claire, YES, nutrition can be helpful. Sometimes pain can come from an unexpected source, such as “hidden” food allergies. By “hidden” I mean that there are no obvious symptoms that you’d expect from a food allergy, such as digestive problems, and yet a food allergy can be causing the inflammation that causes other symptoms, such as chronic pain. Allergy testing will help determine if any allergies are causing your back pain. And we can provide a Custom Eating Plan to help you transition your diet with little stress.

Claire’s Outcome: We did food allergy testing for 90 food allergens, which only required a single tube of blood to complete. Discovering that Claire is severely allergic to eggs, which she was eating daily, we provided a custom egg-free Eating Plan. Our plan included alternatives to her favorite egg-based foods and for baking. After just two weeks off eggs, all Claire’s back pain disappeared and remains gone as long as she doesn’t eat them. Over time, we’ll work with Claire to reintroduce eggs and see if she can tolerate them.

Can you relate? Eggs are a common allergen. As are corn, wheat, and peanuts. If you’re suffering from unexplained pain, food allergies may be a factor. Ask about our simple test to check 90 foods and get on the road to eliminating your discomfort.

Real Estate

Seasonal Changes As the hot days of summer fade into fall it appears that we have experienced one of the best real estate markets in several years. It also appears that we have finally returned to a traditional market after a decade of false highs and the ensuing crash. That means that the bulk of real estate occurs between Easter and Labor Day. Buying and selling will continue throughout the year but the volume has already begun to taper off and will continue to do so until next spring. The year started off with a buyer’s market, then quickly went to a seller’s market during the “hot flash” of this late spring and summer as demand increased dramatically. It now appears to have returned to more of a buyer’s market. Demand has dropped so those properties that remain will have to compete for what is available. So what does this mean for buyers and sellers? Interest rates are still incredibly low despite a gradual increase over the past few months. This trend should continue for a while so it is still a good time to buy. Prices too have started to rebound, but once again we are at a very good level for buyers and it is a good time to purchase. For sellers there are fewer buyers in the market so you have to make sure your property is properly priced and move-in ready. The properties that will sell this fall will have something that sets them apart from the competition. Location cannot be changed but sellers will need to present their properties in the best conditions possible. This could

include features that improve the operating costs (i.e. more efficient appliances) or offers a “wow” factor (i.e. good quality floors and counters). First impressions will continue to be important so the appearance of the exterior and entrance can pull the buyer from a similar property that is not as well kept. Real estate continues to be an excellent financial investment, if you are prudent in your decisions. To improve the chances of success it is important to have accurate and current information. As always, having the support of a knowledgeable local Realtor is an important part of the equation when calculating whether it is the right time for you to buy or sell. One-Stop Service

Start off the new school year with easy planning and time-saving ideas. As summer comes to an end, it is time to get ready to go back to school. We know you have a lot going on, and you don't need to have the headache of trying to get everything done. Let us help you get ready for back to school or get your business up and ready for the upcoming season. We can print your booklets, banners, business cards, calendars, signs, pictures and more. Whether its your child’s first day of kindergarten or last year of college, we’ve got you covered.

Colleen’s tips for a stress-free school year.

❶ BOX-TOPS MADE EASY… General Mill’s Box-Tops for education program is an easy way to raise money for your child’s school. Get involved; a Ziploc bag labeled “Box Tops” sent home with each child is the surefire way to get parents snipping and raising funds!

Attention, Teachers & PTO Members. We are your local printing resource! Everything from newsletters to classroom posters, outdoor banners and so much more; BIG or small, we print it all. NEWSLETTERS • POSTERS & BANNERS • CALENDARS • PROJECTS FLYERS • STICKERS & LABELS • MAGNETS • COURSE BOOKLETS

❷ CONTACT CARDS “411”... Magnetic business cards are a great way to keep important telephone numbers easily accessible and in one place. Think emergency contacts, school office and your child’s teachers information.

15 OFF %

❸ SHIIPING WITH CARE... Remind your college student how much you miss them. Care packages are a wonderful way to make your child (or loved one,) feel special. Make sure you choose your foods wisely. Stable items like peanut butter / sugar cookies, dried fruits and trail mix travel best. Make sure you seal the items in air-tight wrap to preserve their freshness. When in doubt, it is always best to send using an expedited shipping option (such as Next-Day air, 2-Day, etc.) Last of all, leave it to our packing experts to professionally pack your items.

How much is your inkjet printing really costing? Book reports, newsletters and the everyday science project are big users of expensive ink. Save yourself time and money by choosing the UPS Store as your go-to print shop. We can print black and white copies for only $ .09 per sheet and color copies for $.45 per sheet.

Notarized school forms are becoming more and more common, everything from medical consent forms to permission slips. Make it official with one of our six on-staff notary publics. No appointment necessary; and available 7-days a week. Just be sure to bring along a valid photo-id.

We are proud to support the local schools. We’ll gladly accept your Box-Tops for donation OFFER VALID ON ALL DIGITAL PRINTING SERVICES . VALID ID REQUIRED.

10 Day Blood Sugar Program Why Is Blood Sugar So Important? Glucose is the medical term for sugar in the blood. The pancreas regulates blood sugar levels by producing a substance called insulin. Insulin carries blood sugar to the body's cells to be used as energy. When the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, blood sugar levels begin to rise and high blood sugar or possibly diabetes sets in. This is one of the many issues that affect your ability to have normal blood sugar levels.

to help control the underlying causes of unbalanced blood sugar and jumpstart a new phase of well-being. The program consists of 4 whole food products, protein shakes, and a balanced diet. This program is great for people with diabetes, pre-diabetes, low blood sugar, or blood sugar handling concerns.
