MELTON

Residents can have a rare behind-the-scenes look at emergency services at a community safety day on Sunday, October 20. Melton police will be joined by members of the CFA, SES and Sheriff ’s Office as they meet residents and listen to any safety concerns. Inspector Stephen Mutton is encouraging residents to get involved. “It’s amazing how many people want to get in a divvy van and get a photograph taken,” he said. “The aim of the day is to bring all the emergency services into a safe environment where families and kids can come down and go in a police car or a fire truck and meet emergency service staff.” Inspector Mutton says residents will also be able to discuss community safety issues. “We’re going to talk to people and listen to what they have to say. The CFA will have messages about fire alarms, and will show people how the jaws of life are used.” There will also be a mobile police facility, booze bus and children’s activities including finger-printing and demonstrations from youth and crime prevention officers. The ‘safety day’ is from 11am to 3pm outside the Melton Library and Learning Hub, McKenzie Street, Melton. / SZ
