C

onceptualised by Beautiful Gatherings, this tropical fruits styled wedding shoot, inspired by the reds of lychees and blues of

mangosteens, took place on a beautiful sunny morning.

For the tabletop, the array of tropical fruits for the guests to enjoy sat alongside a hand-dyed table runner from northern Thailand and stunning flowers in tree bark containers by Floral Magic.

The floral details in this styled shoot were designed to capture the feminine yet wild and free romantic in everyone. The colours of the dahlias, Nigella pods, germini and sedum, mixed with blue thistle

and smoke bush, perfectly complemented the table runner and awesomely organic outdoor setting. One can never go wrong with organised elegance in a rustic setting.

As for the stationery, an invitations suite based on the table runner and the deep and lustrous hues of the tropical fruits artistically incorporated the theme into the various paper elements.

Love Yu also provided a lovely, versatile “Enchanted” dress that could be worn short or long, allowing the “bride” to move around the venue easily and gracefully.

inspired by flowers It was love at first sight for both Jacqui and Reece when they laid eyes on the Old Broadwater Farm in Busselton, Western Australia. Happening upon this venue quite by chance, they knew that this was the venue for them just five minutes into their visit. “The gardens were in full bloom, and from then we knew we wanted a romantic garden cottage wedding,” revealed Jacqui.

After selecting a picture of a bouquet of flowers on Pinterest, the couple used that picture as inspiration to plan the rest of their wedding details. “Flowers, dresses, suits, decorations, even the hairstyles were all based on that one picture.”

The CEREMONY The wedding ceremony was held outdoors in the farm’s garden, with greens and fresh flowers in splashes of soft peaches, pinks, purples and subtle greys taking centre stage.

White wooden chairs were also set up on the grass for 90 of the couple’s closest friends and family so that they could witness the ceremony. There was an intimate and romantic feel to the proceedings, thanks in large part to the vendors that Jacqui and Reece had handpicked, and one of the most memorable moments was when the bridal couple exchanged their personalised wedding vows.

The RECEPTION As for the wedding reception, it was held under an elegant white marquee on the farm.

There were long rows of tables with white tablecloths, gorgeous floral centrepieces and white chairs with gold tiebacks. Towards the end of the night, there was also a memorable sparkler send-off for the couple, and small, personalised matchboxes for guests to take home.

A truly heartwarming and meaningful moment during the reception happened when Jacqui, instead of throwing her bouquet the traditional way, gave it to Reece’s grandparents, who had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary two weeks before.

Needless to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

The CEREMONY Situated in the charming enclave of Rochester Park, Singapore and surrounded by lush greenery, Nosh is a favourite venue for weddings. As the bride shared: “The first moment we stepped into Nosh, which was the second venue we visited, we immediately knew it was perfect for our rustic wedding theme. I couldn’t say no to the wooden floors, lush green surroundings, hanging fairy lights and charming little bridge that made the perfect aisle. Plus the roof could be retracted at night, which would make our celebration even more magical under the night sky.”

Van Mi and Wei Kiat did not have a colour theme. Instead they opted for a warm and summery feel to their floral arrangements and decorations using colours like orange, white, light pink or green.

Most brides trawl bridal shops for the perfect wedding gown and accessories, and get caught up in the latest bridal fashion trends in the process. That’s why it’s sometimes better to step back and think about the kind of dress that you would like to have.

Van Mi got her perfect wedding gown, a simple body-hugging lace dress, from an online retailer that didn’t cater to brides, for less than USD300. Her shoes were from a shop in her hometown of Hanoi, and her earrings from a weekend flea market.

Van Mi: “Try to channel your own hobbies or interests into the wedding favours. The guests will appreciate your ‘mark’ on the gifts.”

The RECEPTION Preparations for the wedding started 1.5 months before the actual day, which was too short a time for the couple to find a wedding planner, so Van Mi decided to simplify her ideas and go the DIY route. Their carefully chosen vendors helped to create a wonderful atmosphere for the reception, with centrepieces consisting of pretty jars, candles, glass bottles with bunches of flowers and greens, and table numbers written on blocks of wood. There were also hanging wooden hoops with white lace of various sizes, pretty fluttery white buntings, and magical fairy lights that all made for a dreamy and charming backdrop.

making it unique It’s common for brides to trade their glasses for contact lenses on their wedding day, and an online search will yield very few photos of brides with glasses on. Rachel was the rare bride who chose to keep her glasses where they belong – on her nose.

The RECEPTION The couple chose to have their reception in the dining area where butter used to be made, and because that room already had plenty of character, such as the original, rich butter yellow tiles that the owners had retained, decorations were kept to a minimum. They also used lemons that they had collected from family and friends’ trees as place settings, and hand lettered the signage and menus themselves.

The gorgeous and colourful flower arrangements, consisting of tulips, sweet peas, rhododendron, flowering gum and ranunculi to name a few, were partly inspired by the bride’s wedding gown. To ensure that all the flowers found good homes after the wedding, a “pop up store” was set up in the foyer so that guests could get flowers properly wrapped for the journey home.

“I think many people get too caught up in the prettiness of things and forget that the wedding is a one day celebration, whereas the marriage is the real thing.�

the artistic eyes Fun: “Previously a designer with Axioo, I have now moved to Bandung to live with my husband. I love everything about deer and their antlers, maybe because they remind me of Christmas, and I love owls because they remind me of my husband’s eyes sometimes! Hence the tagline for our wedding: ‘You’re my deer and I’m owl yours.’

“For the masks, I searched everywhere to find a deer and owl mask tutorial, and found the perfect one in this design by Steven Wintercroft. We downloaded the patterns and printed them with pastel watercolours. You can see his other wonderful masks here.”

The RECEPTION About 300 guests joined the bridal couple at the colonial looking Maxi’s Resto in Bandung.

The last thing they wanted was to stand on a stage far away from the crowd; they didn’t want to miss the chance to mingle and join in the fun.

The garden at Maxi’s Resto combined with the colourful tower of pastel macarons and DIY details really made this wedding fun, enjoyable, intimate, comfy and cosy. There were even terrariums on display – little gardens within a glass container, a throwback to the 1970s.

Said the bride: “We’re so blessed that it turned out so much better than what we expected.”

The CEREMONY The traditional seventeenth century farmhouse Mas Bonvilar in Spain, surrounded by a magnificent garden and with a lovely outdoor patio, was the perfect venue for this romantic garden ceremony with 250 guests. The couple wanted something simple and natural, and the bride even opted for a pair of metallic silver sneakers instead of high heels!

Considering the number of guests, wedding planner Detallerie did a great job in creating a warm and cosy atmosphere, with beautiful watercolour calligraphy collaterals, rustic dĂŠcor and even a semicircle seating arrangement with old wooden folded chairs.

The RECEPTION As the unofficial ambassador for local extra virgin olive oils, Chef Nandu Jubany was a natural choice for the couple. The groom’s family has an olive oil business, and the couple had also requested that olives play a role in everything, including the wedding decorations. From the bride’s bouquet to the centrepieces, these and many other elements were created around that theme, with the help of Moshi Floristería.

The delicious meal was followed by dancing in a pretty area of the courtyard, complete with badges for the “super singles”, accessories for the more timid guests, a photocall, and even a Creperie de Marione food truck. What a party!

Innai Red showed us the many different types of high necklines that are anything but boring, and we love how the label intermarries eastern and western designs so effortlessly. Many of the designs are two-piece, which makes them versatile and perfect for destination weddings.

A proper dose of sparkle is always in vogue. Celest Thoi’s recent collaboration with Swarovski resulted in models sashaying down the runway in beautiful gowns featuring cleverly placed, hand-sewn crystals that highlighted the female form, and that added a dash of glamour to the wedding dress.

Voluminous gowns are taking on a softer look this season, with chiffon, silk organza and tulle featuring strongly in Jessicacindy’s light-as-air ball gowns and mermaid tier skirts.

e were truly mesmerised by the beauty of this courtyard that was put together by Jokee of Bliss & Glitz – a rustic industrial

theme with a good mix of vintage furniture and beautiful blossoms that went all the way from the front entrance to the ceremony space and lovely tablescapes.

Our favourite element was the barn truck drinks station that was decked out in buckets of chilled cider, exactly what you need for a hot outdoor wedding in this region. The programme booklet fans were another brilliant idea. This lady never fails to impress us with the way she makes full use of existing props at the venue, together with items from her own collection and rented goods.

As for weddings, I love Jose Villa and Elizabeth Messina. I really like the simplicity of their photos that are so amazingly beautiful at the same time.

Their eye for details, colours and mood is what I aspire to in my wedding photography. I try to be as versatile as possible when I ’m shooting. I’ve never liked to restrict myself to only one genre of photography or style. If you’ve noticed, my wedding and travel photos look rather different, from the way I compose a shot to how I light my subject and edit the photos.

What are your other interests besides photography? I love travelling and collecting vintage cameras. I love adventure. My recent trip to Nepal and Tibet on 4WD was really one of my favourite trips so far. It was such
