CARP-R-US FISHING NEWS For the first time this year the Club fished a match at the beautifully situated Pantana de Beniarres which is just passed Alcoi north of Alicante. This water can be very productive at times with lots of Carp or Barbel being taken, the Club fished zone one this time as it has a lot better access to it, but this zone is not normally as deep as section six. But on this occasion it was very high, although there was only one dry net. First on the day was Steve Collins with 5.460kilos, second was Dennis Pick with 2.820kilos, third was John Fielding with 2.120 kilos, fourth was Derek King with 1.460 kilos and in fifth spot was Ann Fowles with 1.420 kilos. The final round of the Spring Series will be fished on the Eden canal in Guardamar on Thursday the 11th of April- pegs at 8.50 and fishing from 10.00.am to 3.00pm; do not forget to book if you are fishing this match. The following week the 18th of April will be the Spring Cup which will

be fished at Argos. Tuesday the 9th of April will see the next of the Clubs Quiz nights that are held at the Club house starting at 7.30pm and the cost is 1 Euro per person, with teams of 6 or less taking part. During the course of the evening a game of Snowball Bingo will be played for with the Jackpot to be won in 57 numbers or less. The next Club meeting is on 21st April with the Committee meeting at 10.00am followed by the General Meeting at 11.00am. The Clubs home is at the Bar El Alto La Dolores which can be found just off the N332 between La Mata and Guardamar and near to the Repsol garage. 180s: Terry Hagenaars x 4, Graham Dunning, Amanda Skinner (Rendezvous), Jim Cheevers (PB´s Pirates), George Caine (Misfits), Mark Farmer, Jim Macey-Lillie, Des Field (Madigans), Derek Kingsbury, John Eyre x 2 (Meerkats), Mike Snow (Breakaways), Paul Baxter (Breeze Bar), Mark Todd, James Brown, Paul Easton (Gogarty´s), Peter Ayres (PB´s)......171s Tony Beverley (Breeze Bar), Graham Todd (Meerkats), Martin Hastings, Ron Chadwick (Rendezvous).......Highest game shot: Eddie Bendelow (Hub Meerkats) 157 (T20,T19,D20)......Best single: Mark Farmer (Madigans) 15 darts Gogarty´s kept up their relentless effort to overcome the Bulls in their quest for major honours this term, against a spirited Madigans side this week. The big scoring started as early as the 1001 team game with Paul Easton hitting 97,180 and a useful 106 setting up Kevin Fitzpatrick for D16 which he hit second dart. Mark Todd made it 2-0 on D2 after James Brown had registered his usual 2x100. Jim Macey-Lillie, who has played really well this season, hit D5 and a ton in the third to reduce the deficit. Ali O´Keeff narrowly missed a 125 out on D20, partner Easton ensuring the win on D10. Brown and Todd faced Des Field and Leah Chesworth in the second pair. Chesworth´s first throw was T20,T20 and a bounce out followed by a fine 140 from Field. The Gogarty´s pair were nowhere which gave Chesworth the chance of planting her first dart in D18 for an excellent win and a 3-2 score line. That unfortunately was Madigans last leg as more powerful darts emerged from the hands of the Gophers. O´Keeff 140,97,D10 was just too strong for Chesworth 98 in the singles. Brown 81,121,D20 completed a 19 dart leg against Mark Taylor. A further 19 dart leg followed, this time by Easton, 134,100,D20 for the match and two points. Macey-Lillie put up a good show against the younger Todd,

with 100,81 and 80 but Todd held his nerve at the crucial point to take out D2. Another fine effort from Madigans, this time from Field, 2x100 in the next, just wasn’t good enough as Chris O´Brien scored steadily and left with 72 used all three darts, nailing S20,S20,D16. Fitzpatrick wrapped up the match with a showboat finish of D7,D9 for the 12th leg. The Hyenas dashed any hopes of glory this season for the Meerkats with an excellent home victory against the current champions. The first leg set the tone of the match with the Kats scoring 4 tons via Alex Nikolov (2) Derek Kingsbury (1) and Paul Durrant (1) to lead by 300+ points and on a double, only for Geoff Proudfoot to hit D10 for the burglary of the month. Lee Holtham 121 and a 41 out deservedly made it 2-0 and in the third, 2 tons by captain Simon Williams and a 140 from Joe Miller followed by D20 from Williams made it 3-0. Williams figured in the next, this time in the pairs and hit 121, it wasn’t enough however as Nikolov 114 and 23 out pulled one back for the Kats. Durrant 135,D20 made it 3-2 only for Holtham to peg out on D2 after several missed attempts from both sides for a 4-2 halftime score line. Nikolov made it 4-3 on D5 after a 140 and 100, his opponent Williams contributing 2x100 in an excellent leg. Kats captain Derek Kingsbury´s choice of Durrant and Eyre in the next two legs, expecting to take the lead, didn’t materialise as Geoff Proudfoot 2x100 and Sean Smith 100 saw off the Kats challenge for at least a point (6-3). Eddie Bendelow 135, D8 and Graham Todd with an excellent 56 out took the score to 6-5 and the possibility of a draw. In the last leg, which could easily have gone either way, the now much slimmer and Monday singles champion Joe Miller, took out D1 for the important 7th winning leg and match. Busters have found some form of late and this week´s tussle against the Breeze Bar was no exception. The in-form Peter O´Rouke was in fine fettle with 140,100,100 and an 88 out (T16,D20), assisted by Mark Filer 100,100,141. Ray Harvey 2x100, Will Drummond 100, Babs Warren 100 and Irene Russell 140 contributed to a fine win against the visiting Breezers. Away captain Tony Beverley enjoyed a 74 out (S14,S20,D20) with Jane Kelly scoring 114. Both contenders for the Hattons League Plate had good wins and remain level on points with just three matches to play. The Pirates have the task of playing at Gogarty´s in their 25th match, which makes Breakaways favourites to take the plate. However, there are two other matches to play with both captains after the silverware and don’t forget there could be a banana skin there somewhere. Good luck to both teams. Debbie Mackleston´s Mirador Mixtures suffered at the hands of League Plate chasers Breakaways. Even bribery, offering some of her Euronics showroom products couldn’t persuade the visitors to give up the chase with the Pirates. Somehow though Debbie´s well turned out partner and soon to be husband Dave Wright, secured a Benidorm golfing tournament later in the year from the league sponsor. What a wife to have! In the match, some good scoring from the soon to be married couple, couldn’t prevent Mike Douglas from going out on 42 for the first leg. Dan Jones levelled on D10,D5 before Jay Sharpe D16 made it 1-2. In what we now know as the ¨bribery doubles¨ Mike Douglas ignored the tears, bribes and pleadings from the anonymous Mixtures and planted his dart in D20 for 13. Sharpe teamed up with DJ Sarah Simpson 121,92 who promptly made it 1-4 on D7. Ian Sleath and Tracey Simpson´s efforts of keeping the score down failed as opponents Cyril Harrison and Mike Snow made it 1-5. In

a high scoring first singles Jay Sharpe D20 got the better of Mixture Simpson. DJ Simpson scored heavily against Ms. Mackleston, in fact she had a 250 point lead, but succumbed to outside factors to let in her opponent on D3. Mike Snow enjoyed an excellent single against Cheryl Sleath 105, scoring 81,140,80,85 and D3. Lorraine Cox 128 and 66 battled out the last leg against Del Lister 120, who eventually found himself on D2 for the leg. The Committee are pleased to announce the Ladies Singles KO Competition has a new sponsor. The previous sponsors Ferreteria Rioja have withdrawn their valued commitment this season after three years. On behalf of the League the Committee would like to thank Neil and Diane Voyce for their invaluable contribution to Ladies darts within the area and wish them both good luck in the future. The new sponsor is James Brown, the ever smiling proprietor of Gogarty´s, La Zenia. James has for some time expressed his interest in supporting the league in some way and therefore had no hesitation in sponsoring the Ladies Singles. The deal coincides with the entrepreneur opening a new steak restaurant close to Gogarty´s at La Zenia. The establishment, yet to be named, will be opening before the summer and suggestions for a new name can be directed to James at Gogarty´s. The draw for this week´s Singles KO Competition took place last week and Tracey Simpson who drew the names is responsible for the excellent split of players at each of the four venues. At the Hub, Gogarty´s are represented by Ali O´Keeff, Mark Todd and Chris O´Brien. The Bulls Martin Hastings will have a say in what two go through as will Rob Hawkins (Hunks). Down at Gogarty´s organiser Bill Warburton will have his work cut out qualifying against Alex Nikolov and John Eyre (Kats), his team mate Kevin Fitzpatrick and the two Hyenas Geoff Proudfoot and Lee Holtham. Madigans organiser Derek Kingsbury has the pleasure of reigning champion Terry Hagenaars, pairs finalist Joe Miller (Hyenas), Graham Dunning (Bulls) and the formidable Paul Easton, (Gogarty´s). The fourth venue is at the Breeze Bar (San Miguel) where the Breezers captain Tony Beverley has to sort out this following lot and what a lot! Last year´s singles finalist Mark Filer, home player John Bowden, the three Gogarty´s musketeers Jack Todd, Kevin Procktor and James Brown. Madigans Des Field will cause a fright or two and don’t forget the coiffure locks of Phil Waller (Bulls). Only two to go through from each venue, leaving 8 to fight it out at Breakaways on May 9th. The draw at each venue will play its part in determining who goes through, but what a finals in store. The Gogarty´s Ladies Singles KO is also being played this week at the Rendezvous bar. Two will qualify from each of the two boards being used with Amanda Skinner hoping to defend her title and should she, it will be three times in 4 years. Former champion Sonya Cooper (Misfits) is on the same board as is Hilda Wilkinson (Honeys) all players currently in good form. On board 2 last year´s finalist Babs Warren (Busters) has team mate Shirley Roberts to contend with, but watch out for Tracey Simpson, when in mean mood, she is hot. Sarah Simpson (Breakaways) could also upset the apple cart if in the form she is capable of. One name rarely mentioned as she has only been playing for a short while is Leah Chesworth, watch out for her on board 1. Listen to darts chit chat on Exite Radio 89.2FM or 93.1FM live on Saturday between 3 and 4 p.m. Paul Durrant, League Chairman
