Own a Piece of History... ...in Bradford, PA •••

“What? No Festivals this Weekend?” This is it, folks – the last weekend of August. I’m seeing some early reds and yellows starting to color up the green forest canopy of our Enchanted Mountains. No doubt a direct result of some cooler evenings – feels good, doesn’t it? It won’t be long before we’re awash in spectacular color and up to our eye balls in festivals and fun events – Pumpkinville opens in a couple of weeks, Rock N Oldies weekend is right around the corner, and all sorts of autumn activities will be here before you know it. But this weekend – let’s see… Hmmm… Nope – nothing on the calendar! How could this be? Does this mean we’re actually going to be left to our own devices this weekend? We have to entertain ourselves?

OPTION HOUSE HOTEL, RESTAURANT, LOUNGE located in Bradford Pa is one of Bradford’s historic landmarks. Features 2 restaurants, liquor license, furnished rooms/apartments and contents. An A #1 turnkey dream..Check it out on HISTORICPROPERTIES.COM or Real Living Avista Properties. Mary Brzenski, Assoc. Broker 814-368-4205

How do we do that? What ever will we do? I suppose we could play a little golf, take a little hike, get out the mountain bikes, go on a horseback ride, or take a stroll around the Arboretum. Or we could do a little shopping, grab a bite to eat, do a little more shopping, go out to dinner, head down to the casino, come back and see what the nightlife holds for us. Or we could grab the camping equipment, make a quick trip to the state park and have ourselves a miniexpedition. Or we could just relax around the ol’ hacienda. So, dear readers, when you live and play in this corner of the Southern Tier, being bored is simply not an option - there’s always something fun to do! Enjoy! JZ

Rotary Foundation for Youth & Family Support: A 501c3 Organization With the Michael Kerns benefit “Another day in Paradise” coming this weekend, many people have asked what the Foundation for Youth and our affiliate Family Support for Ellicottville do as a 501c3 organization. To tell the truth we have always been quiet about what the group does as we feel that confidentiality is critical to our success, however a brief outline of some of the things that we do may not hurt. Many know that we made a capital donation of $50,000.00 to the Ellicottville Memorial Library over the past 5 years. Having completed that, we co-donated with the Moss family 5 laptop PC’s and charging station to help alleviate the demand at the Library. We sponsor events that we believe help our community like Americana Folk Art and Music Fair, Children First Festival, the Children’s Halloween party at the Legion & The Irish Christmas. We sponsor numerous children’s activities

and educational programs along with providing $500 scholarships to both BOCES and ECS. We provide a tool kit to students in need at BOCES for the automotive programs when entering and leaving the program to help them get started in their chosen profession. Our Family Support for Ellicottville group was established three years ago to help those in need in our community by promoting a more healthy family environment. From providing school supplies to those ECS students in need each fall to supporting special student travel and education programs, we work closely with ECS to improve the educational experience for those in need. We insure that those who do not have the money for the lunch program or books for further education get needed help. We also send two students to attend the Rotary Slapshot program, a weekend leadership retreat for teens.

We try to help the family environment through support for battered women with startup funds, clothing and furniture. During the holiday season we provide families in need with Thanksgiving dinners. During the Christmas season a unique program called “Santa’s Workshop” provides many of those less fortunate with gifts and food to make their holiday a little more special. There are other less visible support programs that are done with the help of our hard-working volunteers. Our major fundraiser every year is the Michael Kerns event and we guarantee that 100% of the funds we raise go to these programs: noting everyone who works the events are volunteers. We hope that what we do helps, but know that the kind donations and support from individuals and business’ in Ellicottville end up serving the less fortunate in our community and we thank you all for your support. ---Rotary Club of Ellicottville
