SPOTLIGHT PROGRAMS BOARD

Committees Arts & Culture

Presents inspiring elements of the arts through competitions, gallery exhibits and cultural shows. Spotlight partners with the Rialto Center for the Arts to offer students a discounted ticket program.

Daytime

Organizes a variety of events throughout the day, such as homegrown activities, plaza performances, holiday and novelty festivities.

Cinema & Gaming

Books various types of movies in Cinefest. This committee also hosts events such as Cinema Under the Stars, the annual Campus MovieFest and video game tournaments.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Promotes and implements a range of live acts from local and student musicians and bands to nationally recognized performers and comedians.

MISSION Spotlight Programs Board is a university-sponsored, student supported department that coordinates activities to enhance and enrich the quality of student life at Georgia State. Spotlight addresses the needs and interests of the diverse student body by providing social, cultural, educational and entertainment events on campus. Most events are free and open to the university community and range from Campus MovieFest, the Distinguished Speaker Series, Panther Prowls, Greek Showcase and the annual Pantherpalooza spring concert.

MARKETING

Responsible for making the campus aware of all Spotlight events through creative use of multimedia marketing and other innovative efforts, including capturing moments through photography and videography.

MEMBERSHIP

Organizes volunteer opportunities in support of Spotlight programs by recruiting active volunteers and getting students involved.

Panthers After Dark

Coordinates unique, interactive events that typically occur during the evening, such as Panther Prowls and novelty events.

Panther Connections

Plans and implements programs and events to introduce venues and attractions that the Atlanta area has to offer. Venture to Atlanta Botanical Garden, Six Flags, Zoo Atlanta and sporting events.

4 Ways To Get Involved with Spotlight

Volunteers

Spotlight produces many large scale events and enlists general student volunteers to help ensure those events run well and are successful. Volunteer time commitment is minimal and students can sign up to help with the events that appeal to them. Interest forms are always available.

Committee Members

Committee members are students willing to volunteer their time and energy to help plan events for the student body. Committee members are required to attend weekly meetings along with active participation in the execution of events. Interest forms are always available.

Event Leads

Event leads work directly with a committee chair and coordinate one of many Spotlight events from start to finish.

Skills that will be gained from involvement •event planning •negotiation •conflict management •communication

•leadership •delegation •project planning •customer service

Executive Board

Spotlight Programs Board executive board members work with committee leads, committee members and advisors to choose events to implement. Executive positions are paid a monthly stipend of $400 with an expected time commitment of approximately 10 hours per week throughout fall, spring and summer. Applications will be available in January 2019.

The Distinguished Speaker Series engages students and university members in relevant, thought provoking discussions on a diverse range of issues that impact our lives. Join Spotlight for an amazing night under the stars in Hurt Park and watch Avengers: Infinity War. Find your lawn space and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Free for all Georgia State students with valid Panther ID.

Don’t forget to fill up a punch card! Remember to get the Panther Punch Pass punched at every Spotlight event that you attend. Just five punches is all it takes to complete a card. Turn it in to the Spotlight office, or at an event, and a drawing will be held in late spring for great prizes!

Tickets will be on sale the week of the show (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) in the lobby of the Rialto Center on a first come, first serve basis and may sell out.
