Created in 2008, this annual design event is a springboard for up-and-coming accessory brands. After being selected by a jury of fashion professionals, the candidates’ creations are submitted to a vote by internauts. This year’s winner is Coralie de Seynes. PUMP UP THE VOLUME ! This season, we show off shapes. Gone are straight lines and perfect hems ! To follow in the season’s tone, we build up and show off shapes ! A long umbrella skirt rembroidered with an enormous flower from Susan Wagner, waists defined by wide belts and « puffy » knit sleeves at Elfer Castro, a bubble coat at Greenfit … the silhouette inflates or lengthens disproportionately, it is divided or constructed. Once qualified as a neckerchief, which narrowed its possibilities – very quickly – to give it a preppy connotation and mean it was often forgotten at the bottom of a drawer … it gets its revenge for Fall-Winter 2011-2012. Short, long, solid, arty, classic, rock, floral … We knot it, wrap it, play with its motifs. We love wearing it because designers have started using it again. In the image of a painter’s canvas, squares and shawls are ideal grounds for expression, especially for textile designers. CONSUMER DESIRES FOR FALL-WINTER 2011-2012, DECIPHERED BY ALEXANDRA SENES A refusal of passivity and taking back what is public are at the heart of Fall-Winter 2011-2012 trends. After having experienced the consequences of a worldwide crisis, the individual becomes a citizen once again. The result : he or she innovates while acknowledging everyday necessities and is full of creative energy while envisioning a more thought-out, reasonable future. She uses collages, mixes and blends … but also gleans and discovers special tidbits. She hunts everywhere, taking inspiration from everything, renewing with values of handicrafts and workmanship to create her own universe. This universe, designed to last, is found in the season’s three strong attitudes captured by Alexandra Senes who deciphers, analyzes and illustrates them in the informative, practical Trendswash forum at PRET A PORTER PARIS® Hall 7.1

IT’S ALREADY TOMORROW

« CLAN-À-PORTER© » LIFE IS STYLIZED This is a new social, economic and ideological class. A population composed of « in the know » hipsters who watch for trends, are on the cutting edge of cool and hunger for handcrafted know-how. Clan-wear© appears to be « something » while remaining nonchalant. Hipsters « think Glocal » by mixing local with their enthusiasm for global. We have identified seven branches of hipsters, they can be united without having a uniform. On one hand the Neo(n)-wear clan appropriates colors with disco hedonism : oversized accessories, explosive makeup and bright tones reflect a desire to transform the everyday into a party. On the other hand, the Rustic-wear clan prefers to mix rough materials and flea markets finds with technical, ultra-light fabrics. Next to them, the Romantic-wear clan emphasizes naivety, romanticism, « consuming looks » and showing off their lifestyle. The Brand-wear clan is eccentric and slightly decadent, living in a lavish, flashy world where brand names are vital. The Luxury-wear clan incarnates sober values and works to arrive at an ideal of intelligent luxury. The Intello-wear clan are social, political and cultural analysts who cultivate a retro style that is almost corny. The Utopia-wear clan are sticklers for purity, they adore contemporary art and architecture, are marked by the 80’s or Japan and remain attached to a slightly-dated strictness. In this trend, each person stylizes his life based on his clan without blending into the masses. Concretely … On a basic items – pants, shirt, cardigan – each sub-clan (a tattoo artist or instant image maker) adds a strong, personal detail. The Matchwork clan explodes codes in bold, unexpected associations of prints, colors, textures and shapes with a daring appeal. Behind this apparent chaos is a driving, carefully defined force : a chosen, constructed accumulation. The garment becomes a costume, its appeal is a parody. In this creative heap, there is a desire for self-mockery. We are intrigued and ultimately convinced by these deliberate, sublimely strange fashion faux pas on the border of good taste. A true visual « car wreck ». Concretely … This is the unexpected, daring meeting between houndstooth micro-trousers and an angora sweater with flashy stripes or a classic mat jersey skirt and a shiny vinyl top. Here, everything is a pair two textures, two colors, two fabrics. « EDITORIAL LINE » SETS THE TONE With sobriety and carefree chic, the Editorial Line family takes refuge in fundamental values. For them, black is no longer Gothic or representing intello-left-wing architects, it isn’t even a little black dress. Black rhymes with humility. It works best in textures and pure, impeccable shapes. This girl only slips on perfectly cut pieces. She subtly plays with fabric blends, cultivating a constantly renewed creativity. MIKI MIALY Paris Capitale de la Création Prize for Atmosphère’s Japanese designer Miki Mialy, a graduate of the Gakuen Fashion School in Osaka, launched her ready-to-wear brand in Paris in 1992. She quickly opened a boutique-showroom in the French capital to present her high-end collections where a feminine mood is always accompanied by a special twist to make a difference or an intriguing detail which attracts attention. Each woman can make these clothes her own and be beautiful without feeling restricted. Her know-how and unique viewpoint deserved to be in the spotlight.

DU POIL DE LA BÊTE Paris Capitale de la Création Prize for The Box A funny name for fun jewelry collections. Or rather jewelry with humor mixing together a rock mood with references to cartoons, fairy tales and princess jewelry … Designer Cécile de Rembauville, who did a stint as an accessories designer at Christian Dior, transforms lace into chains, mixes rhinestones with jersey and plays with different references. She reconciles the untameable woman with an innocent softness.

It is, first of all, Isabelle and Louise, two friends from Parisian workshops who create, on four hands, necklaces, chains and bracelets or «tritons barbus», heavy with pearls and knick-knacks, real pearls and charms discovered from forgotten boxes or bric-à-bracs along unusual routes. Their creations, subtly orchestrated unique pieces, are humorously and poetically an incredible universe.

FASHION SHOWS FROM PARIS Fashion protection On the fashion planet, some designers are like gods. Nathalie Queyraud, the name behind this jewelry brand, had the fun, off-beat idea of placing « clothes addicts » under Fashion Protection. Concretely, this results in a collection resembling rosary beads, assembled as expected, but embellished with enamel silhouettes of key runway personalities.
