510 E. 2nd St, Los Angeles, CA Office Building 160 FT 9 49,500 SF Cross Laminated Wood Double glass facade Central Core Egress System

The project aims to create a contemporary office building that suits for co-working spaces. The structure system explorecross-laminated timber system to its maximum efficiency by using all CLT supported structures such as CLT walls and floors. The structural grid of CLT walls correspond to its orientation to sun. For example, CLT walls become more closely to each other in south in order to avoid direct sunlight and more spread out in north and east to allow more light. The vertical load is easily transfered from one level to another through alternation of CLT walls.By taking advantages of CLT spans, the project creates pleasing balcony spaces for leisure activities. The facade is composed of peforated metals that creates 3 different types of openings, which allow different degrees of light exposure to different spaces. The ground floor consists of commercial retail spaces with a central courtyard that allows visitors and workers to enjoy leisure activities while working during the day.
