Dear Community Friends and Fellow Rotarians, Thank you for attending our 40th Annual Sportsman’s Dinner and Auction. Your support this evening will help ensure that Lakewood Rotary continues its history of making a positive impact on the community. Through your active participation this evening, your winning bids will turn into approximately $80,000 for various local charities, schools, and youth activities. Tonight is the evolution of that humble start – so, please eat, drink, enjoy and raise your paddle to support Lakewood Rotary’s good work. On behalf of the Sportsman’s Dinner Committee – thank you for your support and please feel free to bid – bid – bid! Sincerely,

ABOUT US WHO ARE ROTARIANS? The first Rotarians were four businessmen in Chicago, who “rotated” between their offices for meetings, beginning on February 23, 1905. The first service project came in 1907, when they installed a “public comfort station” in Chicago. Today there are 1.2 million Rotarians, in 30,149 clubs, in 162 countries around the world. Rotarians are men and women who are leaders in their communities: business managers, teachers, clergy, lawyers, military officers, and other professionals dedicated to making their community and the world a better place to live. The organization of Rotary exists to serve.

WHAT DO ROTARIANS DO? Rotarians serve the community and the world. The highest profile of Rotary’s projects is the eradication of polio from the face of the earth. To date, Rotary has committed $438 million to this project, not including the millions of donated man-hours. Two billion children have been vaccinated, so far, and polio has declined 99 percent since the start of the project. Four million children, who would have had polio, don’t. And that is only the beginning. Rotary has one of the largest scholarship programs in the world along with professional exchange programs and student exchanges. Rotary provides water wells where none existed, provides school supplies to people with nothing, and helps in every major disaster in every corner of the world. Rotary is everywhere, helping with money and countless volunteer hours.

WHO ARE THE LAKEWOOD ROTARIANS? Formed in 1956, there are currently 130 men and women members of the Rotary Club of Lakewood. They joined Rotary in order to have an outlet to serve the community. Since the Club’s conception, Lakewood Rotary has raised approximately two million dollars to support charitable projects such as: St. Joseph’s Renal Dialysis Center Boy Scout Building Lakewood YMCA Cap Peterson Baseball Fields Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound Jaws of Life - Lakewood Fire Department Mary Bridge Hospital Renal Dialysis Center @ Tacoma General St. Clare Hospital Lakewood YMCA startup funds Fort Steilacoom Park Playground Village ConeXions - Military Families Support International Baccalaureate Program Caring for Kids Rotary International Foundation & Polio Plus Program All Rotarians live by the motto of Rotary: Service Above Self Tonight’s “Raise the Paddle Project” is for Family Renewal Shelter!

ABOUT TONIGHT’S PROCEDURES SILENT AUCTION •

• •

To bid on the items at the silent auction tables, simply write your name and bid number on the bid form next to the amount that you wish to bid. The next bidder must bid at one of the higher bid prices to be successful. Please write legibly and press hard as you are making three copies. Placing your name on the bid sheet constitutes a legal contract to buy that item. If you want to assure that you will win that item, simply put your name on the Guaranteed purchase line (if there is one) and it is yours. Not all items will have a guaranteed price. You may bid at any time during the silent auction until that table is closed. There will be four silent auction tables. No bidding is allowed after each table’s closing time. If there are two people who want the same item when the table is closed, an oral bid-off will be conducted at that time. Do not remove items from the tables. Retrieve your items when all business transactions are completed. At closing, the silent auction “closers” will circle the top bid number and amount. You may check during the evening to see if you were the successful bidder by looking at the copy of the silent bid form, which will be left in its place after the table is closed.

LIVE AUCTION • •

• •

Preview of the live auction items begins at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until our live auction begins. To bid during the live auction, just hold up your bid number. Be sure that the auctioneer acknowledges your bid. There will be spotters among the crowd to help recognize bidders during the live portion of the auction. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid that is merely a fractional advance over the prior bid. Top bidders must pay for their items at the conclusion of the auction before claiming the items or certificates. Cash, checks, MasterCard, and Visa are accepted. The auction cashiers will total all you have purchased, so you only pay once.

BUCKET ITEMS • • • • • •

There are over 15 bucket items this year, and they are displayed in the same room as the silent auction tables. Each bucket is for a specific item. For a chance at winning that item, place as many raffle tickets as you want into the buckets of the items you want. Raffle tickets will be for sale all evening – 3 for $5, 15 for $20, and 80 for $100. The drawing for the bucket items will take place after dinner. You must provide your claim ticket to collect your prize at the bucket table.

ABOUT TONIGHT’S PROCEDURES (2) GETTING YOUR WONDERFUL NEW THINGS HOME •

You are responsible for taking the items you purchased home with you the night of the event. If for some reason you cannot do that, you may pick your items up on Sunday, March 21, 2010, from 10 a.m. to Noon. Any item not claimed and picked up by March 29, 2010, will become the property of the Rotary Club of Lakewood.

GENERAL RULES OF THE SILENT/ORAL AUCTION AND RAFFLE • • • •

All purchases are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds unless otherwise noted. Most certificates must be claimed and used within one year of the auction unless otherwise noted. The Rotary Club of Lakewood reserves the right to add or withdraw without notice any items from the auction. Reservations for travel and accommodations must be arranged with the donor.

ABOUT TONIGHT’S PROCEDURES (3) GENERAL RULES (Continued) •

The Sportsman’s Dinner & Auction Committee of the Rotary Club of Lakewood has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered “as is.” The Rotary Club of Lakewood and the auction committee cannot and do not, warrant nor represent, and in no way shall be responsible for the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, or conditions of the items. The values listed are estimated values.

Each person bidding at the event assumes all risks and hazards related to the auction and items obtained at the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold the Rotary Club of Lakewood, its elected board members, auction committee, and the volunteers harmless from any liability.

All items must be removed from the Clover Park Technical College premises the evening of March 20, 2010. Arrangements for delivery are the responsibility of the purchaser.
