THE STUDIO DOOR

Noon - 7 PM Noon - 4 PM Closed

Most artists find it comfortable to be “in their head.” The often solitary nature of creating art requires the artist to be contemplative, focused and internal. This is great for the work but not typically, a boon for maneuvering today’s creative marketplace. Creatives are most often left on their own to navigate the confusing external world of sales, marketing and public engagement. In fact, I’ve seen many accomplished artists shy away from the bother of it all. For the working artist, The Studio Door can be an oasis. It’s a safe place to dream, create and take risks. A space for collaborative motivation. With the ongoing exchange of ideas and opportunities, I’m often reminded of hanging out in the university commons or the lobby of the hotel where a conference is taking place. There is something to be said about sharing a journey with others who walk the same path. One can’t help but appreciate the value in combined experiences from studio artists, artist instructors, exhibiting artists and artists as life-long learners. The impact is significant. If you wonder how that can be, make sure that you review the profiles of the studio artists at the end The Monthly. The accomplishments that these artists have achieved since they have opened themselves up to this experience is substantial. The variety of their achievements reveals the intricacies of the real life of a working artist. Its more complex than the general public assumes. With similar intent, our tent pole project 50 To Watch returns this month. This exhibition is also about bringing people together to celebrate the quality and diversity of art being created locally. It also has the added power of being collected in a national publication, which is mailed to 2,500 galleries. This artist catalog reveals to the outside world that San Diego’s living arts and culture community is quite significant. The six week exhibition will include an opening reception and a publication launch with the closing reception. Don’t miss the art, the artists or the camaraderie. Looking forward to see you soon at The Studio Door. Bring a friend and support the artists.

THE STUDIO DOOR ART TO MARKET

STUDIO ARTISTS In addition to all the cool programming at The Studio Door, the facility is home to ten artists working in the mediums of oil, acrylics, photography, fused glass and mixed media. The artists are independents who also enjoy sharing their inspirations, their struggles and their achievements. In this issue of The Monthly, we reflect back on the recent success each artist has had as they have gotten to know each other. As a community of like minded artists, it appears that ones success lifts up and inspires the next to reach father than one would have on their own. The Studio Artists work around the clock here at The Studio Door. Contact them to meet up with them in their studio or attend one of the gallery events to check out what they are working on. You can even pick up an original work of art for your home or office to start your own personal art collection. Nothing better than finding an artist you appreciate and being able to find them throughout the year.
