WELCOME BACK We’re excited to be able to welcome you through our doors again to experience live music, including our biggest ever Christmas programme in December and BBC Radio 3 Manchester Week in January. Our incredible programme has all sorts to choose from, with plenty of opportunities to come back and revisit old favourites or immerse yourself in something new with family and friends. Events include classical and chamber music, folk, jazz, stand-up comedy and our expanding family programme, ensuring live music experiences are available to all our audiences including little ones and their families. For weary Christmas shoppers in need of a little interlude of calm and peace, pop into our free lunchtime concerts to see emerging musical talent performing at 1.30pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during term time. Our Atrium Bar is open again too, with more product ranges for you to try from local suppliers who share our sustainable values. And throughout the festive season there’ll be mulled wine and mince pies available to enjoy. We’re working hard to make sure all of our audiences can experience live music together again safely and you can read all our additional safety measures on the next page. There’s so much to enjoy this season that we can’t fit it all into this guide, but we hope you can enjoy reading this snapshot and are inspired to head over to our website where full details of all the events are kept up to date. We hope to see you very soon!

LUNCHTIME CONCERTS From Monday 9 November Take a lunch break and enjoy free weekday afternoon recitals by some of the UK’s most exciting young musicians!

Recorded during lockdown and released in October 2021, Omar and Seckou’s second album SUBA is a hymn to hope, to a new dawn of kindness and real change in a postpandemic world, a visceral reiteration of humanity’s perennial prayer for peace and unity. Joining Omar and Seckou in the studio and for live performances is the inimitable Venezuelan percussionist Gustavo Ovalles.

Patricia Kopatchinskaja is one of the most exciting violinists on the planet right now with 5-star reviews from The Times and The Guardian, and The Times describing her as a ‘one-woman firework display’. Recently wowing The Proms with her fearless debut performance, Patricia is known for ruthlessly pushing classical music forward with emotion and energy, and we are incredibly excited to bring her to the North-West for the first time.

GOTHIC VOICES Friday 3 December 2021 Rounding off the 600th anniversary of Chetham’s, Gothic Voices will bring their medieval sounds to the magnificent Baronial Hall at Chetham’s, one of Manchester’s oldest buildings. The juxtaposition of old and new is also now a staple of the ensemble’s programmes and Gothic Voices enjoy exploring contemporary music, particularly pieces with medieval associations.

Sunday 28 November 2021

The Northern Chamber Orchestra’s Artist in Association, Chloë Hanslip, plays the Shostakovich violin sonata, composed in 1968 for David Oistrakh on his 60th birthday. Arranged for violin, strings and percussion by violinist Mikhail Zinman, it provides a typically powerful emotional journey.
