2 killed, dozens wounded at Baltimore party

WASHINGTON—At least two people were killed and 28 wounded in a mass shooting early Sunday in the US city of Baltimore, police said.

Police received multiple calls about a shooting just after 12:30 am Sunday (04:30 GMT) at a street party in the city's Brooklyn neighborhood in Maryland state, Acting Police Commissioner Rich Worley said during a press conference.

"Upon officers' arrival we located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds," Worley said.

One 18-year-old woman was found deceased at the scene, with a 20-year-old male victim also confirmed to have been killed, a police statement said.

The wounded victims were being treated at area hospitals, he added, with three of them in critical condition.

Worley said authorities were working to identify a suspect and determine a motive for the shooting.

"This is an extensive crime scene, our detectives are going to be here quite a while," he said.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, speaking to reporters at the crime scene, condemned the shooting. AFP (See full story online at manilastandard.net)

Cops: Photog’s shooting not work-related

By Rio N. Araja

THE Quezon City police on Sunday said the shooting incident of a photojournalist last week was not work-related.

“For now, I can really say this is not an attack on journalists,” QCPD District Director Nicolas Torre III said in a television interview.

"We already know where they started to be picked up by the surveillance, where the gunman started to position himself, what time, and even their escape route," he added.

The police said Rene Joshua Abiad, 37, a photojournalist of Remate, is currently recuperating, while two children who were inside the vehicle are still in the intensive care unit.

Abiad was with members of his family on board their silver Ford Everest along Corumi and Gazan streets in Barangay Masambong when a silver Toyota Vios blocked their path as they were about to enter their residence at 3:50 p.m. Thursday last week. (See full story online at manilastandard.net)

According to the SC, it issued the writ versus APMC, DENR, and MGB in a resolution dated June 13.

A writ of kalikasan is a legal remedy that protects the right of Filipinos to a “balanced and healthful ecology in accord with the rhythm and harmony of nature,” pursuant to Article II, Section 16 of the Philippine Constitution. Rio N. Araja (See full story online at manilastandard.net)

Twitter...

New unverified accounts would be limited to 500 tweets.

The decision was made "to address extreme levels of data scraping" and "system manipulation" by third-party platforms, Musk said in a tweet Saturday afternoon, as some users quickly hit their limits.

"Goodbye Twitter" was a trending topic in the United States following Musk's announcement.

Twitter's billionaire owner did not give a timeline for how long the measures would be in place.

The day before, Musk had announced that it would no longer be possible to read tweets on the site without an account.

Much of the data scraping was coming from firms using it to build their AI models, Musk said, to the point that it was causing traffic issues with the site.

To create AI that can respond in a human-like capacity, many companies feed the programs examples of real-life conversations from social media sites.
