What Are You Thankful For This Thanksgiving... Like many people this time of year, I am beginning to think about the things I’m thankful for. I am appreciative for many things but some of the things,I am most thankful for are: • My Faith- I am thankful that I know Jesus Christ as my Savior. I am also thankful for my church (International Worship Center), my pastor Eddie Tomberlin, my youth pastor David Thaxton, my drama team leader LaQuita Denson, our praise and drama teams and my Bible. • Love- I have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and pets that love me, and I love them too. Education- I am blessed to attend Coastal Middle School and be part of the International Baccalaureate program there. I have wonderful teachers, a wonderful principal, vice principals, and staff to help me learn. I also have an awesome bus driver, named Mr. Knight who makes sure we are safe and that we have fun on our way to and from school! • Basic Needs- Even though our economy is tough, all of my needs are met. My dad has a great job, I have food, clean drinking water, clothes and good healthcare. I know I am blessed to have these things because right now many people do not have their basic needs met. • U.S. Citizenship- I am proud to be an American! I’m thankful for all the freedoms that our government gives us. I am also proud for our president, and although he was not my personal choice, I support him. I am also happy that we have access to healthcare, with good doctors and nurses and medicines when I get sick. I also am grateful that we have a strong military. My Dad was in the Navy when I was born and many other members of my family have served too. The military men and women protect us and make sure we keep the freedoms we have. • Technology- I am thankful for electricity, television, movies, videogames, and computers. I enjoy being online and playing games and getting on Facebook and blogs. • Material Things- I’m thankful for my stuffed animals, toys, games, music, cell phones, etc. They are not necessities but they make life fun! As we enter the holiday season it is important to stop and think about what we are thankful for. Some families have traditions that remind them to count their blessings like making lists or crafts that name their blessings. Others take turns saying something they appreciate before the Thanksgiving meal. I found this poem that sort of sums up how we should feel on this special day: For flowers that bloom about our feet; For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet; For song of bird, and hum of bee; For all things fair we hear or see,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee! ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Marissa Peterson, Age 12 ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

I am thankful for thirty-eight years of blessed marriage, two great children and four precious grandchildren. I am also thankful for a good job, a nice house and wonderful friends. But most importantly, I am thankful that God is watching over me and my family and without Him, we would all be alone. Every day is a day to give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for the blessings he has bestowed on us all. Bill Boswell Rincon –––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I am thankful that I live in a land where I can read the Bible and pray in Church. Mrs. Mary Frawley Pooler –––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I am thankful for God’s son, Jesus, who died on the cross for my sins. I am thankful to be living in America where God rules. I am thankful for my husband (Tim), pooch (Precious), family, friends and church family. Holiday’s are sad for me now since my dad (Andrew), mom (Juanita), and brother (James) Brummett are gone to be with their Lord. I am thankful for all of God’s blessings upon my life. I have a nice home, car, and food on my table. I feel like I am truly blessed each and every day. I would like to end with: GOD BLESS AMERICA! Virginia Griffin Rincon –––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I am most thankful for God. He is always with me. He helps me to keep on going. I am blessed by having 3 healthy children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 6 grandsons. I am thankful for all of my family (aunts and cousins), included. I am thankful for all the veterans and their families. Also, for all of our troops now and their families. I am thankful for my home, my car, food, clothes, sun, moon, stars and even the rain. I am thankful to be able to hear, see, walk and talk. I am thankful for my doctors and their staff. I am thankful for our churches and the freedom to worship. I am thankful for the Spirit Newspaper and all the great people that work there. Keep up your great work. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Marshie Proctor Rincon –––––––––––––––––––––––––––– What I Am Thankful For? I am thankful for so many things that it is difficult to know where to start, but I will start at the beginning. I am thankful for God allowing me to be born to the best MOM in the whole world and to a Father who never walked away from his responsibilities. For growing up a Navy brat, thus seeing the wonder of different places and peoples - I thank you, Lord. For not losing my mother as a child - I thank you, Lord. For two loving, intelligent, well-adjusted sons - I thank you, Lord. For my husband, who stands beside me through thick and thin, loving me despite my faults - I thank you, Lord. For my church family who

has welcomed me with open arms - I thank you, Lord. For the privilege of sharing with and caring for people who are ill - I thank you, Lord. For the privilege of being an American - I thank you, Lord. Last, but not least, thank you, Lord, for dying for me, because of your love and saving me by your grace.

I’m thankful for B.R., who gave me a daughter, a girl named after her grandfather. She and Steve are serving God and are filled with “The Spirit.” Daughter, sister, Mama and Nan, can everyone hear it? I’m thankful for Bill, for giving me “Billy”, the Cumberland mountains where it’s really ‘hilly’. Beautiful Billy grew up very strong, and became a carpenter before too long. November 9, 2009, God took him away to be with Him until judgement day. I’m thankful for the 42 years God let him stay, I wasn’t alone ‘til He took him away. He left behind him Adrienne and “baby Cole”, I’m thankful for them, they are not very old. I’m thankful for Don (Dad) and Michigan, before too long he gave me my twins, Lacy and Lee. Lacy is in Germany serving our shores ... from sea to shining sea. She’s flying really high now in the United States Air Force. Lee is my prodigal, always wandering our land, but he’s back close to home and I welcome him in. I’m thankful for Lyric, she’s truly a song. She’s having a baby before too long. Landon is working with “The Spirit” and being a great Mom, while Allary is in the U.S. Army strong. I’m thankful for our country, “One nation under God”, and for all of God’s blessings where our ancestors have trod. Yes, we are a patriotic family, that’s our third priority after God, kin-folk and church. Cheyenne is pretty and only thirteen, we love her and miss her, over the miles in between. I’m thankful too, for Morgan Shae, in the Air Force in Germany, she’s so far away. But she’s our ‘firecracker’ girl, Independence Day, on the 4th of July, God sent her our way. I’m thankful for Braydon Lee, who is built like a truck, a dadlooking guy, Rich sure has a lot of luck. He works for NATO, has Lacy, Morgan Shae and Braydon, he’s protecting them all, plus all of us ... yes, he is laden. With a lot of responsibility, but he is not complaining. Barry, AKA “Ande” ... AKA “Little Bear”, is truly a blessing. He sweeps and cleans up from his eating and messing. “Baby Cole”, Papa Billy’s only grandchild, is safe with his Mother, back in Papa’s beloved mountains and hills, he loved like no other place. Thank you, dear Father, for your mercy and grace. I’m thankful for Jesus, the Master Carpenter, who died on a tree, and bought salvation with his blood, for lost souls like me. Thank you Father, thank you Son, thank you Holy Spirit, I love all three who are One.
