MERRY CHRISTMAS! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us... Merry Christmas! Two thousand years ago angels proclaimed to the shepherds in Bethlehem: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of goodwill!” God has entered the world; God has entered human history; He has come to save us from darkness, from sin, from death itself. The angels go on, “Today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” Jesus is our Messiah, the deliverer of His chosen ones from evil, the Savior of the world. Yet this Messiah and King who was destined to be our redeemer and Lord wasn’t born in a palace. He was born in poverty and laid in a manger, where farm animals ate. On Christmas, God shows just how far His love will go; He comes to us in complete vulnerability—as a defenseless infant. As Jesus’ death on the cross will eventually demonstrate, God does not hold himself back from any part of our human experience. Today we celebrate God’s shocking love. Even though we have sinned and deserve punishment, God has given the human race a second chance. More than that, He has shown that He wants to be a part of our lives. So make God a part of your life! Not just today on Christmas, but every day. Let him in, even in the darkest parts of your life! Let the Christ child be born for you!
