NORTH MIDDLETON TWP. — Fo r Tow n s h i p M a n a ge r Deborah Ealer, North M iddleton Township has a number of features that make it a quality community in which to live. A good police force, road crews that keep the roadways safe all year and services provided by the township were just a few examples she gave. She said the parks in the township are what make it special. “We sponsor baseball leagues, and the fields are always full,” Ealer said. “We never have any open fields for other organizations to come in and use.” The township has three parks. Creek View Park, located at 2309 Douglas Drive, is a 10-acre park. It features a small pavilion, a playground area, a multipurpose field and a gravel walking trail. Another park is the North Middleton Park, located at 1701 Waggoners Gap Road. The 15.5-acre park features three large pavilions, a boat ramp and two softball fields. It also features two playground areas, horseshoe pits and a volleyball area. Village Park, at 1830 Suncrest Drive & 400 Fern Ave., is the largest park at 44.5 acres. The park has several pavilions available, one of which was constructed in 2008 with new playground equipment. Some of the features of the park include a football field with two goal posts, a volleyball area and a horseshoe pit. Ealer said traffic in the township increases due to car shows. She also mentioned a traffic detour due to a bridge being reconstructed on Longs Gap Road. That detour, she said, adds traffic to Creek and Spring roads.

Question: We are purchasing a spec home in Florida. We had a realtor helping us look at homes. However, on our own, we found a spec home that was in the process of being built. The realtor never showed us that house (Not sure why because it was exactly what we were looking for) I wanted to make sure he knew that we were going to finish a house being built and that we found it on our own. He was very angry that we did not mention his name so that he could get a co-broker fee. Why would he feel like he should get a cut when he did nothing in finding this home. He did know about this home being built because he mentioned it to us in his unhappy email. Also, shortly before that we put an offer on another home to which we lost to another buyer and we feel like he didn’t act as aggressively as he should which resulted in the loss. He found out that this home could be rented weekly vs. monthly and no one knew so that realtor gave him a finders fee for the house we lost. I feel like we do not owe him anything morally or legally. He got paid a fee on the house we lost and he did nothing for us after the loss. We did not look at any other houses after that. We found the spec home on our own. Answer: Agency agreements can be tricky for all parties involved and are one of the sources of lawsuits in my state. That’s the reason I feel, that all business relationships should have con-

Answer: Typically, if a listing agreement expires, there is no obligation to the broker. However, if the showing is for a client that has already seen the property before, or if the showing is as a result of the previous listing, there may be something owed. I would be surprised if an agent showed a property without some sort of compensation discussion before the showing. You have an agent who is bringing you a buyer, and if the goal is to sell your home, then have the discussion about what would be owed prior to any showings. It is always best to clear things up before they get messy.

Few phrases can strike fear into a homeowner’s heart as powerfully as the words “you have a mold problem.” Mold troubles in your home can cause health troubles for your family, and both issues can be notoriously difficult to resolve. It occurs everywhere in nature, but when mold begins growing indoors, it can damage any surface it grows on and cause respiratory problems for those living in the affected house. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that mold can cause reactions that range from mild (stuffy nose, itchy eyes or skin irritation) to severe (fever, shortness of breath and chronic lung ailments). In extreme cases, the mold can even infect a person’s lungs. Studies have also suggested a link between mold exposure and the development of asthma in young children, the CDC notes.

Mold and moisture So what causes mold to take root in your home? In a word: moisture. Mold spores are everywhere, and when they land on a wet or damp surface they can begin to grow. That means mold tends to grow in areas of your home that are more humid, such as in the bathroom, a below-grade room, the kitchen or garage. Mold can also grow in hidden places, such as between walls where a water leak has occurred and gone undetected for some time. “The key to mold control is moisture control,” the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says on its website. The EPA says you should clean up mold right away and eliminate the source of moisture that allowed the mold to grow.

But until the arrival of wireless technology, you would have needed a really long extension cord and a super-long cable connection (or rabbit ears) to do it. And rain would have ruined your fun in more ways than one. Now, wireless technology and a host of advances in how digital devices are manufactured and function have made it much easier to enjoy electronic entertainment in the great outdoors. Versatile technology could be part of what’s driving the growth in outdoor digital entertainment. Installations of outdoor entertainment systems doubled from 2010 to 2011 (the most recent numbers available), and the average project cost nearly $8,000, according to the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA). Adding sound and audio systems is a great way to liven up outdoor kitchens and living spaces, patios and even screened porches. If you’re looking to outfit your outdoor spaces with the latest in digital fun, here are a few ideas to get you started: • Adding high quality sound to your deck or patio is as easy as upgrading your home audio system. Modern systems allow you to wirelessly transmit sound (either music or audio from the TV) throughout your home. Bringing that sound outside requires a wireless setup and incorporating outdoor-ready speakers into your existing sound system. Sensitive system parts, like the radio tuner or CD player reside safely indoors and the wireless function transmits the sound outside to weather-resistant speakers. • No more super-long extension cords and wheeling the TV in and out of the house. weather resistant, it pays to protect them from the elements as much as possible. Consider adding an awning to your outdoor living space and outfitting it with an automatic rain sensor. Motorized retractable awnings that have these sensors will open to shield your outdoor living space when it begins to rain - even if you’re not home at the time.
