Great Bay EMS Continued from Page 60 it,” Foglia said. “It appeared to be a problem, and my responsibility is to the residents of the borough of Tuckerton. The police chief came in with a problem, a situation that they thought was (a) safety issue, and we needed to address it. I’m not pointing fingers at anyone or placing blame on anyone; I want to get the answers and find out if there is a problem and that it gets fixed. I need to know we have answers to the questions, and we need to sit down and have a round table.” Councilwoman Sue Marshall asked why Gentless had not communicated to the borough that he would not attend the July 5 special meeting, and he said he had told the mayor and council president he had to work. Continued from Page 48 the 505 World Championships in La Rochelle, France. There with Macy Nelson, his skipper of five years, Barclay sailed against some of the world’s most talented sailors and finished quite well, placing 22nd out of 200 boats. “We sailed against professional sailors and former Olympic medalists, but Macy and I stayed confident,” recounted Barclay. “It was great to sail side by side with them, and even give them a run for their money. There was also a high level of camaraderie. We were able to talk with some of the world’s greatest sailors in a social setting.” Sailing 505s out of the harbor is an accomplishment in and of itself, according to Barclay. The dinghy, named for its length in meters (5.05), is a high-performance, two-person dinghy, with a spinnaker and trapeze. Sailed internationally in 18 countries, 505s are highly adaptable: With a tightly controlled hull shape and sail plan and an open rigging, the boats can be set to the sailor’s specific needs. Therefore, sailors are constantly tweaking and changing settings throughout the boat. “The fact that there are so many ways to sail a 505 creates an understanding between sailors of the boat,” noted Barclay. “It fosters teamwork between competitors and we learn from each other.” Upon returning from La Rochelle, Barclay was eager to share tales from his journey, portraying the ancient port town with its many castles and ships. He was already back to business, though, as all of his stories contained a sailing lesson to be learned. And that is all Barclay wants from his students: to learn. “They choose how far they want to take their sailing,” explained Barclay. “We teach them the fundamental skills to let them be Olympians or day sailors.” And so, as the sailing season is drawing towards the finish line, Barclay and all at SBYC are excited to compete in the final two interclubs of the 2012 LBIYRA series at Barnegat Light Yacht Club and Brant Beach Yacht Club in the coming weeks. Regardless of the outcome, though, the junior sailors have experienced something new this summer. Barclay has supplied the foundation; now it is up to them. — Ryan Geary
