EMERALD AND SAPPHIRE HOUSE SOCIAL

A

fter an exciting and hectic week long trek we came back to school all geared up to start preparing for the Emerald and Sapphire house social in full spirit. This years’ house social was titled ‘Variete’and going by the meaning the evening truly show-cased a variety of programmes ranging from rock music to Indian classical music to soft English, Korean and Thai music. Besides this, there were dance numbers performed by different age groups and various genre of music and a Hindi skit which conveyed the message of ‘the futility of believing in superstitions’. After the cultural program the students of Emerald and Sapphire House had a rocking dance party followed by a special delicious dinner. All the hard work put in by the students contributed to making this cultural night a great success. The 20th October was truly a memorable day for all the glittering jewels of Emerald and Sapphire. BADMINTON CAMP

T

he Sagar School had organized a Badminton Camp which was held from 21st to 28th October, 2007. The coach who came to teach badminton to the students was Mr. Ranvir Singh. He has been the State Champion in Badminton for Rajasthan. It was an exciting, although a tiring experience, because we learned a lot of new techniques and moves. The students were divided into three categories according to their standard in badminton namely: Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. The Beginners had to come around 3.30 p.m. in the evening; the Intermediate group had to come at 5.45 a.m. in the morning, whereas the Advanced Group had to come at 4.30 p.m. in the evening. The students participating in the camp gained a great deal of knowledge about how to cover the court during a match, wrist movements for different strokes and the like. On the last day, there were matches held within the categories and the winners declared. I participated in the camp in the Intermediate group and I think that this really improved my standard in badminton and am sure the other students also felt the same. Anshay Sardana Class IX

SOCCER MATCHES

O

n 21st October, 16 members of The Sagar School football team represented the school against Alwar Public School. We left the school on 21st accompanied by our coach Mr. Y. S. Kanyal. The match commenced at about 8:30 a.m. It was anyone's game for the first 10 minutes but then our team took the lead. Lovesh Yadav opened the scoring with a drive past the goalkeeper. Alwar Public School soon equalized. Our striker Ahn Min Chul then doubled the score to 2-1. He then went on to score a brilliant hat trick and we lead 4-1 till half time. In the second half, APS showed their resilience and made it 4-2. The same score line stayed till the end and we won 4-2. Our second friendly fixture in football this year was against DPS R. K. Puram football team. This time we were also accompanied by our Principal and the whole of Class XII. We left in the morning of 27th October at 11 o'clock and our match began at 4 p.m. in the evening. DPS took the lead after we committed a foul and they were awarded a penalty. Ahn Min Chul soon equalized the score to make it 1-1. DPS made it 2-1 before half time, after their defender put a fierce long range effort into the net. The second half unfolded with more drama. Our Captain, Amnuaichai equalized for the second time in the game to make it 2-2. Then another penalty was given to DPS. They scored the penalty despite Siddhartha Bothra's best efforts to save it. The score then was 3-2 in their favour. Unfortunately for us, both our strikers were injured. DPS capitalized on our defensive mistakes and scored 2 more goals before the final whistle. We lost 5-2. Both matches provided great exposure for our future football players and it was overall a great experience.

THE GREAT CROSS COUNTRY RACE

T

he day of 28th October was not like all those normal Sundays. We did not relax in our hostel as always. Instead we were all in our sports dress experiencing the chill of winter. We were cold outside but warm deep inside; we were as hot as lava coming out of a volcano, out of nervousness and the physical exercise of course. And if we talk about the route, it would be like talking about walking in a desert. The route actually passed through a summary of the rough side of Rajasthan. The good part was the cheering attitude of the villagers which helped us through the tiring run. After the cheering up of all those people, mostly strangers we felt good; TIRED seemed like an endless word. What I can conclude from all this is - life is a run so get set, go!!!

hildren’s day was celebrated on 14th November. The school enjoyed a day full of fun and frolic. There was a great effort put up by the teachers. We had a combined assembly in the morning in which and Dr. K. J. Jose, our Principal and Dr. Kevin Dillow enlightened us about the day. It was very interesting to hear what the teachers wanted to convey. After the assembly we had our classes. The teachers warmly wished us “Greetings for Children’s Day”. They told us more about Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. They also told us about his likes and dislikes. By 4:15 p.m. in the evening, all of us had moved to the soccer field where we had lots of fun games with gifts as incentives like Tug of war, Marram-Patti, Spoon and Lemon race, Balloon Bursting, Relay the Ball, Brick Race and Group Making, all of which were very exciting. In the evening at 6.15 p.m., we were shown a recent and excellent movie of James Bond ‘Casino Royale’ starring Daniel Craig. The day was indeed memorable, packed with work as well as excitement.

his is the fourth movie in the famous Harry Potter series. Harry enters his fourth year of his wizard's life at Hogwarts' School of witchcraft and wizardry. The story starts with a horrific dream that Harry has in which he sees Lord Voldermort up and alive. Harry along with his friends Ron and Hermionie witness the 422nd Quidditch World Cup. The people at the world cup are shocked and scared to see the dark mark which is a clear indicator of Lord Voldermort's return. Then he wanted to teach a bird But the bird couldn’t speak a single word Then he knocked a Tiger’s door But the Tiger was in a mood to roar. Then he thought to teach the grass But the grass was in a big mass Then he went to teach a bear But he would always be in a big fear.
