WHY WALK IN HER SHOES ? ®
• 51% of Canadian women have experienced physical or sexual violence and abuse(Canadian Women’s Foundation) • 75% of Canadian men feel that it is important that men speak out about violence against women (Men’s Perceptions about Violence Against Women, Pollara, 2005)
• Violence towards women & men affects us all, and costs Canadians $4.2 billion annually (Walk a Mile Toronto) • Only 6-8% of sexual assaults are reported (LSAIC) • Majority of Canadian men feel that men are not doing enough to address the problem of violence against women in Canada (Addressing Violence Against Women, Environics, 2002)
• The Lloydminster Sexual Assault and Information Centre is a non-profit organization, that is looking to create a voice for those that have been affected by sexual assault and create education and awareness surrounding sexual violence
LSAIC Mission Our role is to provide violence prevention, education, support and crisis intervention services. We work closely with community organizations to deliver the best possible services in a responsive, flexible and professional manner.
Vision We strive to foster change within our community by creating sensitivity, knowledge and skills to respond to the needs of the children, youth, adults and families coping with the trauma of sexual abuse, sexual assault, family violence and bullying.
Goals To develop and deliver a broad range of programs and services addressing the impact and risk factors associated with sexual abuse, sexual assault, and violence. Be dedicated to addressing sexual abuse, sexual assault and related violence. To administer an effective, efficient and accountable agency by delivering services and supports in a responsive, flexible and professional manner. To network and liaise throughout communities to create an awareness of the impact of sexual abuse, sexual assault and violence. To create within communities the sensitivity, knowledge and skills to be responsive to the needs of individuals and families impacted by sexual abuse, sexual assault and violence.
