“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrowmindedness." — Mark Twain In the face of a globalizing world, many of us fear that our communities will become less safe, less prosperous and less morally sound. We teach our children to be kind and open-hearted. However, we are challenged with a society that often does not exemplify those values and rarely slows down enough to reinforce them. At The Road Less Traveled and at Geography of Hope, we strive to provide opportunities for young people to step away and explore places and people that are different. We believe that facing our fear of the unknown and actively engaging with the world deepens our understanding of others and cultivates openmindedness.

Participants who travel with us witness, discuss and learn compassion and empathy. They enter into communities and cultures different from their own. They develop cross-cultural relationships that remind all of us about the importance of appreciating differences and being a responsible global citizen.

We fundamentally believe that travel with responsible service work can be life-changing.

We also know that venturing off to new lands can be challenging and confusing. Our highly trained and experienced leaders help participants process these new experiences and the accompanying emotions. We prepare participants to return to their communities bringing with them a deeper understanding of themselves and a richer perspective of the world.

Mark Twain once said, “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” We work hard every day to ensure that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to experience travel. We have seen its positive effects and we are committed to providing global perspectives to young people

Thank you for being part of our story. Warmly, The Road Less Traveled Family
