PORTAGE DES SIOUX WELCOMES ANNUAL VISITORS
Farmer’s Fiberglass Repair
Fall and winter bring more visitors to Portage Des Sioux than warm weather ever will. Some drive in but the large majority, fly in. Those that fly in, range from the majestic and mighty to the small and humble. Our most numerous guests are our feathered friends. Eagles come to fish on the ice and sun themselves in trees along the Mississippi River and its sloughs. They attract bird watchers from a wide bi-state area. Few of the world's people can watch them from their homes as some do in Portage Des Sioux.

Seagulls are now cleaning up the shad that die off this time of year in the boat harbors. They Canadian Geese often carry the rotting fish onto boats to eat them and leave a carcass and a mess in the process. The largest bird to visit is the trumpeter swan, sometimes reported by local birdwatchers.
