54. Very Rare Neapolitan Portrait Gentleman in Velvet Suit Attributed to Sanmartino 23" (58 cm.) Polychromed earthenware shoulderhead turned to the side, angular facial shape with strong aristocratic features, enamel eyes, slightly-parted lips, teeth, sculpted ears, black sculpted hair with singular cluster of curls at center forehead, tousled curls at sides and back, closelycropped beard with shadow stubble, towwrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, bare legs with original cobbled leather shoes and fitted leather buttoned leggings, wearing blue/ cream striped velvet gentleman's suit, plaid velvet vest, lace trimmed shirt, silk sash and tie. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, mid1700s, attributed to Giuseppe Sanmartino, considered the most notable of the known 18th century sculptors whose works included presepio figures. $3800/5200

55. Neapolitan Brown Horse with Homespun Saddle and Embroidered Harness 18" (46 cm.) l. 15"h. Brown horse with welldeveloped musculature detail, well-detailed deeply-sculpted black mane and tail, upright ears, enamel eyes, hand-stitched homespun padded saddle with leather braces and straps, leather harness with embroidered silk ribbon panels. Excellent condition, original finish with some light craquelure on nose bridge and one leg. Neapolitan, mid-1700s. $1600/1900
