MARCH!2016! volume!24! !

Chantel Atkins (CEO/Owner) I started The Rhythmic Lounge in December 2010. At its start, it was a fairly simple website with the purpose of giving people a place to promote their talents and network. I had no idea that less than two years later it would transform into something much bigger. The website then underwent a complete revamp in July 2011, with a brand new look and the addition of many new features, including the creation of The Rhythmic Lounge Radio. Following suit, the radio started out as merely a 24/7 stream of hand-picked music submitted by talented musicians from the website but is now an integral part of the company. Listeners from all over the world tune in regularly to hear the wide variety of music, as well as the educational, musical and talk-radio shows that we now host. The radio’s success has only made me realize The Rhythmic Lounge could take me in new directions everyday rather than the other way around, which is why a digital magazine seemed like the next step. I’m incredibly proud to present to you hardworking artists and entertainers in this magazine and on the site, so enjoy! Be sure to go to www.therhythm iclounge.com to see the profiles for the great talent displayed in this issue and take a look at our new magazine site at http://w w w .trlm agazine.com Thanks for the support, and happy reading!

Woody & The Woodtones

Tampa, Florida

Woody & The WoodTones are a three to four piece Blues act with a DIFFERENCE! WOODY BUILDS THE INSTRUMENTS HE PLAYS ON STAGE!! Former DOUBLE THREAT, DIAMOND GRAY, KENNY MCGEE & LEFTY and THE QUIVERING RHYTHM HOUNDS members make this band an instant fan favorite. These professionals have some great original & cover tunes. As an opening act or the headliner, Woody & The WoodTones are a fun group of guys, Easy going, with almost 75 years of stage experience, you can trust them to play a great show! They have performed at many festivals like the COTTEE RIVER SEAFOOD & BLUES FESTIVAL and cool venues like GATORZ in Port Charlotte and SKIPPER'S SMOKEHOUSE in Tampa. Crazy tunes like JOANNE about a barmaid they know to DRINK AND PLAY THE BLUES, sort of their mantra. SPICE OF LIFE and BABY GONE BLUES. They even wrote a tune about how the guitars came into being called THE BALLAD OF WOODY WOODCASTERS. For booking info and available dates and fees please feel free to contact Woody at (813) 961-3704 The Rhythmic Lounge: Where did the name “Woody & The WoodTones come from? Woody &The WoodTones: Once we started building Woody Woodcasters Guitars back in 2005 we needed some sort of vehicle to show them off. A band was formed and cover tunes were learned. After a while, Randy and Craig started writing originals, and they were good. Since the guitars have superior sound and tones it sort of named itself. Members include Mike Edell on Bass, Keyboards and vocals, John Strickland on Drums and vocals and myself on guitar and vocals. Our debut CD "LIVE At The Springs Theater" is heard on radio and Internet across the country and in more than 24 countries around the globe! TRL: Please describe the style of music that you play W&TW: HOT Florida Slideabilly! It's a mix of Florida Rockgrass (a combination of bluegrass and classic rock) and that rockin midnight Texas radio sound. We even drop some new country vibe in there. Of course you don't get many gigs around these parts without playing some classic rock too, but we try and play stuff other bands don't or can't.

TRL: Woody & The WoodTones is not your average band. Please tell the readers what sets the band apart from others and how that unique specialty came about? W&TW: Well for starters Woody & The WoodTones is not a static act. We have old members like Craig Spence our original bass player that joins us at gigs if the venue wants a larger band. Since our present bass player plays keyboards too, he moves over to the Hammond Organ when Craig joins us. We also have a few guitarists that join the roster as well. Jon Stephan owner of The Springs Theater and recording studio and Wayne Morgan for Boston. I build the one-of-a-kind custom guitars I play on stage. You certainly won't see many mass-produced instruments on my side of the stage. I've been known to sell the guitar right off my back if an audience member has the cash.

TRL: For those interested in one of your custom guitars, how can they go about starting the process? W&TW: First, decide what you want your instrument to do. Then pick up the phone and call me at (813) 961-3704 between 10AM and 10PM EST or email me at WoodyWoodcasters@Hotmail.Com. We'll have a talk and finalize all the woods, pickup choices, woods for the pick guard, knobs, tuners, everything about the instrument parameters YOU want. Then a price is agreed upon and 50% of the total is required as a deposit before work begins.

TRL: Are there any upcoming projects or events that you’d like to mention? W&TW: Yes! We're working towards getting on the festival circuit! We believe there's no stage too large, no fee too large to play. We can travel at a moments notice, and enjoy playing our brand of music to people everywhere they'll listen. There are more originals to record, we have another two albums worth of originals ready to go!

NOT ONLY STREET RECORDING ARTIST

Prince Q. Tate aka Audii was born January 5th 1993 in Anderson Indiana. Audii got his first taste of music when he was seven years young as he started playing the drums back as a youngster. Growing up in Indiana Audii sparks the memory of his parents played music around the home while listening to such old school artists such as Al Green, The Isley Brothers and many other mainstream soul artists. As Audii grew older he migrated around other upcoming musical artists and it's just love they I seen the create art forms using instrumentations and rhythmic vocals. Personally Audii just loves the infusion of harmonic melodies and can just about catch any melody off most any tune.

“HIGH AS THE CEILING

By the year 2011 Audii decided to take a shot at creating music himself at first beginning he really didn't understand the concept very much. Audii went back to working a job and living life and as time cruised by; has gone through many trials and tribulations to a depth that he can now express himself through his music so he started back writing music and began to really love it with a passion. Now back in the booth inspired and just plain ready to take his music to the next level and continue to grow.

Marion'Forget' ' Ontario, Canada

My dad who was a draftsman, had an unique and inspiring way to channel the energies of a hyper little girl, he would hand me a huge piece of drawing paper and some pencils so i could draw while he worked on his current project. Since, i cannot remember a time without a pad or lose paper and pencil as my constant companion. Though i did not have any formal art instruction until high school. I was exposed to arts with books and material and crafts, with my mom who designed and made craft ideas from mini Santa's to fancy embroideries. The art and creativity was a big part of my childhood. After starting another art course, the demands and rewards of motherhood saw to it that it was put on the back burner but always simmering. When i wasn't doing art, i was always doing some kind of creative activity from model building to crochet, designing my own patterns. in time, when circumstance allowed, i went back to school. One diploma at Academy of Learning for Pc Support Specialist, then the second at Niagara College For Graphic Fundamentals And Fine Arts. My influences range from Neolithic to 19th century impressionist art on up to present day. You will see i have taken to the impressionist period and can see the influences in many pieces of my work. Little incidents in just living an ordinary life spark a creative drive to a new painting or piece that emerges from that speck of inspiration. The past 4-5 years has been both a blossoming of output on a mooded commercial success. The critical acclaim spurs my creative drive to continuously push back the boundaries of my art. I cannot know where my art will take me but i do aspire to exhibit in places like Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver as well as stepping out of Canada to enter the international art world with a first stop to New York City. My ultimate goal is to become an internationally known artist. Marion was also recently chosen to be included in the Norman Felix Gallery… “Norman Felix Gallery is an independent art gallery located at 445 Adelaide Street. Founded in 2006, Norman Felix Gallery has steadily expanded to represent a variety of over 100 talented Canadian artists. We offer an array of contemporary paintings, photographs, illustrations, and sculptures by both emerging and established independent artists. Our collective showcasing program is ground breaking and focused on Canadian Artist.” For commission, contact me at mar_forget@yahoo.ca website http://mydesignsstudio.com facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/My-Designs-by-mar/243157785736691 linkedin http://ca.linkedin.com/pub/marion-forget/43/17b/906 twitter https://twitter.com/mar_forget google plus https://plus.google.com/107126130074203501293

CR Capers

by Ross Guity

CR Capers wears a assortment of hats nowadays serving as the founder and CEO of Revolution Media - as well as being a host and producer of her uniquely enlightening radio show/podcast 'Why You Mad, Son?' and also putting in work as an independent film director, producer and writer - just to name a few. But it's the amazing new role as the founder of the Hip-Hop Film Festival which is set to debut in early August 2016 in her hometown of Harlem, New York City that not only has CR super-amped-up, but for passionate, aspiring, talented and 'under-the-radar' filmmakers who love, live and breathe the lifestyle and culture of Hip-Hop as well. 'Having the opportunity to showcase films that represents the "unheard voices" and for me to be the conduit for something like this is both exciting and humbling for me.' said Capers during our recent phone chat. 'I find that when you love the Hip-Hop culture in any type of way, it has a sweet way of telling a story. It has a flavor to it that cannot be mimicked - just like Hip-Hop itself.' Pioneering 'Video Music Box' founder and VJ 'Uncle' Ralph McDaniels - a long-time friend and mentor of Capers, will serve as the festival's chairman. And the awesome part of the Hip-Hop Film Festival? It will be one-of-a-kind in that it intends to give the power back to the filmmaker by way of providing financial support to each and every creative that participates during the period of Wednesday, August 3 through Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the National Black Theatre. 'Hip-Hop is not just about the music - it's an education, a culture, a way of life, and universal.' added Capers. This groundbreaking event I must say is a definite 'mustattend' deal this summer! For more information on the inaugural Hip-Hop Film Festival, log on to www.HipHopFilmFestivalNYC.com and www.instagram.com/HipHopFestNYC. To also learn more about CR Capers and her other projects, browse through www.MBSFilmHouse.com and her radio show link www.WhyYouMadSon.com; www.twitter.com/WhyYouMadSon *Kudos to CR's publicist Monica Alexander of PR Wizzzz Entertainment out in Los Angeles, California for blessing me with the opportunity to interview her amazing client!

Brace Chyld Brace Chyld, known to many as Michael Bracy, is a refreshing addition to the independent hip-hop music community. Born in St. Louis Missouri, he moved to Columbus, Ohio at age five and was exposed to the artistry of music soon after. Inspired by some of music's greatest artists and performers like Earth, Wind, and Fire, Prince, Curtis Mayfield, and the Time, Brace Chyld has a classic sound. His lyrical excellence offers an insanely unique confidence not found in hip-hop today. He affords his introduction and ethic to none other than his stepfather, The Master Rusty James, who worked in and knew the music business very well. Through him, Michael was exposed to all genres of old school music. Being surrounded by performers and musicians alike strongly influenced and helped him find his passion for music, thus became the artist Brace Chyld. When asked the difference between Michael Bracy day to day, and Brace Chyld, the artist, he replies simply saying, none. His growing and learning are prime ingredients to his relative expression. His quality and standard are rated second to none. Brace Chyld speaks his honesty; complimentary to any artist or producer his has worked with. His vocal styling to some seem similar to Snoop Dogg. He believes his style is closer KRS-1 or X-Clan, but Brace Chyld stands alone all in the same. Brace Chyld is a true artist. He is currently collaborating with FaithWalk Entertainment, while a partner of F. Dat Entertainment, an up and coming music production and videography company soon to well known across the U.S. and worldwide. He looks forward to working closely with other independent and underground artists in the near future. Michael aspires to do and be greater things in is life and career. MC#Fade!! Rapper, Singer, Writer, Composer and Producer.... Now let's tell you his story. Born in Canberra, Australia Albert "MC Fade" A-Yeboah is a Rapper, Singer, Writer, Composer and Producer. Since coming up with his first song at 3 years of age, which his mother wrote down for him at the time and he later edited, Albert "MC Fade" A-Yeboah has always demonstrated his ability to perform and demonstrate an embracing passion for originality with music. Like a lot of people MC Fade has seen and been through his fair share of struggle during his teens and early adult hood. Albert “MC Fade” A-Yeboah has been involved in the Australian Music street scene since the late 90's. He was barely a teen, yet he was battling at venues like the green room and doing the rap crew thing in a crew named DMU (Daddy Mac's United). DMU performed many live performances including the opening night for clubs such as "Diablos" Canberra City, Australia and "Club Habana" in Canberra, within Australia's prestigious location of Manuka. In 2003, MC Fade developed a passion for composing his own backing tracks, then he coupled this then emerging ability with his ambitious talent for music production. MC Fade later concreted these talents by building an engineering studio on the north side of Canberra, Australia, and he followed that with establishing a recording studio on the south side of Canberra in 2004 Phat Track Entertainment. In November 2004, PTE street released MC Fade's full length, self produced album The South Side Kid. The South Side Kid also featured hot known current Canberra talents, DJ Eldred “KOF” (his brother) and Franky “DJ Offtapia”, and went on to sell thousands copies on the streets of our sun burnt country, coast to coast, and thanks to some members of the Royal Australian Navy, islands in the South Pacific (undisclosed locations). The South Side Kid album was re-released commercially in 2010. Promoting the before mentioned album "The South Side Kid", MC Fade also appeared as the male presenter in PRIME Television's Race For Cash Challenge, as well as other features, like the award nominated short film GAMEOVER with Australian known radio presenter Chris from 104.7 Canberra FM and directed by well known Director Warren Coulton. In 2012 MC Fade guest appeared Aussie talents Danni-T, DJ Cuddlez and The Outlawz (US) formally known as Tupac & The Outlawz on his "New Order" album (LP) that was released in April 2013. In 2015 Albert "MC Fade" A-Yeboah dropped "I Came Here" which was the first single from his upcoming Album "How Many" due in 2016. This Single has build a lot of attention and has set a new expectation for his next Single coming soon "Feature Verse". Growing up MC Fade was encouraged by Australian Artists "Turntable Treachery", DJ Gold Finger, Weapon X and Terry Hopper. MC Fade's style was influenced by American Artists such as Naughty By Nature, Warren G, Richie Rich and Tupac Shakur. Considering MC Fade lived in Edmonton Alberta Canada for six and a half years and The United States of America for eighteen months, it is easy to see how. His credits also include being a support act for rapper Chingy, the creation of the theme song and numerous backing tracks (for the current and previous seasons back until 2005) for the globally aired, and not to mention UK loved, television travel show EarthWalkers, finalist for Producer/Engineer of the year at the MusicACT's 2012 "MAMA" Awards, and in the 2013 MusicACT "MAMA" Awards he was Nominated for Producer/Engineer/Studio of the year and was a finalist in the category of Best Urban Artist of the Year. MC Fade's proposed first single off his "New Order" album landed a placement on GrindCity/Young Money's "Young Money Unsigned Hype Vol 4". MC Fade is " The Akademia Music Awards" December 2015 winner for BEST SONG Hip-Hop/R&B. Constantly expanding all his talents and backed by the formidable PTE team, MC Fade continues to deliver a standard of music and production rarely witnessed in today's industry.! http://mcfademusic.com/ https://www.facebook.com/mcfade.official/! https://twitter.com/mc_fade! https://www.youtube.com/user/theakma4! https://www.reverbnation.com/mcfade! https://soundcloud.com/mc<fade

The Rhythmic Lounge: Was there an "aha" moment that made you say, "I want to be a musician"? Ron Handy: Coming from a musical household where everyone in the house played an instrument and/or sang definitely had an impact on me, but my “aha” moment came when I was in high school. I had a wonderful band director, Farrell Duncombe, who saw some potential in me and allowed me to go as far as I wanted to go under his guidance. I was the saxophone section leader and, as a teenager, was allowed to arrange musical selections and conduct them in rehearsals. The fire within me was raging once I stood in front of the band for the first time to conduct my very first marching band arrangement (laughs). Honestly, it didn’t turn out that great but Mr. Duncombe encouraged me to keep at it. I was so determined to practice that Mr. Duncombe asked the school principal if I could have a key to the band room. I think he was tired of me “bugging” him (laughs). His request was granted and I was able to practice in the band room at any time. I loved it and my desire to be a good musician (along with being a responsible young man) was of “high priority.”

TRL: You play several instruments! How did that come about? RH: Wow! That’s a good question! As I stated earlier, my family had instruments around the house all the time and it sparked my interest to see how each one operated. Several years ago I worked with John Gibbs, a fantastic musician who owns a music store here in Montgomery. Whenever I was in the store I would watch customers come in to purchase different instruments. To my surprise and amazement, John would demonstrate each instrument that was requested. I don’t mean “tinker” with it (smile). He could “really” play every instrument that he put his hands on…WELL (laughs). It was great for me to see a person do that and he was gracious enough to show me some techniques on different instruments. I was getting into multi-track recording at the time and I had to lay all of the tracks myself. Whew! During those days I didn’t have digital recorders to work with, so everything went to tape. It really helped my musicianship because I had to literally “perform” every part in its entirety. I continue to work like that now because I get a better feel for the music by actually “playing” the parts separately.”

TRL: Why was going to college and getting a degree in music important to you? RH: First of all, both of my parents are retired educators and going to college was always stressed to me, along with my siblings, as a way to position ourselves for a better life. I was so into music in high school that my mind was made up about having music as a major. I really wanted to learn everything that I could about music and possibly teach one day. My saxophone instructor in college, Dr. Laurence Hayes, played a major role in convincing me to soak up all of the knowledge that I could from him. Believe me, he had a wealth of knowledge and I was encouraged to go beyond my musical barriers. The music was so difficult that I would spend 4 to 6 hours a day working on various exercises. I once asked, “Why are you giving me such difficult pieces to learn?” I soon found out that he was planning to retire and I am now in his old office at Alabama State University. Talk about irony (smile). Attending college and getting a degree in music has been extremely beneficial to me. I owe a major debt of gratitude to all of my former teachers for the seeds that they’ve sown in me. May God bless them all!

TRL: You've performed numerous times as a solo act. How challenging is that? RH: That’s a great question! The solo act came about as the result of my maturing as a multi-instrumentalist and producer. I owe a lot of my decision to perform solo to Dr. George Shaw, a Long Beach, California based musician/producer/educator whom I met several years ago. He literally took me under his wing and instructed me on the “ins” and “outs” of studio recording. He’s a guru when it comes to studio gear and he’s an awesome trumpet player. Well, I had a performance coming up for a festival and was working so hard that I didn’t have time to pull a band together for rehearsals. I was about to cancel the engagement when Dr. Shaw says, “Do it yourself!” His statement changed everything for me and I began to perform with or without a band. I spent a great deal of time learning several tunes on a variety of instruments to enhance my “live” performances. Performing live with a band is wonderful and I enjoy that aspect tremendously. The challenge of performing “live” on a “track date” concert is that it requires a lot more energy. Since I’m performing the instrumental parts on the tracks, I always think about my energy level and which instrument(s) I will be playing “live” to keep things fresh and interesting. It’s truly a challenge, but I enjoy it!

TRL: Do you remember the first time you heard yourself on the radio? RH: Yes I do remember the first time I heard a selection that I’d recorded in the studio on the radio (laughs). Back in the day, I was always working on stuff (smile). A good friend of mine and music business mentor, Steve Myers, would always ask me… “Are you working on some material?” I would always say “yes” and he would tell me to get it to him as soon as I was done. After several months of asking the same question and getting the same answer from me, I reluctantly gave Steve a tape to check out over the weekend. I didn’t think it was ready, but he took it and returned it to me on the following Monday. He told me he liked it and I said “thanks, but I’ll finish it soon”. To my surprise, I was driving and listening to our campus radio station (WVAS FM 90.7) when I heard one of my selections on the radio. You see, Steve Myers was the station manager at the time and he’d copied the tape and put it on the air. I guess he was tired of “waiting on me” and decided I was ready (Laughs). As I think about it, I’m glad he did that. I would probably still be “getting ready” today (smile)! Thanks, Steve!

TRL: How did the interesting concept of the "Killing Me Softly" video on YouTube come about? RH: The “Killing Me Softly” track and video came about very quickly. The vocalist that I work with, Christina Mims, has always loved that song and wanted to perform it. I laid the instrumental tracks for her to rehearse with. She liked it and went on the computer to make sure she had all of the lyrics correct. We were not really intending to “record” the song at that time. It was really just a “fun” thing. She looked over the lyrics for a few minutes and said…”Hey, I want to lay some vocal tracks over what you’ve done.” She proceeded to lay the lead and the harmony tracks in one take each… top to bottom. Wow! As we were listening back to the performance Darrick Long (an ASU student) walked into my office and said… “I really like that and I have an idea.” Darrick takes his iPhone out of his pocket and says…”let’s make a video”! The footage on the iPhone was shot right then. As we listened to the lyrics of this great Charles Fox – Norman Gimbel composition, Darrick (along with his twin brother Eric) had a concept to convey a unique message through the video. The world recently commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March and State Senator Quinton Ross played the video for visiting dignitaries during their visit to Montgomery. The video was met with a rousing ovation of approval and we are all very proud to have been a part of it. We’ve received many positive emails and texts from around the world from those who have viewed the video on YouTube! Christina (a gifted vocalist) and Darrick (who also designed my website) are truly talented individuals and I love working with them. Thank you, TRL!

Album Reviews ReeqAhmad- RoughNeckSpanky 2 by Patrick Ross

Rating: ★

★★

The artist known as ReeqAhmad brings to the spotlight this 6-song mixtape EP that features some really good backing tracks for the most part. But there is really only one stand out track that shows the potential to create some traction here. Track 6 features a nice urban R&B flavored backdrop and features an unknown female vocal singing a catchy chorus. But it is still missing that breakthrough lyrical delivery that seems to never appear from the shadows. The artist seems to be covering already well-worn territory that is the norm of the genre. At best there is definitely a flow that ebbs and builds through out the compilation, but never quite reaches that over the top moment. ReeqAhmad is simply not reaching far enough inside to bring forth that truly raw emotional performance that would show his true talent and diversity, which is what is really lacking in his mostly lackluster performances. One keeps waiting to here him truly bare his soul forth on the tracks that obviously sparkle with originality and flavor, but his monotone performance lack the vitality and energy the production is craving to attain. ReeqAhmad means the “brightest star worthy of praise.” But I find that he is not living up to the title by any means, as he sounds like so many other back in the day rappers and MC's who have already blazed the trails he is only retreading through at best.
